That means the game isn't finished. So I choose to listen to the negative beta leaks. At least they aren't sugar coating anything. Most of them that I read are pretty constructive too.
Put it this way, after following DnL, what happened to SWG, Brad selling out to SOE with EQ, I'm not getting excited about anything anymore.
People blame SOE for this SWG crap.  you guys need to take a step back and realize who actually owns SWG.  Its Lucas Arts.  If they dont want a change it wouldnt of happen.  SOE did nothing on there own,  and infact many times was forced to do what Lucas Arts wanted.    So can everyone stop blaming SOE for the SWG bullshit.       In regards to Brad, if you made a game and someone offered you millions for it and it basically made you set for life would you accept it and move on ?   I would,  you have to do whats best for your family and he did that.     If he didnt then he woudlnt of developed vanguard in the first place.

To people who are reading the negative reviews,  think of this.   Half the people saying shit havent played it and are going off other peoples opinions not theres.     Try the game if you like it play it,  if not then hey its not for you.  But why bash a game because it wasnt something you liked ?   Its not like any of use have invested millions in money and time into the game.

Explain MxO and EQ then. Maybe even EQ2 (at least in the begining). What's your excuse for those games turning into crap? And I'm sure Variant didn't sell out to SOE because thier families depended on it. It's not exactly like they make $6.15 an hour. Yeah, I would sell it but I wouldn't try to make another game and tell everyone that I wouldn't do it again.

THe way i see it is, im going to get into the open BETA, play it and make my decision. If i like it i will buy it if i dont i won't.  Who cares what people say about it coz i have had many a person critisize the games i play, only to find that I actually loved it.  As far as bad coments from people who have supposedly Beta tested...well think of it this way do you think that someone who is Beta testing and enjoying the game is gonna risk their place in beta, by breaking the NDA to defend the game.  If someone doesnt like the game they are not gonna care if they breal the NDA and get kicked out. Hence the reason we hear more bad beta opinions than good.

Get in open beta and make your own opinions.

It's awfully easy to get around that. Create a throwaway email account, register at some forums and post away. Who's gonna connect you to your beta account? Or, email your comments to your buddy that's not in the game and have him post them.

I've heard that argument a lot, but I'm not really sure that's the case.

Once the NDA is lifted this will be settled. If that argument is correct, then suddenly we'll see tons of posts saying what an awesome game Vanguard is from all those players that were scared to break the NDA, but wanted to post how much they love the game.

Sorry if am not a Vanboi. Sorry if I don't worship turds like you do because it was made by the developer of EQ1.  Hell you'll find out though in the open beta. Enjoy it because people like you deserve a turd. As long as developers have blind, unthinking, loyal, and rabid zealots following them around they'll never learn.

I think my opinion of the MMO community here has changed for the worse since Vanguard posts began to turn sour, but I also wouldn't want to visit a Vanguard fansite where everyone is pro-Vanguard all the time.  I like to read objective statements about games, but the only place I can get some of that is at the official forum for the game, and even then trolls and fanbois creep in with their biased posts.  Everyone is entitled, of course, but honesty goes a long way, and people can tell when a post is written earnestly and when its just meant to stir the crap around.

I find this war between EQ2 and Wow hillarious.  They are both so dang close to the same game it's absurd.  Wow = cartoon graphics, huge player base, and horrible community.  EQ2 = better graphics, significantly fewer players, average community.  I've played both and forgot which one I was playing they are so close to each other now.  I only ended up staying with EQ2 b/c I made better friends there.

Vanguard so far is a completely different game.  But the potential is incredible.  Player made boats, player composed songs, and classes that break away from the old and boring molds we have had to deal with for years.  Vanguard won't appeal to everybody b/c I guarantee it will be more of a grind.  In eq2 and wow you'll be able to get to the end game sooner.  Awsome!  I'd rather play with mature and serious people.  If the annoying kids from eq2 and wow don't come over to Vanguard I'll be very happy.

Interesting point there. I wonder if the people who broke the NDA on Dark and Light and said it was a total disaster of a MMO received the same treatment. I am not saying Vanguard is anything like DNL. In fact nothing can come close to being the god awful game known as DNL still is unless some devs really went out of their way to be lying scumbags. Still though I find it hilarious that people become upset when a group of people who have played the game already are saying that this game is not ready for the PR OPEN BETA 5 or release and that this game has a ton of bugs that need fixing ASAP. It's as if you were somehow attacking their religion or childhood hero when you say that the game needs a ton of work before it releases. As I said in a previous post...Developers will never learn if all they have are mindless zealots who agree with them at every step and turn.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

#1  People talking like they've played the game.  When you say  "This game sucks" you're implying that you play the game.  How else would you know it sucks if you're not currently in the beta test?

#2  People complaining about SoE.  I know the quote by Brad McQuaid saying that SoE has no control over the game's development has been posted here, probably multiple times.  Yet, for no apparent reason, you still complain.  They're in charge of publishing.  Saying that SoE is destroying the game is like saying the 7th Harry Potter book will be horrible because it's being published and distributed by a certain company.

#3  People just being negative for the hell of it.  They've seen some screens, they've read the limited information about Vanguard, and they've managed to convince themselves that they know this game will bomb.  So, of course, first thing they do is run to this forum to post about their recent discovery.

I'm sorry to say that I generally feel worse about the overall MMO community after reading this forum.  I mean, some of you are grown adults sitting behind your computers and flaming a game that you haven't played.
Great post..perhaps the people moaning should try and get into the beta i have and it looks very promising IMO a refreshing change from the WoW clones that are coming our way

i agree 100% with who ever started this thread, all the hype posts are, omg im in beta and its choppy as hell, well thats because its uncompacted coding right now, i cant say that on release it wont be a problem, but from other betas that iv tested they have all nearly been very choppy and by release its almost never a problem.  This isnt the sigil employees 1st big game, they know what they are doing.

and id also like to add that anyone who says warhammer online is going to be a wow clone is a ignorant POS

Ive beta tested and this game ROCKS!  Anyone who says the game isnt good has no idea what they are talking about

    I dont understand this either....

Again, people just being raving dumb-asses...its rediculous...if they havent played it, they dont need to comment about it

#1: I'm not going to touch that with a a 30 foot Twinkstick. However, it is a society trend I've seen begin to develope during the mid-late 90's.

#2: A lot of people resent SoE  for the way they've handled their MMOs. Everquest and Star Wars: Galaxies especially, had very loyal followings only to have those games endure nothing short of butchering. Long story short, SoE broadened their games for higher profits and in turn alienated their - as Brad would say - Core fans.

    #3: That's just as bad as #1. Not going there. ^^;

As for what I know(or think I know) about the game in no particular order...

    -Standard fantasy theme(magic, dragons, yadda)

    -Not really intended for "casuals".

-HUGE GAME WORLD you actually have/get to travel around; as well as various means of transport(land mounts, ships, flying mounts - all player owned)

-Races range from humans to.. err.. 'wolf-people'

    -GROUP oriented and challenging.

-a.. dare I say.. 'phased' combat system with all sort of interdependancies and quirks

-Painful system requirements; High to Top end machines only (not to mention well over a dozen gigabytes for the install)

-Crafting is just as important as adventuring

-Class system is 'pick and stick'

    - Hold not your expectations.
