Server overcrowding

WotannWotann Member Posts: 294

image I saw this during Korean beta and I see it now that the US beta has gone open. Way too few servers. Korea had 16 servers and they were so full you could not even log on at times. US has only 3 and that is way too few. They neec at least 10-12 servers now to accomodate the testers.

I won't be playing under these crazy conditions. No game is worth it.

I think what we're seeing here is NC trying to be conservative.  What happens if they set up 10-12 servers and then when the game goes P2P and only 4-5 servers are needed?  I think they realize this game may not be as big a hit over here as in Korea.(see Lineage1)

From what I've experienced I think not many here will like it, compared to over in korea and just want to get a free game for a month or whatever.

Even FFXI was not as big a hit as it could have been.(bad server policies/decisions)

The only thing they're doing now is pissing off the entire player community and in the end they're losing lots of customers.

    Well done, NCSoft :D

    remember....its still "beta"

    It hasn't officially Started yet

I read your rating before, you know you can edit your rating after posting. But seriousally, you shouldn't put down the game and give it a horrible in each catergory just because they lacked servers for BETA. It's BETA #1, #2 it's just a lack of servers which is NOT a game feature it's simply a temporary problem which will be fixed soon hopefully.

If the graphics look good, don't give it a 0 or 1 because of connection issues.

Unreleased games HAVE NO "to each rating".  Hype obviously is only intended to show a player's level of enthusiam to play the game.  And my enthusiasm has fallen lower than a snake's balls.

I don't take shit-poor business decisions lightly, and that's exactly what these guys did. There is no "rebound" from this, shitty shitty shit image

Sorry then, I flamed you wrongly on my part. I looked over the fact that this game was unreleased. You have the 100% right to show your enthusiam at what level you want. Once again, I'm sorry.

They are coming out with another server to handle the exceptionally large number of beta testers that were not previously estimated into their figures. Talk about stress testing!

Well that's awefully big of you Sir.  I see no need to apologize so profusely, but I want you to know I appreciate it.

And I know they could add another server, and yes they will but it also shows they had a strong bias, were slow to act, and may lack proper planning in the future giving foot hold to further miscarriages.

For example, the main Login server can't even keep up with the numbers of players trying to get on during the start of the Beta.  Just one more realm server will obviously not change the situation.  I was able to login in a few miuntes ago, but I think it's clear that something was seriously failing and will continue to fail again...barring some simple connectivity bug

You aren't even supposed to be "playing" the game. It's a beta test, and with beta testing comes problems.

No need to tell me that. You should tell the moronic yanks that they need to put up enough servers to support the testers from the beginning. They're getting horrible publicity this way and the result will be loss of thousands, maybe tens of thousand of customers and that meane loss of money, something even stupid yanks should understand.

    I rest my case.

I'm really amazed at how upset you people are at the lack of servers. Had they known that so many people would be joining the beta test they would have had more servers. Lineage 1 wasn't very popular in North America so they thought that Lineage 2 wouldn't be this much better. They are working on another server to releave the stress, but ordering parts, building the server and installing the software takes time. NC soft didn't knowingly screw anyone over. If you people are so upset about such a small mistake maybe you should live in a bubble and make your own little "perfect" world. Everyone makes mistakes. Don't try to pretend your perfect. Its just a beta test, all the content isn't even added yet and there will be more servers when the game goes live. Again, don't judge the game too harshly based on the beta test, there are supposed to be problems in it. Thats why the game isn't on the shelves yet. You set your expectations way to high and your always going to be upset.

Of course they know how many testers there are. - They know how many accounts have been opened, but still they're so dimwitted that they cannot make out the need in servers. Yanks need tutoring in math.

We're not all Yanks, there are also Rebels and Rednecks.... Plus don't forget most of the world is left in the dust compared to our great wealth and output in technology just like Japan.

You can't blame them, they didn't know they would have a lot of people since Lineage 1 was a failure in the USA in subscription terms.

They don't need to learn how to do math. Think about it, they set the system up so anyone who signed up for open beta got in. This kept people happy cuz now atleast they have a chance to play the game. Now they have a problem of thousands upon thousands of people signing up for open beta at the last minute. Because of the auto response that lets everyone who signs up get into the game, they had a huge flood of players. Thousands more people signed up for open beta than closed beta, how were they supposed to know? Yeah, they made a mistake, but you should be able to understand why. They could never have known this many people were going to sign up.

I also forgot to mention the fact that this is only TESTING. How the heck are they going to know what their servers can handle unless they push them to the max? Of course they can always have someone crunch the numbers, but thats only theory so they won't know what will REALLY happen.

In hindsight, they were too conservative in their estimate about how popular the open beta testing was going to be.  Hopefully they will sort it out soon.

Just a though but isn't Ncsoft in fullblown City of Heroes beta testing also? Maybe the would have more servers available if they weren't testing 2 games simultaneously. Or I could be just dead wrong, wich I probably am, since ncsoft if just the publisher, and Cirptic tudios are probably managing their own servers.
