Open Beta may might not be Jan. 4

After weeks of rampant speculation that Jan. 4 was the date that open beta would begin and with no denials of this coming from Sigil, this post appeared on the Vanguard forums this evening (Jan. 3).

For those having trouble getting to the forums (they seem to be down at the moment), here is the relevant quote:





 "Hey all, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think some wires may have gotten crossed somewhere. As per my post on the official forums, we have not confirmed any date for Beta 5 yet, publicly, privately, or anywhere.



"Early" January is all we can say for sure. Obviously, that means soon, but we don't have an exact date yet.

    Clearly, mercenaries hired by WoW fans have taken Glip hostage, and forced him to make that post. They must start tommorow. Think of all the fans that will die if open beta doesn't start tommorow!



    Dare I say, the sun may not rise tommorow if open beta doesn't start?!

    Alot of people are looking forward to the beta starting tomorrow. The recent oddness with the official site and forums, the odd updating process, and the dropping of the NDA all point toward the game starting soon. Many people have heard rumors of it tomorrow. If it doesnt, we wont die. I just hope its before the weekend. Saturday would be a good day for it to start. Everyone'll be off work or school.



    PS: Cold, if you're gonna be such a pain in the rectal regions about people's hoping for the game, just go spam that in your respective game forum. We like the game, we want to play the game. You dont have to come in and act like you're better than anyone because you dont share a person's thoughts on the game.

    I've no idea what you're talking about.  I haven't seen any announcment that the NDA would be dropped before beta 5, the start date for which has not been confirmed.  The recent "oddness" you're refering to on the official site and forums is obviously the flood of people excited about open beta possibly starting tomorrow.  I don't know what you mean by odd updating process...unless you mean closed beta being updated?



    All in all I think that quote means that we won't be seeing beta 5 tomorrow, but only time will tell.

    All in all I think that quote means that we won't be seeing beta 5 tomorrow, but only time will tell. According to the official forums, the CB servers went down, and the client began a 15 hour update that then spiked to 20 hours. I should have been more descriptive but children are attacking me. But yeah, you're more than likely right about the forum/site crash.

    If Beta P.5 is tomorrow, it will surprise me. It'd be nice but I'm not going to go burn down someone's house if it doesn't. It'll start within the week more than likely, just from the "Early January" thing, but as you said, only time will tell. Patience is the greatest virtue my friends. Take a deep breath and play Oblivion in the meantime.

    Recent forum wonkiness seems to go hand in hand with the CB server crashes. When the servers are up, forums seem to work mostly fine. Servers go down, forums go boom from the extra people.

    Probably doesn't help what with all the extra people asking about the preorder/fileplanet open beta thing.

    Just install Oblivion again OR buy new HD :P 60GB is kind of not enough nowdays since many games are over 4GB and some over 8GB

    Because most games focus on 'graffix'... Cuz 'graffix' are pretty and make people drool. That drool is then used to fuel the hellfires of SoEs moneyburning machine!
