It is paybycash or credit card. If you have a debit card with a CC logo on it then it works. There are good reasons for not having play cards. First, most people that would play an online game are middle class. Such people at the very least will have a bank account and almost every bank has debit cards with CC logos.
Second, if you do gamecards then the company, at beast, breaks even. The retailer takes 50% of the sale price when it comes to items like these. This means $15 a month then $7.50 goes to the retailer. This does not include any of the boxing or distribution. So, perhaps $5 goes to the game. All gamecards do is slightly increase your subscriber base at no profit (this also allows more children to play).
So by denying gamecards I think DAOC has managed to keep a more mature audience compared to other games, or it could be a coincidence.
