I seriously recommend this game to anyone who considers themselves an MMORPG lover.
The Classes are unique, diverse, and useful.
The Combat system is involved, promotes group co-operation without smothering you with it.
The weakness system is incredibly fun. You may start a fight in the same manner, but if you are paying attention to the weaknesses that your group members add to your opponant, you almost never end up cycling through the same attacks in a button-mashing fest.
Finishers that become available on crits keep you on your toes as you can't be sure when they'll be useable.
Rescues, Counters, and Counterspells are incredibly fun.
Hardly any Bound items, unless you choose to do so, which keeps the economy moving.
Corpse runs are optional if you don't mind the extra XP penalty
The classes are flavored well.
Really, my main problem with the game right now is that there are so many people logging in from Beta 4 that the servers are crashing alot (expected for stress tests) and it ruins my playtime =/
Fix the bugs and polish up and I'll be more than happy.
There is content missing and there will be some missing content but who hasn't released an incomplete game.
erm.... Blizzard .......but is an MMO ever complete?
tell that to the honor system that was promised...but missing for 6 months or so
or the classes that were changed on a monthly basis.
and countless other things i dont feel like going into
not trying to fight with ya, but I'll also add:
and the weather system that was originally promised at the day of launch but held off until about 2 or 3 months ago.
Yeah, and technically there were a few dungones (Maraudon and Dire Maul come to mind) in which the assest were mostly included on the release disk but weren't finished until after launch. /shrug
I guess you can get away with alot when your gnomes and minotaurs are cute. =P
Hmm, the Infineum and other armor from quests have had their stats tweaked down this week. Also, to my understanding it takes a HUGE time commitment to get some of those pieces. There are people (I'm not saying you're one of them) that exploited bugs in the mobs and quests for that armor and were able to get full sets in much less time and effort than was intended. Also, before necros and other class tweaks, groups were able to mow through the mobs needed in little time. Much have that has changed, especially this week.
I did it the old fashion way, heavy grinding, but yes the armor has been tweaked some, however its still some of the best armor and gear in the game, and its not hard to come by, since everyone camps it and its easy to get a group. It took me maybe a week of grindining there to get almost a full suit
I am so glad the NDA is lifted. It was painful to hear those nay-sayers breaking the NDA and bashing the game without the pople enjoying the game being able to defend it.
Seriuosly this game is awesome...IMO the best MMO to come out years and I have played them all.....I think the general consenus of what the game most closely represents is a combination of EQ, SWG and WoW all rolled up in the one with the best parts of each.
Sure there are bugs.....but the majority of the bugs remaining a very minor ones like some quests not working and such....these can be fixed realy fast. In the past couple of weeks the game has begun to be optimizied and it it running twice as good as before. They early in the optimizing process and will continue. The potential for this game is amazing....the grouping is old school grouping that has been missing from the MMO genre.;....once again that fear and excitement is back into grouping.
I really hoping everyone will give VG a try for themselves....I am sure you will love it as much as I do. Remember its not EQ, its not SWG and its not WoW....its VG with the flavours that we love from previous games.
after NDA was lifted my guild mates has been telling me all about the game, and I admit those last days before NDA lift I´ve been trying to convince myself not to overhype the game, now I realize I was wrong the game rocks, they have left me impressed with the game (I´m not a good english speaker but I´m sure you´ll understand what I meant)
I was in Beta 1 or 2, don't recall, but never played Beta 3 or later, just could not bring myself to log in more than a few minutes at a time. The game felt too bland, too much like an empty old EQ server. (I rarely saw over 100 players logged on, that early in beta).
The game world itself seemed indistinct, meaning any one part of a continent seemed about as unique as any other. There was no way to identify any one plot of the world as being unique from another, aside from towns and cities.
Some of you recall in old EQ how Everfrost was different than the Qeynos Hills, well, imagine a world in which everyplace seemed like the Frontier Mountains; at least on the continent I was on. One end of the continent was about the same as the other end. The early beta game was sort of like DAOC without distinct areas; everthing was the same bland wooded mountain terrain with appropriate mobs. Those were my concerns.
The consistent criticisms this game has received from the NDA breakers on this board were true...given the game's state a year ago. But thena year has passed, and from what I've read many, many, many good changes have been implemented.
I personally will buy this game and give it a try. There is too much of a solid framework set that can be turned into something promising over time. I'm sure Vanguard will be a decent game, and over time maybe a great game.
I will say for anyone who care.s That this game has come along nicely. As its still beta and the optimizations aren't done yet at times there is a bit of lag. My current system for the most part runs it steady save that lag that nails me in transition areas. The death penalty does sting. They came up with an altered way of using exp loss, debt, corpse runs and an alter. The world is frickin huge and well done art wise. The trees move with the wind and the sky is the best I have seen in any MMO. interesting you vanboi actually have me interested in playing this game now. I'll make sure I get a key tomorrow (edit- I've been an FP subscriber ever since BF2142 beta went live)
