MMOWG (massively multiplayer online wargames)

Is there any grognards out there or any other War minded gamers who thinks there should be more Online war games....What do you think is a viable genre to start in....I personally believe a Military History of The World and make it fully playable from anyside is a good choice...it can be played from squad or commander level...What would you consider the ultimate online wargame?

    World War II Online is very playable and realistic... Give it a try...

    Playing that right now. It's a great game. Very very fun. Kinda like a MMO Version of Starcraft. There is always a battle and all the factions are always trying to take over eachother's land. I'm about bored w/ the planet I'm on and going to head to another one soon so I can advance my troops over lvl 25.

    Online wargames?

    The best I have played so far is definately DarkSpace.

    Are you sure that is free?

    I Downloaded it and went to the Account section in the page and it says that is 9.95$ for an Acc.

    I went and checked the faq section. It looks like the game is free (could be only to start out), but you are restricted from some aspects of the game.

    I heard that Shattered Galaxy is now free, is that really true?

    Shattered Galaxy has always offered a free trial period for new players to try out the game. In the past, the trial period was limited by time and level. The new Shattered Galaxy has radically modified the time and level limitations from the trial. Players can now play Shattered Galaxy for free, with some limitations (Please continue reading this FAQ for full details).

    Is this new free play time a temporary promotion?

    No, the free play time is a permanent update to the Shattered Galaxy business model.

    If I can play Shattered Galaxy for free, why would I want to pay for an account?

    Although the time and level limit restrictions have been radically modified from the trial, other restrictions still apply to the non-paying heroes. By paying for an account, your commander can play Shattered Galaxy to its full potential without any worries of restrictions or limitations.

    Would this be something similar to how CIV3 tried to do a multiplayer?  In that case, its kind of rough... any free ones out there?

    Theres only one real Online Wargame: World War II Online.
    Play as a simple grunt, fly a plane, drive a tank or truck, crew a ship or climb up the ladder in the High Commands, post missions for others to take, take responsability to organise brigades, operations, bomber formations, work out attack plans and finally make Your way up to the Commander- in-Chief of one of the Armies. All player-based positions!

    Play it since its release... am hooked ever since...
