I am really hoping for this to be true, but I would not bet any money on it just yet all I know is that there Austin branch has been searching for some people with MMO experience. But I deeply think that Bioware-Pandemic could pull it of.

Lets hope so. I for one would love a descent SWG2. Bioware is of course an option with their xp in making a sw/rp game. But they haven't got the xp in making an MMO.

    Oh well, neither did Blizzard...

I will just be happy if they made pre-cu servers. A girl can hope right?

I think the MMORPG they announced a while back might be 'Dragon Age' - a title they have been working on for about 3 years now. I don't know much about game development, but isn't 3+ years a lot of time to invest in a singleplayer game(?)

Update: I found out that Dragon Empires is NOT going to be a MMORPG, but is meant as a continuation of Baldur's Gate (in fact there'll be characters from BG in Dragon Age). So I guess there's still hope :-)

It is a single player game according to forums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html.

+3 years is much if the development company is not doing anything else but for bioware which has different games in development they probably have some normal time frame for some of the games and +time for a pet project like dragon age. I think that most projects in any company are scheduled for 18-24 months of development time, but maybe that has begun to change i can't say

Also when having more games in the works pipelining is common. When one game is in design another is in pre-alpha, another is in beta etc.. It all depends on the projects and the money involved

I don't know obviously but what I do know, is that if there is ONE company that has the midas touch, it's Bioware! They are in a league all of their own!

BTW, the mmorpg they are developing is definitely not 'dragon age', though, it may be based on dragon age!

Been doing some background studies while you posted your reply (see updated post).

As you said, 3 years isn't too bad when the company has several other projects in development.

Take a look at this video for Mass Effect, the Sci-Fi rpg they are developing for the x-box 360.

Why? Why! Why! These posts have been done and redone with the same answer over and over again. SWG2 has been already done in my eyes, it was called the NGE. I don't see the orginal anywhere anymore, do you!?! You should be asking if SWG3 is going to happen, which is an astonding NO! SOE has the liscense, Lucas Arts will probably pull the liscense or wait till it dies and just go back to the single player universe. If they learned anything from this catistrophic experience, it would be to never work with SOE on a mass project.

This downfall of the game wasn't a landslide that killed 3-5 people, it was a tremor that sank a whole continent.

The scars that SOE left on the playerbase would never allow anything like this to happen, no profit would come from it and therefore it won't be made.

Stop kidding yourselves, if you like to get FedInTheA, well then maybe a sexual preference change is in order.

It is this exact short sighted reasoning that baffles me about the MMORPG community.

There is ample evidence that LEC was 100% in bed on all decisions regarding SWG.  While I agree that SOE deserves all the grief we all give them over SWG it never ceases to amaze me that you folks refuse to hold LEC accountable for THEIR role in screwing the game up.  The NGE, while developed by SOE, was requested by LEC.  LEC calls the shots.  SOE does the implementation.  While SOE does have input into the direction of the game the FINAL say in ALL updates to SWG is in the hands of the PRODUCER:  Lucasarts.  In fact QUALITY ASSURANCE is also in the hands of LucasArts

If there's one thing people need to learn it's the same lesson BIOWARE tried to tell you people when THEY REFUSED to do a sequel to KOTOR.  (KOTOR2 was done by a group of programmers who had left bioware and created their own company).

The lesson is simple:  Lucas Entertainment does NOT allow enough creative freedom to developers of titles for them.  For that reason I don't think BioWare will be getting back into bed with LEC.  They've already done it once and refused to make a sequel to one of the best Star Wars games ever released.  Why?  Because they clearly don't feel that LEC is a company that is a good business partner.

Not saying LEC is 100% to blame for SWG, not at all.  But they do share 50% of the blame and I am continually baffled by you folks who INSIST that it is all SOE's fault.  Yes, SOE is at fault, certainly blame them for horrible patches, terrible content updates and poor quality to updates.  But the overall DIRECTION of SWG was dictated by LucasArts (The producer).

Neither Biowear or SOE are likely to ever work with Lucas Arts again. After having been involved with LU both have sworn off new projects they don’t own outright. I don't think VU games would either. If SWG2 is ever made I'm guessing it would be Turbine, since they seem to like licensed properties.

Actually it was more Black Isle(Interplay) refugees which is still a pretty good group and one that had worked closely with Biowear in the past.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I don't care who the f*** makes it, if it does not get beyond puerile LucasArts gameplay notions, it's not worth it. Start Wars was a morality myth, and I see nothing in any of the game concepts favored by George Almighty's folks that speak to that. The IP is full of notions that would apply themselves to interesting ethical game consequences, but what we get fed from LA is "kill, loot, repeat".

SWG2 is already out and available... its called the NGE :P

Personally I hope bioware goes off in a different direction from Star Wars.  Granted KoTOR was a great game but I am sorta tired of Star Wars games entirely and unless something has happened that hasnt been made public the star wars license in the mmo space belongs to SOE, and they just cant pull it off.

I got like .. uh 4 expansions (not sure I just installed the Wookie one for the free item) . Anyhow got the free month , played for about week , it was like WoW , and I saw 90% of the people (no matter which server I was on) where Jedi or Bounty Hunters. Combat was better than when it was first release , but its WoW from the ground up.

Personally if anyone can save Star Wars MMORPG , it would be Cyptric Studios , Statesman is a god when it comes to game design. Granted City of Heroes and City of Vilians for most people is playable in 6 to 8 month strecthes , the game always inproves and you return after a break.

Really saddens me to see so many Jedi in the Era when Yoda and Ben were in hiding , I think I couldnt 100 Jedi in the desert zone were fighting in. O.O I guess Darth Vader just getting old and cant sense these guys ...
