Post-apoc books

elateelate Member UncommonPosts: 72

In my opinion the greatest living author has quite recently written a post-apoc book.

The Road, by Cormac McCarthy.

A father and son make the journey south from north-east USA in a world of very few survivors, rampant cannabalism, slavery, and other unchecked inhumanities. Reality is so frightening that they try to avoid absolutely everyone but they have no choice except to scavenge for food in gutted towns.

An extremely tense book. I truly believe the first page is the worst in the book, so if you get past it you won't stop.

Just something somewhat related to FE to pass the time. I'm always open to book recommendations so post them if you've got them!

Try "Brother in the Land". I think it's by Robert Swindles. Not really a novel, but a good read nonetheless. Set in England, in a not-too-distant future.

I love the outlanders series. Also there is a series by  S. M. Stirling "Dies the Fire" that is really great.

    "The Stand" by Stephen King.

If you like Terry Brooks, his most recent release is a venture into the post-apocalyptic.

    Armageddon's Children.

It's quite good and if you've read the Shannara books or the Word and the Void trilogy this is a total must-read.

Thanks for all the books mentioned and this one in particular. I say that because it's in pristine condition on my bookshelf and has been sitting there for 2 months. I'll definitely start on that next.

I've got to recommend The Road by Cormac McCarthy again. Just finished it again.

Much of Stephen King's major series "The Dark Tower" is set in a world that has "moved on" and has a post-apocalypse feel. They also visit the world in the Stand at least once.
