Just Purchased SWG

XylekXylek Member Posts: 23

Hi.

I've taken the dive & purchased SWG & have a couple of questions.

What server do i choose? I'm from the UK. I dont want every1 being in bed when i'm online.

The character i create 1st will be the 1 i stick with. Any suggestions as to how i develop him?

Any guilds out there willing to help i would be happy to join.

54 mins for the patch download... wow

cheers

Don't worry about choosing what server to be on.  There's always people playing 24/7 on the servers.

As for character development, think of something you always wanted to be in Star Wars.  You can be that.  One character can be anything.  That's the awesome thing about Star Wars Galaxies: The sky is the limit for character development.  I have two characters: Autees Neta, Corbantis, who is a bounty hunter, and Zavari, twi-lek doctor on Flurry.

    Have fun dude.

    Hi friend,

SWG is not a complicated game considering your character. You can choose any race you want and you ca still become very powerful in any class. It's a good feature of this game. My dream combination was Zabrak Bounty HUnter/Imperial supporter and i made it. There are no restrictions what so ever and special bonuses of each race can be easily overcome with your special abilities and some gear you purchase. I do not recommend you to choose Artisan though cause it a highly roleplaying character and the beginning is quite "boring" (--my own opinion--).

Another advice is to find PA as soon as you can. SWG community is highly friendly to everyone and those guys will always help you. I am still not a member of PA but my desire was to be "something special", the loneliner, so i made it, but even the way i chose wasn't so complicated (i expected tougher game BTW), so it shows you how world of SWG is free to anything you want to do. But back to the game itself. First go to highly populated place (Naboo) and make friends among players. Ask for the advice if you need some, maybe ask for some weapons (but honestly i don't recommend this, you can always buy some from the bazaar terminal, getting credits is quite easy and after fulfilling of few missions you will be able to buy).

Run to the mission terminal and get some delivery mission, the best way is to choose 2 to the farest destination possible (the same direction). It's a good way how to explore the world and to get some credits. Don't rush, try to be more roleplayer cause SWg gives you this rare possibility in its proper grace.

After you become a bit better in your profession, find a group and explore the world a bit deeper than you did before. It is also a good way how to find more friends and get some useful advises from the more experienced players. Once you are more familiar with the game and world themselves you can start thinking about joining one of the Civil War sides but it is already up to you. I hope this helped a bit and good luck in the best MMO world i ever seen.

About server - i'm also from Europe and i play on the American server Bria. Connection with broadband is great (I've never had any troubles) and i prefer the US MMO's communities, i think they are more grown up than here in Europe, but it is also up to you. See you in the game my friend

thx for the advice J much apreciated :)

To say i'm confused atm is an understatment atm. but i am having fun finding out.

I'm a novice brawler atm & think i am aiming for master brawler.

I have joined an imperial guild who are giving me lots of money & kit which is gr8.

The graphics are A1 & i am at last getting used to the movment system.

1 question can a character be moved from 1 server to another?

    Thx again

Hiya, I'm from the UK and play on eclipse. This was the unofficial euro server at the time of release. There doesnt seem to be many brits on the euro servers...quite a few stayed on eclipse. There are quite a few euro/brit guilds left check out rbeu and goth. Swg is quite easy to level in and not dependant on a guild to survive. Once the cash comes in your pretty self sufficient. I've made master bh with very little help at all from anyone....just shows how boring this game is :)

    Sorry to hear it.
I think you'll find out (as most of us have) that this game is a griefer's dream but a Star Wars fan's worst nightmare.
Well maybe you can sell it later on...

Sorry to say it but YOU ARE NOT RIGHT!!!

I am a Star Wars fan, loving movies and books as well. And i love SWG. The feeling you got many is popular and many players give up the game after the first month saying "it just got boring". I gave up after few days of playing!!! But one experienced player here on www.mmorpg.com showed me few reasons why to give it a chance. And i did. I'm very satisfied with SWG and i'm loving it more and more. If you gave up playing after few days or a month, give it a chance. If you just don't like the game, fair enough, play something else. But don't involve SW community as a whole, cause many many SW fans play and love the game. And it will become even better with SPACE expansion.

I not only played for more than two months (to my everlasting shame) but betatested it too. I should have seen the signs during testing, they were all there. But sadly my inner fanboi kept saying "it will be great, it will be fun". I've since killed him.
As for the space expansion, I will do nothing to cure the underlying problem of the game. It's like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound and saying "there, all better now"...

     1. If you are NOT here to answer any of the questions posted by the guy who started this thread, then why are you here?

     2. If you have not played SWG within the past 2 months, you are in no position whatsoever to comment about anything about SWG. Or about SWG in its current state. SWG is a MMORPG. By definition a MMORPG is continously changing, continously getting updated. image image

     3. All of your information from Beta, and during the first 2 months of release are 100% meaningless and moot at this point. image image

    To address your points;
1- to try and save the guy some money and maybe some dissapointment. I only wish someone had done the same for me.

2- I've heard this from fanbois before. However, no matter how you look at it, dress it up, paint it gold, a pile of dogcrap is just that.

3- Right because noone who has an informed opinion could be right. Especially when it contradicts the SWG fanbois credo "it's great, it's great, it's great" Keep repeating that like a mantra, maybe one day it will be true...

4-I'm not the one crying anymore, I quit SWG. And now I'm happy! Luckily I got into City of Heroes beta and will be playing long after launch. It is amazing what happens when game designers listen to thier customers and don't just treat them like ATM's...

    Hey!

Maybe that´s the point. SWG isn´t really the gameto get another "uber-char". You need the community, you need friends and you need time and a work to get a place in the enviroment. And at all, i won´t say Sony won´t "hear" the players.

Today SWG is out, it has way less bugs than other games i know, it´s well balanced and nice playable. You can´t expect to write a wish down today and tomorrow it´s in the game.

No offense, but i think CoH is really a better game for you. ;-)

sigh.. Ignore Xplororor, i reckon he works for Sony, as he's the only person who raves about the game at every opportunity on every forum. Either that or he's the most deluded person i've ever seen, and probably has no experience of other mmorpgs.

I'm still playing SWG after 5 months, and it really hasn't got any better content-wise. The imperial crackdown added a little to the RP flavour, but not enough. Skills are still a grind, and a mate of mine has just quit after he had Master BH, then Master TKA and Master Squad Leader following his holocron towards Jedi-Hood only to be told he now needs Image Designer (or whatever it's called). What a great game...

Yes i know they are sorting out Jedi, but it's too late. Most people are only playing it until the rush of games in the summer, then they'll switch.

heh......maybe explor is just getting a kick out of reading all our posts about how bad swg is and is just defending it for a laugh image

I'm from the UK and have played it since september. I only play it as it is a game i can just play casually. It has nothing compared to my last great love on daoc....great pve,pvp and most of all the community rocked. Lineage 2 is just around the corner so i may try that

But it will have to be good to erase the bitter taste swg left in my mouth.

Well, you know what? I've been playing since the beginning and I'm still loving the game.

Every update brings new stuff and every day brings new things to do. I'm usually playing 9 hrs a day, and have been doing so since the game came out (played 100 hrs in my first week image )

Don't know why, but I just love the game.

Maybe if you don't look to get an Uber character, you find some friends in game, and you have a little fun you'll acctually find that the game it good.

    Just a though

Its usually around that much, but I'm doing other stuff while i'm on. I talk on the phone and in IMs to friends, I post on message boards (like this one), I do homework, I help out around the house, and a bunch of other stuff.

Of course, I still spend too much time in game. I've made alot of friends and am still having alot of fun even after all that time.

I have had this said about me before. Sooo..... where exactly have you heard that I work for SONY? Because I would really like those missing paychecks from SONY... seeing as I have not recieved a single one from them.

If I "rave about the game at every opportunity on every forum" then you and far, far, far, more others "bash, post false information, at every opportunity on every forum". image

Instead of making up stuff about me, and who you think I work for (I must have 8 jobs since I have posted nice things about 8+ games?!?) simply try refuting what I post with any proof contrary to what I post.

And learn to read everything LOL! Heck, read things more than once, then think about what you read before posting. All the way to the end of a person's post. Then you will see how silly you look posting that I "probably have no experience in other MMORPGs" LOL! image

He was inferring that the only people who rave about SWG are people that are employees of SOE. (the hidden meaning here is that only someone paid to do so would give this game a good rating...)

Sarcasm is difficult to master I know but give it a whirl, you may find it worth the effort...

Dont buy the gam is the first thing  to do, lol

However, since you did buy it, if your a marksmen, then shoot things..thats how you'll get better

Unfortunatley you'll get to the top of your profession in a month to 2.  After the third month, you'll be in front of your computer running your character around various planets wondering what to do...
