Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

5 things you might not know about DDO.

1) Unlike most MMOs, chest in DDO have unique loot tables for each and every party member.   One can't Ninja chest or drops in DDO.  If your buddy gets a "Sword of a Thousand Truths" so to speak from a chest, it isn't because he rolled Need on it when he didn't need it.  It was just his lucky day.

2) Unlike most MMOs where you have to spam the chat channels looking for a group to join, DDO makes it simple.   With a nice little thing called the Social Panel you can visually see what all parties are looking for other players, what quest they are doing, a small party leader description, what players are currently in the group (including their name, race, level and of course class).  You can set a LFG tag that group creators often search for members via.  This search allows them to narrow down exactly what they are looking for.   Unlike other games where you have to spam channels for sometimes well over thirty minutes in DDO you can almost always find a group within ten to twenty minutes at most.

3) While it is true that you do not get individual XP from killing mobs in DDO, a good portion of the mobs that you kill will be a part of an encounter which you will get some XP for.   And you get bonus XP for killing named mobs as well as a named mob chest dropping.

4) While there is a solo option for a good portion of the lower quest lines,  most players should have little problems tackling them on Normal.

5) Unlike a lot of  MMOs starting stats are actually important even in the long run.  If you do not understand DnD 3.5 rules,  or if this is your first DDO character you really may want to let the computer set your stats.

Here is a guide to back up what Neuro said above about soloing, (he will recognise them from Viglin on the US forums!)

Unlike other games where you have very limited choice with your character builds, DDO is EXTREMELY flexible, some examples

    http://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70571

The game has built in voice chat, even if you don't have a microphone, you can still listen to the rest of your party! (Being on Euro servers as I am, funny to hear lots of accents!)

There is a HUGE variety of monsters to kill, not the same old creatures from lvl 1 to end game.

    The community really is fantastic.

Is extremely casual friendly, no 40 man or even 25 man raiding, the maximum is 12, so you will not end up being Cleric No.6 or Sorcerer No.5.

I found DDO to be surprisingly unentertaining and unD&D like sadly.

I would play this game again if they found ways to slow groups down so as to encourage social interaction. The rate at which people blitz instances is insane. Voicechat was a bad move as it only helped to make dungeons faster, now people dont even stop to give instructions on what to do where when.

I don't like going fast either, say so in a group, I do, or if you set a group up mention it in your group description, that way, you will only have people asking to join who also will want to go slow.

I have had this happen in a few groups.  It can make the experience more of just collecting xp and loot and not really experiencing the game to its full extent.   The best way to fix that is to put on your tab that you prefer slow roleplaying groups or only join groups that state that in their headline.
