I don't get this forum

Maybe I'm just an idiot but I'm really enjoying this game.

I just got into open beta from fileplanet. I've played a bard to lvl9 and I'm really enjoying the game.

My system is my gf's hp laptop (stole it from her :p)
intel core2 @ 1.83ghz
1gb of RAM
GEforce GO 7600
some random hdd lol

I have gotten frustrated at server lag along the way( it'll hiccup once in a while), but with a little bit of playing with the graphics toggles I have the game looking good and running at at least 25 fps, usually in the mid to high 30's.

I have heard people say that the classes are bad and the classes in WoW are beter. What? The classes in WoW are the typical rpg classes, theres nothing unique or exciting about any of them. In Vanguard theres every type of mix you can think of, and some things you couldnt. Like a DD/CC/mezzer. Or a melee dd/buffer. Theres a heavy armor wearing healer, and a melee healer. I havent even gotten into them too much I can't wait to group with the different kinds of classes.

There are so many races its crazy. I only wish they would have all the hairstyles in, but even without that, the only character creation systems that can stand with it would be SWG and COH/V. You can change so many different aspects of there body and face I was at it for a long time.

I love the animations, while i didn't from the gameplay videos, while I'm actually ingame they are very fluid and nice. There almost like a fighting game.

Just one look at the water from on top of a cliff and you just go "wow, this looks like the real world." Not to mention that it just feels like a real world as you run around. When you go into a city it puts a little D&Dish text about whats going on where you are likee how the sailors are talking when your at the docks. Its really immersive.

The combat is really fun from playing the bard. You have lots of sword abilities, like some that you can only do as a finisher, and one that you can only do when your enemy is attacking your groupmate. You can also make songs from different melodies and lyrics to really make it individual.

I had a song that made me run faster than a mounted person so I didn't buy a mount but i really wanted to. This game puts rewards like mounts and dual-wielding at the beginning of the game so you can enjoy the fun early on.

The music is very nice to and the sound effects of the animals are very varied. When I killed a hyena I actually felt bad for it because it sounded so real. the music dosen't get repetitive either, and i've only been on one continent.

I'm not a vanboi I just don't think its fair that all the people who are to stupid to fix their graphics settings or who have a craptastic system(im running it on a laptop!!!!)make people not wanna buy it when they don't know ****.

No worries, I am with ya, Ive been in Vanguard since closed beta 4 and I have tweaked ini file to make the game look and perform excellent on my system -- the gameplay is awesome -- and I am very much enjoying the game. Everybody that complains about lack of "innovation" would complain no matter what the game is like. I will buy the game with the bugs and all, I think it is awesome.

Actually I am getting slightly annoyed with people here. A lot of people hate SOE so they will bash the game at any chance.

I say ignore everybody else and enjoy the game. Thats what I am starting to do. I am having a blast in beta.

Look man dont Worry about other people, as long as you're havein fun is all that matters right? Also i think VG is a Good Game it has So much goin for it. If they can just fix the performance and some of the animations it will be a Grade A game!

    I agree, Vanguard is incredible.

Once the lag is sorted and the bugs (whole point to open beta), this game will seriously rule.

Not only do you get 16 classes, all unique with flavour and 19 races but they are introducing a tailoring system very shortly after release so Shaman A wont be the same as Shaman B. Combined with massive character customisation and a huge amount of armour and weapon graphics (still beta, some missing), the clones of WoW and Lineage 2 will never happen.

Dont get me wrong, I liked WoW, played it and enjoyed it but I want something better and VG seems to fit the bill (personal opinion).

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

over the last two beta phases, this game has grown on me considerably.

the diplomacy quests really drive home the lore of the game.  the grind (and like all other games, it exists) is made more tolerable because you actually feel like part of the story.  diplomacy really adds to the game and gives a sense of purpose to  (what would be in other games) mindless slaughter.

crafting is challenging and well implemented. Far far better than world of warcraft and almost on par with SWG.

that said,  yes this game has performance issues.  yes this game has many bugs to work out.  It is in beta and i think the best policy is to withhold judgment until the final product is released.  but given the passion and the competency of the developers, i'm fully convinced they will have most of them fixed come the release date.

Actually it does matter if others like the game or not, coz if majority don't game will fail and get shut down.

What most people fail to realize is that this games goes to hell in a hand basket around level 12. The noob levels are even easier then in WOW and mostly all solo. When you get out of the noob areas you realize that the world is so big there is no one else around you ever and groups are very hard to come by. Lastly the game mechanics have been tweaked so much it's pretty much mixing every color you can think of until it turns to a muddy brown guck. Combat was great in Beta 3 progressively they totally screwed it all up. Now they screwed up the drop rates, added BOE and item decay. All these stupid changes combined with a sub par game world, sub par character graphics, sub par equipment, and total unplayability unless you are running a $5,000 system, and I am! The sad thing is its still slow as hell, and if they can't get it right after 4+ years with an engine handed to them fully developed what do you think they will acomplish in 2 weeks?

I really liked VG around beta 3 but now it's just garbage, I stopped wanting to log in about month into it and I built my PC just for the chance to be in BETA. I'm not bashing just to bash, they really disapointed me their loyal customer/fan what have you.

The only thing thats pissing me off is the server lag and getting kicked off, the performance problems are a lot less about your system, and a lot more about the shitty servers they use. If they don't fix the server lag theres no way I'll play, no matter how much I love everything about it, its just too irritating.

I disagree about the world being empty.  If you have friends/guild, you will find stuff to do at ANY level.

I run VG : SoH on a P4 1go RAM and a cheap cheap X1300 AGP 512 mo.  I get about 20+ fps average with tweaking.  Not the best, but it's alright for me.

There are just a ton of kids playing this game on their parents crappy computer in this forum is what I think. It really does suck to not be able to play a new game, especially one that is so huge and innovative as Vanguard so they have to say their baseless claims like "boring" "bland" "bad animation", anything that can't really be proven or disproven. Oh well, I guess only people who try things for themselves will get to see what Vanguard is really like. Fantastic.

Buddy, the servers aren't crashing lol they are tweaking them. Haven't you noticed the improvements in the last 3 days? They have to work on the server configurations, that's why we're playing. I used to lag like hell with even a single person around me, now I barely lag surrounded by like 10 n00bys. Just bear with it, the server resets are a necessary evil.

Well, a friend told me about this website/forum, and atm i am 49pct away from playing Vanguard. Personally, from what I have seen the game is going to but WoW out. I mean it won't put it under, but once it goes live.... and the word gets out well... serious rpg fans will flock to this game, IMO. The stories I have read on the official V:SoH site are very nice. And the overall concept is really cool. Can't wait to actually play. My only wish is that I could have gotten in one of the Closed Beta's perferably the 1st. But oh.. well. Im here now.

And to those that complain about graphics and bugs... I have never ever played a game that didn't have them. Especially durning a beta. And no matter how long a game has been in Development, or even how much money is spent building it... games have bugs.. you just have to deal with it. Most of us hardcore gamers, have highend systems, and know quite abit about making them run flawlessly. So I don't understand why those that complain, don't find work arounds.... maybe your not as smart as you think you are...

Well.. that's my 1st post here.... and to those that are playing (with a postive attitude), I look forward to meeting you, and killing stuff...lol
