Look into AO (Great Sci-Fi MMORPG) www.anarchyonline.com
It's a free game with the expansion Notum Wars, has a monthly cost to it and their new expansion Shadowlands costs a smaller sum of dollars, but is worth every penny. I am on cable myself but I heard it is dial-up friendly to an extent.
Anything around the Ultima Online genre will be dial-up friendly and cheap both game cost and monthly cost.
Hope this helps
I'm not going down there. Do you know what those things can do? Suck the paint off of your house and give your family a permanent orange afro.

ok i know a few MMORPG's out there but i am no expert. A few i know are:
Horizons: DO NOT PLAY IT!!!!! it sux!! plus if your loking for a free MMORPG dont waste your money on this.
Lineage II: right now its doing open beta but my friend played it and he says it suxs. I'd take his advice and not play it but you can do wat you want at least its free.
Final Fantasy XI: AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!! PLAY THIS GAME!!! although it isn't free it is worth it!!

Not the most up-to-date GFX in the world, but it does look good and the gameplay is excellent. If you are looking for something that requires a lot of team based or solo pvp then this is it.
It also plays well on connections down to about 32000bps so is definately 56k friendly.

Lineage 2 is probably the best OB out right now but its not very "56k friendly" especially with a 1.1ghz download and the new "prelude" patch which takes hours to update on even a cable connection... also ur gonna need a fairly high-end comp 2 get the most out of it
not gonna find many descent "56k friendly" games around anymore... i personally dunno how ppl can even use that stuff anymore, i spend half of my time on the internet DL'ing music and if i had to do it at 2kbps i'd lose it...

Well from what I've heard from fellow users playing the game, FFXI was very 56k friendly, except of course when you need to download the patches, that's the only nightmare with a 56k >_<. FFXI has a monthly fee of 12.95 a month though and you have to buy the game at a store as well. It's a decent game though.
Also, since you have played some korean MMORPGs, I suggest looking into Risk Your Life, a new and upcoming MMORPG, it's in closed beta right now, but MY GUESS is it might hit open beta in a month or two, but that's pure speculation.
You could try Knight Online or Cronous Online also, both which are Malaysian games. KO is in open beta and Crounous is in closed beta, but they are accepting people. Both made by the same company. For details, check teh game list for their websites.
First three months of Final Fantasy are great. After that, you really have no reason to log in. Gets boring after that.
Lineage 2 i can't really comment on because i have only had it for about a week and i can't even log in most of the time.
Horizons... Don't get.
FFXI- 30Warrior/13Monk
Server- Lakshmi
Linkshell- Drunken Chocobos (www.drunkchocobos.com)
AMEN Rathma...
I played Final Fantasy for three months, then I suspended my account and bid my farewells to earth's most boring game, went back to Anarchy Online who had my characters saved after six months, bought the new expansion Shadowlands and now I will never give it up again, especially since Alien Invasion Expansion releases in June (Drooool)!!!
Horizons, again, no comment

My room mate and myself are always at odds with games... we agree on very few (BF: 1942, UT2k3/4, Lords of the Realm 3... that's about it...). He plays FFXI, which I found insanely boring (albeit gorgeous)... I play Anarchy Online, which is less eye pleasing... but also looking forward to Alien Invasion. :-) I know a pair of gals who SHARE a 56k modem and play AO, that's impressive. And if you want the graphics to look better: www.edimensional.com for $70 you can get yourself some 3D goggles... Kubi-Ka and the Shadowlands have never looked this good...
As far as the saving characters go? My friend Ian played (AO) upon release for 6 months... stopped... and started back up last week. Guess what, same character. 3 years, now THAT is special!!!
PS: Horizon's sucks.

i am so glad alot of people agree with me that horizons sucks
