It's about time you all invested time and money into a proper MMORPG Shadowrun Game!
I for one love that cyber punk world, and in a time where we are flooded with fantasy based MMORPG's (All be it some very good ones) there is an absolute lack of cyberpunk MMORPG's in comparison.
I want to see my Shadowrun Game have PVP zones, Duels, a persistant world with very minimal instancing, varied races / classes etc.
I mean, imagine in stead of horse / animal mounts, we got to drive cars instead... now THAT's a real mount lol.
So come on developers (you know who you are) pitch the idea for a Shadowrun MMORPG... there's enough interest in it, i'm almost certain.
Regards,
Ginetti (a fan of the shadowrun world)

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
There is a shadowrun MMOG project underway...Shadowrun-online.com
Unfortunetely, the team doing it are in it strictly for the cash and are more than willing to butcher the spirit of Shadowrun in order to get it!
For example...they said that their Shadowrun world will not have drugs because that would mean an M rating and therefore reduce the number of subscribers. Shadowrun without drugs? Whateva...
Poopypants about summed it up. Any game really built on the Shadowrun universe will never be released by a major company because of the severely mature rating it would get. It is always butchered down to just adult content violence and alcohol consumption which kills the whole Shadowrun concept. A steampunk game could possibly work however since historical drug use is allowed to get lower ratings as well as a universes created for a game always seem to work better than creating a game around a universe.
Whoever says PVP table top conversions don't work I would highly suggest you look into the Shadowrun universe as scrappers for go beyond factions which would net you somethign like Shadowbane GvG or DAoC RvR and not something akin to WoW or other EQ variants.
Cyberpunk is an etirely overlooked genre. Metal Heart sucked and I can't even think of another cyberpunk game still on the shelves in current boxes. When Auto Assualt was in beta I was excited even though it isn't really cyberpunk it was a step in the right direction. After the success of the Guild Wars pricing model and discussion of possibly using the same method for AA I was even more excited (it was a fun game in beta). Once they slapped a monthly fee (which I consider outrageous when it is basically an arcade game and not an MMO, such as PSOv1, D2, GW etc ) I never looked at it again.
HAve you read Pattern Recognition yet?
Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!
"Disclaimer: The intent of this project is solely to create a game concept proposal for submission to Microsoft Game Studios."
They aren't being supported by the rightful owners and chances are they never will.
The real new Shadowrun game is here: shadowrun.com/ And as Gorukha said, it's going to be a FPS and not a MMO.
Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!
"Welcome to Walled-Mart. Consume your media in an orderly fashion. Move quietly and quickly. Violators will be shot immediately."
Seems an apt literary quote right now.

If you've read up on Age of Conan, it also has a M rating due to nudity and extremely graphic deaths. Yes AoC is being done by SOE(teh abomination :P)
Its not just about the M rating. Its how the developers look at it. Its been rightly said that people who just wanna make a quick buck of a good name will butcher the crap out of it and give you a game that even kindergarten kids are allowed to play
My Brute - Dare to challenge?
It isn't just the M rating, but the content to get it. The rating system isn't a point system where they add it up and give you a rating. Different things have different weights and violence is one of those things where you can be wanton and obscene and still get published. Dunno why, but it is. Sex you can get away with freely if you don't show it explicitly it seems (brothels are fine, but animations are not for some reason).
The political things in Shadowrun are what would get it killed off immediately. Cloning, biological warfare, genocide. abortion, eastern religion (oft removed from imported games...silly huh?)...etc. Imagine the uproar over teh Aztechnology, Wuxing, and Evo Corp. All the things that give the game story would be sanitized in political correctness or for generally making people uneasy.
But, I hope I am wrong.
Edit: bad typing day
Also, I am carefully keeping an eye on AoC. It looks interesting, but it is very hard to get a feel for the actual game right now.
As far as i know all the others are halo, starwars or mecharrior clones...And only star wars has proper role play elements. the others are mindless deathmatchs to see who will be the 'One'....these are otherwise known as ego-shooters....they only serve to bloat your ego.
I have read pattern-recognition, fairyland, nights dawn trilogy, plus a few shadowrun books....and a couple box loads of forgotten realms and dragonlance.....most mmorpgs fit into hte dragonlance/forgotten realms area. Akira comes pretty damn close to the shadowrun world.....more so the graphic novel than the movie....even 'Natural City' or 'Cassehern' is a good example...
you mean online ego-shooter. [sarcasm]wow how exciting[/sarcasm] thnk of the endless possiblities.....you can....shoot...things. uhh yee-up. not for me thanks i can microwave my plastic soldiers instead, much more fun.
There is a neverwinter nights mod that turns it into shadowrun.....i suggest we all get into that and help out as neverwinter nights also runs flwlessy on linux at much higher framrates than windoze. plus you can host your own servers, create your own story lines, maps characters etc etc.
Now you need to be a shadowrun gamemaster.
Those of you how say shadowrun should be a shooter, obviously have not spent the same amount of time i have reading all the source books for the area through out he sixth world.......my favorites so-far are denver in which the city has been divided into five areas (bit like germany directly after ww2) as it is at the apex of the five states....the other is chicago(i think it is) where the awakening allowed some pretty stupid shamans to open a portal to 'a spirit-world' after which massive amoutns of bugs spirits poured out into the city posessing the plentiful supply of human hosts, the end result was that the city became a home to giant dung-beetles and roaming mosquitos.....
Reading the sources book alone is fun, you get to the shadowland forum posts from people in the area nad its hardcore roleplay story telling.....i love it, i love it, i love it !
the only show on tv that i might say has come close ....well i cant cuase i dont watch tv anymore....i wont say ghost in the shell, nor firefly/serenity, or even matrix. Why? well poopypants puts it nicley.....drugs and the not-so-nice aspects of dystopian society...
In the sixth-world drugs come in apporximatly three flavours.....chemical, electro-stimlua, and magic.
the chemical drugs are really exspensive due to the need for resources....the electro-stimlua are like what trinity uses to learn how to pilot the helicopter in 'The Matrix' which branch further into two categories of 'knowledge while chipped' and stimchips....which are almost like tailored single use computer viruses.
The bladerunnner only slightly touches these aspects, the bladerunner books go much further...to the point i get the impression that the population in that world is shrinking fast.
anyyyyway. shadowrun was bought by M$ longtime ago....with the idea to prevent some game coming out that would overshadow halo or any of their other projects....just like Desnow puts it.....consume your proscribed entertainment with your left hand first or else we will force feed you disney shows every two hours...with bright lights.
first person shooters without a serious role-play element that includes trading, crafting, resource management, guild management, and world economy is just going to be are-hash of doom 1.
ps i have like 4 characters on world of warcraft......a lvl45 undead warlock, a lvl28 undead rouge and a lvl12 human rouge. so i kinda have something to lean on when i post this message.
nuff said chummer.
Even to myself I'm a genius
I would love a good Shadowrun MMORPG. This FPS that is coming seems to draw very little from the mythology, other than the name. Oh boy, I can shoot at people playing on the Xbox 360! Big whoop.
There were two RPGs based on Shadowrun in the 90s. One for Nintendo and one for Sega. If I remember correctly, the one was great, and the other sucked.

oh one beef i had with the genisis version was that during the first four or five missions.......the npc that roam the streets looking for your blood seem to kill you instantly, regardless of your firstaid uasage or evasion.....
talk about pod-death. very frustrating......its a huge relief that game developers are not equating hard with more enemies....or hard with one-hit-kills. but rather hard with sneaky tactics and hard with ingeniuos systems....
the concept of difficulty that sega genisis version of shadowrun porports is just luducrous. easy is one hit wonders, but hard? hard is when your zerged by enough npcs that will kill you. ((clap clap)) annoying and no cigar.
The project is on SourceForge, and is moving along nicely. Any of y'all that want to lend a hand, feel free to do so!
I will answer any questions you may have, as best I can.
