What i cant understand is that mmorpg companys look to dumb down combat to draw in younger players. Why is it that most of your game consoles have fast pace combat in them? Are they for adults only?
I really think pre-cu swg was headed in the right direction until wow blew up.Blizzard cut sonys creative balls off.Imagine working for Blizzard and seeing your main rival change one of there top money makers to cash in on what you are doing only to fall on there face.
Well enough of that. The reason i posted is to try and find a mmog with a enjoyable combat system.Something without the timers. My idea of combat isnt hitting someone and standing motionless in front of them 3-4 seconds waiting to attack again. At end temp or max lvl(whatever you want to call it) I want to be attacking every second.I'm a sci'fi fan over fantasy ,but i could enjoy a fantasy game if it had a good combat set up.If there are any games like this out there please post here and let me know.I would really like to look into trying them out. Thanks!

you left click on an enemy, and your character runs up, follows it, and auto attacks.
there is no movement on your part with the wasd keys whatsoever, you cant move and attack at the same time.
i love in wow where i can manually run straight at someone and slap them with an axe, because it feels like i'm doing it...
guild wars combat, in my opinion is the worst i've ever experienced in any game.
it's like you have a bot playing for you

it'll be awesome to see done. huxley will really be a groundbreaking game if it can deliver on what it's already promised.

First, we have the action combat. Hands-on direct combat, not indirect, turn-based fighting. In something we call Real Combat, the players can direct their attack towards one of six areas on the opponent. And not only in melee combat - also in ranged, and with something similar in magical combat. Directing your attacks towards these areas, in a certain order, will then lead to stringing combat moves together in combos.
One analogy I like to use in terms of the Real Combat engine is the "dance of death."
You get a soft lock on a target, this doesnt mean you are in range, you could swing your weapon at the air if you want but you wont hit anything. If you do strike a target you will still have to determine if you damaged your opponent and in that regard some back end stuff will come into play. Using active defense moves, stances, combo's, special attacks and the like will drain stamina.
Do the above developer quotes sound interesting at all?
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

combat in 'RPGs' are supposed to be slower.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I was not made known of this law that says rpg combat is sapose to be slow....Guess thats why they changed SWG.

Planetside has been doing 133v133v133 or more everynight for the past 3 or so years without lag... And that was 3 years ago, im pretty sure that with Unreal 3 engine and a updated game that Huxley will be able to pull it off as well.
As someone else said I also believe twitch based games are the future and the escape from the boring combat we see in todays MMORPG world. And by looking at how many are comming out in the next few years it would appear that Developers agree.

And Rumor has it that SOE's new Superhero MMO will be twitch based as well :P

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Er, the OP said he wanted an MMOG that doesn't have a boring combat system. AoC seems to fit the bill. I suggest he will want to look at it (as in future tense).
You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.
...Which is probably why ya found it boring. ...engaging any enemies in the game that way will only lead to a really drawn out and boring fight. ...Where as quick twitchy use of Interupts, Knockdowns, and spike damage will make the difference between a fight that last 5 minutes (until your enemies runs low on Energy) and one that lasts 20 seconds. Whether you're aware of this fact or not, you sure as hell don't seem to be demonstrating it so you shouldn't talk about GW's combat unless your'e willing to go into such details. Compared t the whopping majority of MMO's out there, it's combat is definintely Twitchy and DOES allow you to Manuever or exploit Terrain to mitigate damage.
Another game, which I feel does an even better job of making Combat fun is City of Heroes. ...However that's the ONLY thing it even attempts to focus on and the company itself has since moved on to other projects and is only supporting the game with a Skeleton Crew of developers now compared to the potential resources they COULD be providing. In either case, it's certainly worth trying whenever you can get a Free Trial key for it.
Yes, now if the entire games content didn't take a week to complete, it would rock even more.
Turbine slacked off big time with DDO, and now that it's sitting at the number 20ish slot in the ratings list, they aren't doing enough to fix it.
Frankly, their promises to make it feel like the D&D tabletop game did not work out well. Anyone I know who played/plays D&D tabletop hates the way that DDO feels, I included. They totally flopped it.
I enjoyed their puzzle system in the dungeons... now if only you didn't have like 10 dungeons to choose from, the game would rock. Not to mention you're stuck in the same city... always. How boring.
I hate the grind as much as the next person, but not having ANYTHING to do but dungeo crawl is a snooze fest.
Try looking at DarkSpace for twitch combat. We may only be a small game, but have been doing exciting and fast paced PvP for over 5 years.

I am not denying that the current incarnation of DarkSpace has it's issues, but we are working on them.
