it depends on what your looking for. more content not as advanced graphics and graphics dont matter but gameplay is more for you go with EQ. advance graphics not as much content go with FF. to say EQ is old doesnt help the original poster any grive reasons with your statement plz.
Agree. EQ for better gameplay... and is tried and true! FFXI if you want nothing but eye candy... but it sure is pretty... (we'd expect nothing less from SquareSoft!)

Go with EQ the only downside to it is some parts still have the old graphics but with a game that great you really don't care and after mybe another few expansions the'll fix it lol. never played FFXI but the idea of paying for each character sux monkey balls and i heard the game play sucks as well as teh interface. the only thing good is the graphics
Now, this is just my opinion, but I found EQ seemed to feel like I was just doing the same thing over and over and over. FFXI had a similar feel, but at least it looked nice doing it. I would choose FFXI simply because you can be a Tarutatu. In EQ you can be a Gnome or a Halfling (I like short characters, I dunno why) but I don't really like the look of a crazy old man(Gnome) and I didn't much like the LOTR movies(I liked the old animated Hobbit one, though) and I found that they have ruined halfling for me.

I don't like games that you feel left out on if you don't buy the Expansions. MMOs do not need expansions. If I'm paying $XX/mo I'm not going to buy an expansion because I feel that my $XX/mo is MUCH MUCH MUCH more than my fair share of server usage and Expansions should be free. If a MMO offers expansions it doesn't care one bit about it's community.

Apart from graphics EQ will knock FFXI with one hand tied behind its back in everything else.
And would not put too much emphasis on graphics since every new mmorpg brings better graphics. Also EQ graphics despite the age is descent enough
