try a degause(monitor option on newer ones).  though I think its not very likely to be that just because its a pattern.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

there called artifacts and Its your graphics card.  This usually happens when you overclock your videocard and the card gets really hot.  If a system reboot doesnt help then you have to buy a new one becouse your current card is screwed.

    This is correct.

Try returning to your default settings with your GFX card. If that doesn't help, you're screwed.

I concur, i had similar patterning with an old Radeon 9550. It wasnt overclocked nor overheated, it just upped and died.

Just to add a quick note, I once tried overcloaking this old ATI 3d Rage Pro  2x AGP. I had a similar start screen untill I reversed the settings. Then all ways back to normal.

Anyways, If you haven't overcloaked the gfx card, you need a new one.

My ATI 9800XT does that every once in a while. I just reboot it once or twice and it goes away.  If that doesn't work, try default settings, like the others have said, or updating your drivers.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby
