first question - do you have a computer that is capable of running NASA? if not EQ2 is definately the choice for you.

EQ2 isn't much better in the tech spec department.
But anyway try EQ2 trial(theres a new one out trial of the fae or something) and also try Ryzom or WoW trial as other possibilities.

    In their current states:

EQ2 because it draws you into the world far more than Vanguard.  The only really revolutionary feature of Vanguard is its diplomacy.  I could care less about player crafted houses, been done and in Vanguard it'll be unattainable for 80%+ of the players anyway.  (imo EQ2 is the best fantasy MMO currently available in retail, unfortunately that's not exactly saying much, fantasy MMO's have gone steadily downhill since the year 2001.  TBH DAOC was the last truely good *new* Fantasy MMORPG to release.  WoW wasn't BAD but it wasn't anything new either, just rehashed ideas from other successful MMO's.)

Once  Beta is over?  Who knows... Vanguard could wind up being better, though I doubt it.  Typically once a game is in final beta the gameplay is pretty much set..

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
    Sig image Pending
    Still in: A couple Betas

Then you must not be in beta,

i run EQ2 with 100's of people in faydark without a problem on 1280/1024 in very high quality settings

V:soH i run 1024, with CRAAPY graphics and not a single soul in the neighbourhood and it still runs like an enormous piece of junk, yes and after all the tweaks, driver tweaking, .ini file tweaking to even get a framerate above 10FPS, wich shouldnt be mandatory anyhow

EQ2 is a MUCH better game at this stage of the game, but then again, V:SoH is in Beta, and EQ2 isnt.

I'd go for the stability, so far V:SoH hasnt shown me a single thing that hasnt been done better in EQ2 or WoW

eh i doubt that, my old computer could run EQ2 on low settings and it was running a 64mb geforce 3 card and a gig of ram with little to no lag even on raids.. now even my 256mb with 2 gig of ram computer can BARELY run vanguard even when no one is around.

    Pretty similar games.

I thought that Vanguard was going to look more like EQ1, it turned out to look like an EQ2 big brother.

I hated the game when EQ2 was released, but now I have to admit that SoE did a pretty good job.

The game run pretty smooth on my machine, thousands of quests, tons of content, excellent comunity.

Vanguard should have been a game made for the EQ1 nostalgics, instead Sigil followed the WoW train and it failed big time IMO.

    EQ2 FTW

I couldn't agree with you more. EVERY detail of the two products resemble each other. When I first logged into Vanguard I couldn't believe how much it reminded me of EQ2. The character models and animations are IDENTICAL to EQ2s. I would say that unless Vanguard introduces some sort of pvp content (besides the "one" pvp server) my vote goes to EQ2 (at least it attempts to have pvp content).

The only high requirement on EQ2 is memory, and even that it’s a killer now that 2GB is quite affordable. Any graphics card or processor produced in the last three years is sufficient to run EQ2 at very high or extreme quality provided you have 2GB of RAM and turn a few key settings like shadows down a bit.

Generally I’d say EQ2 is the best fantasy mmo’s out there today, but the difference isn’t so great that individual taste and flavor don’t matter. If you want a more polished game go with EQ2. If you want a more middle of the road MMO that makes it easy to meet up with your friends and be doing something productive quickly you will prefer EQ2. If you want a more hardcore game that sacrifices a little convenience for the sake of emersion go with Vanguard.
