I want to create a paladin on another server with one of my friends, but I don't want to be horribly behind when the new expansion comes out. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but what should do to level up quickest?

Quests. The game will always be faster to 60 if you ignore Instances, mob grind, groups.
Instances are not 100% going to happen the whole time you are logged on.
Groups will not always be there also
Grinding mobs is not only boring, but a lot of quests have you KILL MOBS which go towards exp. When you finished killing a certain number, BAM exp again
Paladin, I can't help you. I can get a horde char to 60 really quick.

Grinding is still the fastest though. In the time it takes me to run and go to turn in a quest I could have gotten twice or more of the xp from killing more mobs.

Not true if you grind several quests at once in the same area and hearth. Also, post 40 a mount makes up the difference. In the time it takes me to cross felwood to turn in a 6600exp quest I doubt you could grind it. Plus, I then get another quest that will award similar exp.
1-60 takes 5days /played when doing quests and moving on to new areas. No instances, no tradeskills, no mob grind besides a tiny bit at the end to hit 60.

I have to agree here. Instances should be used for fun or completing quests that give good rewards and exp, tradeskills in your spare time before you stop playing or something, sometimes you don't even have to grind at the end.
Quests are the ultimate levelling tool, you grind while completing them (all in the same area) essentially, and the reward exp is nuts. You can do a bunch of quests, then grind out the rest of your level if you're close, return all the quests, and you're more than halfway done with your next level.
Jame's (sp?) alliance leveling guide. A free guide that shows you the best quest lines to pick up and complete at the same time for the most xp gain. My priest was less than 9 days /played and the last 10 levels were holy. If you've leveled to 60 before, some of the things you skip and others you add to, especially with the new quests. It's just a nice tool to use. There is a horde guide as well, but it wasn't complete the last time i looked and really wasn't as good as the alliance guide.
As mmorpg has no problem showing gold selling and power leveling services... id recommend the Gold farmers tool... its a very good bot for WoW it alows you to glide all the way to 60. but dont bllame me if ya get banned.
As mentioned...quests are great as long as you don't waste time on Epics ones, long runs to other zones and do try to group them up as efficiently as possible. I'll call Shenanigans on the 5 days played... only a few people can do this, with a very careful plan on the horde side, where the running around is less. A more reasonable expectation for you (esp as a Pally) is probably 8-10 days played (unless you literally spend not one second chatting with friends, taking potty breaks or anything else)

The fastest way to 60? As others have stated, grind.
For every level in WoW there is a corresponding area, those areas have their share of quests but mobs in that specific level range. The level ranges are common sense, obvious type ideas. 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, etc... You hit the area, finish the quests and mob grind until you reach the next level. That's it really, no big secret.
Following this, playing an average of 6 to 8 + hours a day, you can attain 60 from level 10 in about 16 to 20 days. Some obvious notes though, ignore instances (unless your a priest, holy pally, rest druid), do not worry about gear but keep it fairly up to date (most especially your dmg statistics). Stay away from well known scuttle areas if your on a PvP server, places like SVT and Redridge can slow you down immensely.
Oh and by they way, there are class guides on the official WoW forums for absolutely free, which most of these pay guides rip off anyways so use them even if some are a little out of date.
By the way, since this has to be said, getting to 60 this way is awefull and there is absoluely no fun in it, but that's how it's done.

Its the fastest way. Don't bother with quests, just... kill.

Definitely get all the quests in each area and then go hunting. You will be grinding and questing at the same time.
Buff people around you and they will tend to ask you to join them. As a group you can knock out the quests very rapidly.
Turn in your quests before you level up to get the most xp.
Grind the rest of the stuff in your area until you are ready to move up, rinse and repeat.
You can find what areas you need to be in at each level at the alakahzam and thotbot websites.
Dungeons are great fun and a great way to make xp. However you can spend all day trying to put a group together for one.
