Food and water ?

tkobotkobo Member Posts: 465

Eating and drinking required ? IE Risk of death or incapacition if you dont get enough?

Encouraged ? IE Buffs, faster health /endurance recovery system etc ?

Or basically ignored ?IE Food exists, you can even craft recipes, but it has no real effect ?

This is a dev chat which should answer most of your questions.

    That answered the question,thanks.

Unfortunately no. Food and drink aren't mandatory for survival in Fallen Earth.

I was hoping that food and drink would play a MAJOR role in the game. When I think about a post-apoc setting, I think about how valuable clean water and fresh food would be. Food and water could be a major trading tool, along with keeping your character healthy. To be perfectly honest, not making food and drink a mandatory feature in the game drops Fallen Earth down a couple of notches on my "To-Watch" list...Big mistake IMHO.

I kinda agree with you, just not to the same extent.

Food and drink arent a deal breaker for me.

BUT i also would have perferred them to be required. To me it just fits the setting so much more.Still at least they didnt go the route of making food and drink pointless game mechanic wise.

Well, it's not a deal breaker for me....just sort of scratching my head over it. In a game that's all about surviving the fall of man, you would think there would be a big emphasis on, well...surviving.

Think of it this way.  You are currently debuffed from not eating, so you go eat food for a buff and now you're back to normal stats.  Good enough?  Not trying to bash you, just trying to show you another POV.

talking on expendibles/perishables is there limited ammo for your guns - if so can you make more by crafting it or do you just find it?

(sorry to sway off-topic but i didn't want to start a new thread for such a simple question)

i'd take a look at that video interview but i broke youtube on my computer and still need to figure out how to get it working right again :P

if not fighting over a water tower perhaps there can be fights over ammunition dumps

While the idea of depending on food and water for survival sounds like an intriguing idea I'd guess that the developers figured that something like this wouldn't really be necessary and sometimes realism just has to take a step back in favour of playability.

On the other hand though I  think that suffering debuffs from food and water shortage is actually a worse punishment and will give players more reason to keep themselves fed than just: Starve -> drop dead -> full health + not starved anymore.

Ya know what i think would be a workable compromise ?

Make is so in most of the game world, food foraging is automatic and provides enough for the char.

BUT in special areas, those that are very very desolate, chars would need to carry extra food and water with them becuase the foraging is so poor in that area.

So in a normal area, players would see the occassional message saying "You succesfully found the reguired substance, and devoured it".With no action required on the players part.

BUT in special areas, youd get a message that said "Foraging here is not turning up enough to sustain you.You feel you should eat some of your rations" With an action of eating and or drinking required here by the player to avoid penalties .

Put a growing penalty on stats and skills in such areas that apply when you dont provide yourself with the extra required food and drink.
