this is coming from a person thats played alot of MMO's. I have played to name a few as follows;
UO
SWG
WoW
DAOC
EQ
EQII
Im prob forgetting some others also..heh.
Well from what Ive see so far there is nothing new in this game. It really reminds me of a more up to date version of DAOC with a touch ot EQ2/WoW in it. Ive talked to alot of my friends also playing it and they arent too impressed either so far.
PS. This goes a long ways us even trying this game knowing SONY has anything to do with it after they destroyed SWG!
Comments
Ok so lets take this one step at a time.
1. Diplomacy is like what other games? ..... None
2. No instances... Well that sure sounds like WOW and EQ2 to me. *eyeroll*
3. Build your own place to sell stuff and your own boat.. Yeah other games have had that I believe but none that you mentioned.
4. A good crafting system... By good I mean, not so easy everyone will want to do it. EQ2 - Nope... WOW? HAHAHA if you call what WOW has a crafting system I feel sorry for you.. DAOC... It used to have a really good one.. Oh about 2 years ago.
5. Flying mounts.. WOW will have it in certain zones.. You can use your VG mount anywhere you want.
If you don't like a game, that's fine. Hell I'm not even sure if I will play VG.. but don't spread crap around trying to push an agenda, when those who have played it know your full of it.
Nothing to see here folks...move along.
Mmotroy and his friends don't like Vanguard? Well, that settles it then. No one will play Vanguard...
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
2. SWG and DAoC does not have intances(might have gotten some by now since I haven't played those games in a while)
3. SWG and DAoC has those features(speedbike in SWG)
4. SWG had a really good crafting system, too bad the game was whacked by Sony
5. Flying mounts....who cares...really?
Just my 2 cents

Flying on Dragons is pretty exciting in my book. But hey I am crazy like that...
What I'm conserned about is that this game is not releasing at the right time with 3rd gen mmo's at our doorsteps. If this game was released 1-2 years ago I would have bought it(cause I hate WoW), but now the game is released too late. A waste of great potential.
Though I'm openminded, and since I haven't played the game much yet my opinion might change
PS:
For the record, I love this genre, but I don't need a flying dragon:)
I'm beginning to see a patern. The people who dislike new MMOs often have a 5 or mor MMOs under their belts. To me that seems like excesive jumping around considering the types of games that MMOs are. Could it simply be that those types of people (the ones that have 5 or more MMOs "under their belt") are just simply jaded or simply aren't fans of MMOs in general?
MMOs by definition involve comittment. They aren't like console games or other single player games where you reach the end and are finished with them. But it seems to me that there is a subsection of the MMO community that becomes tired of MMOs rather quickly, and that these players have exponentially growing expections of the industry and are thusly exponentially unimpressed by each succeeding MMO they try on.
It think it might be more telling if people, when they give their "Qualifications" for why we should believe them, list their subcription length and days played. I'll start.
CoH- 6 Months subscribed, roughly 30 days played.
WoW- 1.5 Years played over 100 days played
CoV- 1 Month subscribed, about 20 hours played
DDO- 1 Month Subscribed about 1 day played
DAoC- Free Trial, about 15 minutes
EQII- 1 Month Subscription, about 15 hours played
3 month hiatus from MMOs
VG:SOH 4 month Beta, about 10 days played
There you go. Obviously I spent some time with my first MMO, CoH and then played WoW for three times that length. Skipped around a bit trying to find a game that I could commit to for longer than I had WoW. I knew within the first month of WoW that it would have trouble keeping me after about a year. I knew when I tried CoV, DDO, and EQII that I wasn't impressed and wouldn't renew after the first month.
And now...given my "Qualifications"...
Vanguard is deep enough to at least keep me interested for a year, possibly two. The combat is familiar to me, but more involved than the other games I have played. There are more dungeons than I could possibly experience with one character...I haven't even started doing anything on Thestra/Kojan.....
VG is a great game. Fix the performance and stability issues and the more detrimental bugs and I won't have to worry about new MMOs coming out for quite a while. And by then, I'll probably be finished with the Fantasy setting =P
