Nervous about coming back...(question)

Hello, I am an old player of Asheron’s Call, and like many of you I haven’t found a game that was even close to the excitement of AC. I am thinking of returning, but my dilemma is that unlike many people who played AC, I can’t remember all the details from when I did play it. I was quite a bit younger then, I remember some stuff but lots of it has escaped my memory.

Basically, what I was wondering, is it still a good place for Newbies, or less experienced people to start playing, or is it more careered to the seasoned veterans that remembered loads of stuff/continued to play? Thanks

I came back a couple months ago and found that I picked up the system again prety quick.

Like always get in to a good alliegance with a patron that is willing to help you relearn the ropes and the new hunting spots.

Also you can create a new character and run thru the newbie quests, it helps alot. Sanamar is a good starting town. Though all 4 have really good starteer quests and it's worth it running around to each of them to explore the different quests.

Hmm, I might come back in a few weeks then. I’m not totally sure if I’ll even bring back my old characters, they were not that high up anyway and I want to start fresh. Thanks for your reply…hopefully I’ll see you soon in the world Dereth!!

Hiya.  I was cruising this site and came upon your post. I've been playing AC since 1992.  I took a 6 month break in 1994 but kept payment on my account.

First off, the game offers very good content for newbies and highly seasoned vets.  Starter quests are available from all of the starter towns.  They even give starter toons a decent set of armor now.

I think they need to expand material for toons in the 90's to 110 lvls however.  Abayer's Lab (aka fiun's) seems the single place to get good xp until you reach lvl 110 and can hunt the 110 Eater Dungeon.

I enjoy the game now as much as when I first started.  The constant updates to the game keep it fresh to me.

I'm one who plays more for adventure than pk or just collecting xp to max out a toon asap.  I quest regularly and am open to quest with anyone who is decent at team play. (ie -- is leading for the whole group if lead,or is willing to follow the lead if not.)

I am in an allegiance that strongly supports its members and adhere's to gaming rules. -- We don't tolerate ucm at all; nor foul language on the allegiance chat.  What you say in private chat is between you and the recipient however.

I and other's in my allegiance prize newbies and those returning from a lengthy leave from game.  Depending on your level of experience, past and present, we may/maynot powerlevel you (at your request).

For instance if you are playing a mage toon for the first time.  We would generally not powerlevel you.  To do so would hurt your game skills tremendously.  Mages have lots to master on their way up and we don't wanna cheat you out of learning what you need to know to play the toon well.  If on the other hand you were an upper or high level melee and are returning as a melee, we see no problem with getting you up in levels fast.

We have several quests that we regularly run as a family quest.  Bobo and Gaerlan are regularly run, for example.

I routinely take toons (allegaince and non-allegiance) on the Candeth Treetop aka Salvage Quest, as well as Refulgent Bracelet, Hidden Entrance, several of the Blackmire runs, and other quests.  I can genenerally run the quests on request.  -- Even if on timer.

Me and one of my vassals escorted a lvl 20 toon through the desolate plains to see how much xp a lvl 20 would get from turning in snow lilys to a Fiun NPC.   It was a fun and challenging run.  There's no way a lvl 20 could get through the desolate plains solo.  (I'm sure this stuff is something new to you but I wanted to point out that I/we do spend time with low lvl toons even though at lvl 182. )

I play on Morningthaw. If you happen to join that server look me up.  I mainly play my mage toon Wocky. -- Currently level 182 mage.

Did you say you played Asheron's Call in 1992? ...In all honesty, I seriously doubt that. It wasn't even in private beta until 1996-1997. Unless you were one of the original Asheron's Call developers who founded Turbine, and made Asheron's Call in their garage while being fresh out of college/university...

The release date was November 2nd, 1999.

Oh gosh! lol.  You are correct!  I did post that very late at night/early in the am.  I actually started playing after the release of Dark Majesty (around 2002 not 1992!) and did break about 2 years after starting.  I dunno where I got those dates from but it was about 3am my time when I posted and I was half asleep.  Thanks for pointing that out.  Now I'm trying to figure out where I pulled that date from.image

I am in a similiar situation.  I am curious, have you returned yet and what do you think?
