Anyone else sad its Warhammer and not Warhammer 40k?

I've been about this game... only lately did I find out its picking the less intriguing parts of the warhammer universe... oh boy more dwarves and elves....

Instead of waging galactical war as a space marine... doing orbit-ground drops into hordes of green orks.... we get this poo

Or imagine being a Tau , with your own customized in battle crisis suit (droolage)

Who shares my view?

Im glad they did either. I play both games so its fine with me. I would like a Necromunda kinda game, and a mmorpg of something like inquisitor would be cool too. As the other topics that talked about this, it is hard to do a somewgat decent 40k game. Rarely do any races act together. Spacemaries might work with Ig whictch hunters/deamon hunters, but necrons with noone, Tau and kroot  possibly with eldar, i dont know for sure,Chaos with maybe dark eldar, Orcs too chaotic probly wouldnt go with anyone, same with tyranids. The answer could be to...base the game on it. Make it somewhat alike, but stretch what ya need. WAR is based alot on warhammer fantasy. But they did create a few things so the system works right. Besides having SOME ressemblacne to 40k fluff, with 11 or 12 core races thats alot of races, and people will want them all at launch too. And when you do a game that huge there will be more issues, because you can make alot of people happy some of the time, but you cant make everyone happy all the time.

For twisting the races together, you could group somewhat good armies and bad together as WAR has, and with a story line something along the Chaos gods and other high powers have grown bored and have brought groups of each the major races toa planet, and stripped them of off planet travel means. The races would never do well together, but independatly they stand no chance, So the races that could some what operate togther with similar principles do to enhance any chance of survival. Add onto the fact, that no-one is out of reach of the chaos in the warp for their minds to not be twisted(The reason for this is in books, such as the horus series, even the best of men can be twisted and made to do things against their normal path, thus allowing space marines with others. Even necrons could work with others.Even the necron gods could be in on it for the shear destruction. What if the gods offered the last 6 surviving races passage off planet. Just my idea after thinking for 2 or 3 minutes. So surely some professions could create something better....

Dude...there's one of these topics every week on the forums here! Don't you look? Every week someone says the same damn thing, a bunch of people agree then a bunch of people explain why a 40k MMO that stuck to lore wouldn't work and why it's economically a stupid move for a company to do. Give it a rest already.

I am so happy its not 40K.  I have tried 40k and hated the feel and history of it.  I am so glad its not 40k.

When someone has this opinion couldnt he check the past threads.... talking about the same all over again and making a thread about Warhammer 40k every week is kind of boring....

why dont you revive those threads http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/108584 ,

    this one http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/102321

or this one http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/84095 (probably the biggest)

    etc etc etc

instead of making a new one.... you know what i mean...

Im with you... Im still interested... but I would be literally chomping at the bit for 40K

iether way, ALL HAIL LORD TZEECH! (because there is no way in hell they could let Necron be playable).

i agree with what they did.

if they did warhammer 40k it wouldnt really be a MMO... because it would just be a FPS all the races had guns except for the dinosaur one cant remember the name right now.  there would be no melee and there would be no need for healing because it would basicly be one shot kills.

the races are better in warhammer anyway so they chose the right thing

People just don't get it. 40K is heavily unbalanced for small scale MMO type games. The majority of folks wouid go either Space marine, Chaos Space marine or Eldar Aspect warrior. Compared to your average Orc, Guardsman, Tau Shas'la or Guardian these are supermen. And take into account 'unbeatable' enemies (Necrons and Tyranids). How could you possibly feature all of these in a prepetual conflict without bastardising the fluff and severely damaging the 40K universe. And this is before you even get near balancing Issues.

40K works as a tabletop game, translates well to RTS and could make a good FPS (no firewarrior does not count). The full games will not, however, make a good MMO without damaging some part of the lore.

BUT, there is a way to get it to work, sort of. Take Necromunda and Inquisitor, mash them together a bit and it might work. You would still have to limit what toys became available though (no power armour, or at least attach some drawbacks.

As a 40k player I would have to agree. 40K doesnt really lend itself to a mmo unless you force 30 people to join IG for each one that joins Space Marines etc...and even then it would be alot more of a FPS than a MMO. and probably not much fun.

I disagree with you Beastage... The thing that interested me mostly about this game was that its Warhammer, not 40k. I've played several space MMOs such as eve, etc and they get really lame after a few hours of shooting lasers... Although a 40k MMO would be very different to Eve, the space theme is just too dull compared to a fantasy age style MMO.

I want both...  Don't really care witch one is made first.

A Warhammer 40k MMORPG wouldn't work. An MMOFPS could.

It's an all out war across thousands of planets. You don't come across more than maybe 3-4 of any given race on a single planet at a given time. There is no room for free movement or progression in a standard environment. If you had just small squad combat, it wouldn't feel like Warhammer 40k.

its true and i know i have covered this in some other topic somewhere and even the FPS would be hard. plus have you seen an imperial guard battle line its just line after line after line repeating of fodder to die in the name of the emporer while the tanks do most of the real work along with the artillary.

To be honest I am a bigger fan of sci-fi than fantasy. But since a fantasy universe is soooooo much easier to both design and play within they are more popular.

I would have loved it more if it were 40k, yet this game looks so awesome I just don't care.

Well, I do not know much about the 40k world, but the same old orcs and goblins and dwarves (well not same ol...these orcs goblins and dwarves are actually viscious) ....well basically I would love some fresh new species (races) some elephant men or some other mutated race would be cool, but the lore surrounding these species (orcs etc) is so vast that it, in itself, draws a large audience.

    I call myself good.
    I call you dumb
