Question on missing

Deathstrike2Deathstrike2 Member UncommonPosts: 1,777

I'm new to this game, and have a level 2 rogue elf who uses 2 regular long swords.  I'm noticing that in combat I miss sometimes 5-10 times or more in a row.  Is this normal?  Does it get better?  Is there some kind of miss streak breaker code in this game?  Thank you!

A few things right off hand that could affect this.   I don't play a rogue so I am not sure, but I doubt you have TWF by that level correct?  That would cause your offhand to miss a lot over if you had the Two Handed Fighting feat.

Also really depends on what your stats are.   What is your Dex?    And what level are you going into the quest as?  Stuff with my fighter that I can hit without even thinking about in Normal, I miss about a 1/4 of the time in Hard and Elite I only hit about 1/4 of the time.

I'm honestly not sure.  I didn't realize I needed a special skill for dual wield.  I just put the sword there, and it took it, but I didn't get any kind of warning or anything.  As far as the level of my missions, again, I am not sure.  I am playing them on solo difficulty as I get them.  Where do you find the level?  I'm such a newb :[

We all have to start somewhere.   What server are you playing on?  Wouldn't mind helping you out.

You don't have to have a feat to be able to duel weld as a Rogue.  But in able to do it well you need take various feats that increase it such as TWF.

Did you let the game pick your stats for you or did you pick them?   If you picked them you might want to be sure your DEX stat is fairly high as this is a very, very important stat for rogues.

It is very common to miss a target in DDO.   That is a part of what makes the game exciting sometimes.   It takes a while to learn how to get your stats and feats to a place to clean the mobs clocks so to speak.

its because at lvl 2 you don't have the 2 weapon fighting feats. At base, fighting with 2 gives you a -4 to hit with your main hand and a -6 to hit with your off-hand. (actually it's worse since you use 2 long swords. a smaller off-hand weapon will help some) Taking  the ambidexterity feat  will put you at -4/-4. It doesn't even out until you can get 2 weapon fighting and improved 2 weapon fighting.

The difficulty can be picked before entering the quest.

Here are some of the feats you may want to focus on if you plan to duel weld a lot:

    Two-handed Fighting

    Pre-requisites: Strength 15+

    Type: passive

    Cooldown: n/a

Effect: increases chances of scoring glancing blows when fighting with a two-handed weapon

    Two-weapon Blocking

    Pre-requisites: Two-weapon Fighting

    Type: passive

    Cooldown: n/a

Effect: increases the amount of damage blocked when defending with two weapons

    Two-weapon Defense

    Pre-requisites: Two-weapon Fighting

    Type: passive

    Cooldown: n/a

Effect: +1 armor class when fighting with two weapons

    Two-weapon Fighting

    Pre-requisites: Dexterity 15+

    Type: passive

    Cooldown: n/a

Effect: reduces the penalty to using two weapons at the same time

    And also maybe

    Weapon Finesse

    Pre-requisites: BAB +1 or higher

    Type: passive

    Cooldown: n/a

Effect: uses DEX bonus instead of STR bonus when making melee attacks with certain weapons

Yep, that was my problem.  I dropped back to a single +1 long sword, and I'm doing double the damage as I was with 2 normal swords easily.  Go figure :]   Thanks to all for th egood advice.
