After upgrading my card i now run highest graphics at 90 fps

mrmelonimrmeloni Member UncommonPosts: 236

I played Vanguard before with a radeon x1300, i have a dual core pentium D and 2 gigs of ram. My fps was something like 20 and that was in "highest performance - worst graphics" settings. It was playable, just, and the graphics were shit.

I upgraded to a nvidia geforce 8800 GTX, it's an expensive card, but damn has it made a difference. I now play the game with all the graphics settings turned all the way up, including "best graphics, worst performance" or whatever it's called. I'm getting 90 FPS with this new card with the settings turned up. The video card makes all the difference.

I really can't believe how smooth and nice it feels to play like this, the graphics look amazing now.

no shit!!!!! you tellin' us that with a 600$ card you can play the game? hurry!!! everybody preorder the game!!!
  • mrmelonimrmeloni Member UncommonPosts: 236

I'm not only playing the game. I'm playing it with all graphics settings at their highest, and with an fps of 90. That is a massive increase from before.

Vista will be out soon, if you want to play games in Vista graphics, you are going to need a Vista card anyway. 8800 GTX is a Vista card, so there you have it, upgrade now or upgrade later, your gonna need to do it at some point, or you could just keep on whining about how games suck on your pc. It's your choice, and it effects only you, nobody else.

Also where did i tell anyone to preorder the game? I am merely stating some facts because i see a lot of posts from people who say the game runs crap on their machine. I had this problem to, and merely getting a new graphics card fixed the problem perfectly.

    LMAO

    The following statement is false
    The previous statement is true

Actualy it effects everyone who don't have parents stupid enough to give their kid $600 for a video card so that he can play a $50 game.

But you have fun playing EQ2 with better graphics..err...vanguard.

Ohh, and anyone with half a brain will wait to get Dx10 card when good games requiring Dx10 actualy come out...at which point your card will be outdated.

It is so nice that people like Ssstupido have all just vanished from the forums never to be heard from again.

If gaming is important enough to you, you should go out and buy a next generation card, if you can't afford 500 dollars for a card then maybe you should go out, get a job, and stop wasting your life playing computer games. 500 dollars isn't a lot for probably one of the most important pieces of equipment in your computer.

The 8800 GTX doesn't only allow to play Vista games, it's a good card, with a lot more power than anything else out atm. By your logic, we should never buy a video card, because it's going te be outdated in the not to distant future anyway. That is the most retarded thing i've ever heard TBH.

that is the problem. you are not just getting a new graphics card. you are getting THE graphics card. the newest coolest and most expensive graphics card on the market right now. me, i will never play/buy a game that forces me to have the most expensive hardware to play it properly.

so what? i am enjoying FEAR and Oblivion 8 months late? well, good enough.

You don't need the BEST to run it, you can run it with less, i hear people getting good FPS with the 7900. I am running the game outstandingly with this card, with everything maxed out, that's the point. However it would be finanically more wise to buy the 8800 GTX at this time because it is vista capable and will last you into the future.

You also won't be buying this card JUST to play this game, this card will work with any game you already have and games of the future.

Except vanguard isnt a Dx10 game, so spouting off about needing a Dx10 card RIGHT NOW is just stupid

You don't have to buy a DX10 card, however it would be more wise to buy a DX10 card over any other type of card. I know people who have bought the 8800 GTX and they are in love with it, it's one sweet card that's going to last them a long time.

I'm 39 years old.  I have a job.  I don't know what nation you live in, but here's some information about mine.

"Real median household money income remained unchanged between 2002 and 2003 at a level of $43,318..."

    http://www.factfinder.census.gov/jsp/saff/SAFFInfo.jsp?_pageId=tp6_income_employment

That's household income.  For a lot of households, you can divide by 2 (or more) to find individual incomes.  In my case, I'm still paying off the $1000 I spent back in September (I think?) for a new set of tires and a new flatpanel monitor after my last crt died.  $500 is many months worth of expense for me... and a lot of other people who live in my country.

I am not spending that money to upgrade hardware just to play a game.  It doesn't matter how "worthy" that game is.  I'm a big game addict.  I've bought most online games since there were such things... I'm old enough that i was playing Trek back on VM mainframes and GT-Trader(?) on Vaxen.

Vanguard isn't getting my money because I can't afford it.

well, one thing you got right, buying a non-DX10 card now is not wise. but buying a 600$ card isnt wise either. conclusion: do not upgrade your graphics card right now. wait until DX10 comes out, and both nvidia and ati bring out their new medium sized DX10 compatible cards. that way you will have a long lasting card for a much low inversion.

    anyway, enjoy your 90 fps

besides the dirext-x 10 drivers are crap ATM ,  There are no prove that the 8800 GTX will function good under dirext x 10 because there are no direct x 10 games out at the moment.  (exept crysis from crytec wich will come )

Buying a 8800 gtx because you want more frames now is rubbish ,  or you have a real old card.

im waiting for the next gen direct x 10 card , then im sure all child diseases are gone.

I'll buy a 8800GTX if the combat is as good as Gods and Heroes (based from the trailer), or Guildwars.

But i can't seem to feel it in the game.  When i cast a spell all i see is the damage popping out and some sounds and that's it.  I didn't  enjoy it.

I have read some things about Vista and initial critiques on it are that Vista will not be a good OS for gamers due to the amount of resources it will require. I work for a IT form and we have had Vista and the new office etc for several months in here and they recommended not using Vista for gaming. So if anyone has heard anything to the contrary then plz post a comment about it.

Well for those of us that want full use of DX10 i am sure we will get new cards. But honestly i don't  see myself buying a G.card just for vanguard.

Yeah sure i am getting a new G card soon to enjoy DX10 properly when some games actually come out which is maybe end of year. But i certainly would not go for the 8800GTX  because atm the price is stupid because its the only new gen cards in the market.

The inital benchmarks for the R600 from ATI has leaked out and all sources show its well ahead of the 8800GTX beating it as much as 30% in some games(thats a trashing ) and will be cheaper.

Well to bad you cant upgrade i too can play all the lastest games and i can even play vanguard fine but guess what alot of us will upgrade my reasons been my wife is  playing so i need a new rig and she is using mine which is probally about the same as yours sence we play the same games and i sont seen to hear you whining about them  Is that ok with you or do you want to try and tell me what rig i should get to If you dont want to play vanguard cool but lots of us do
  • svannsvann Member RarePosts: 2,230
Thanks for the info.  I have a new rig arriving just about at release date.  With all the naysayers I was starting to think it wouldnt be able to crank the graphics even on a good rig.  Nice to know that it will be worth it.
