I am SICK of all the bashing here (and everywhere else). I played several MMOs since UO and I was really looking forward to Vanguard because it seemed to be the perfect mixture of my favourite MMOs so far (UO, EQ and SWG).
And guess what? It did NOT dissapoint me at all. Yes the game isn't finished yet and yes it most likely won't be when it's actually being released but which MMO was released finished?
I love Vanguard already because of the amazing world, the complex crafting system, the fact that the Ranger is like I imagine a Ranger and that also all the other classes I tried so far are a lot of fun to play.
It seems that the housing system will be even better than in SWG and the fact that there are ships and tons of mounts isn'T a bad thing either.
To me it seems a lot of people who are complaining are the ones who's first MMO ever was WOW. They want to move on try something new -> Vanguard and don't get an improved WOW but a new game they can't understand. Vanguard is much mroe than WOW it's old school in a sense and doesn't rely on PvP charm to lure CS kiddies into addiction. Vanguard is a complex game with tons of possibilities you can't explore by playing once for an hour. And unfortunately most bashing posts come from people who didn't play more. They didn't liek the first impression and act like the whole game is crap jsut because they don't give the game a chance to show tehm how much better it really is.
I am sick of it.
So now you can go on bashing me.

And if you have any idea about the genre you should know that the people behind this project know what they are doing. And with the game being so addicting for me already although they themselves said that the ywould have liked some more months to finish it it's obious for me that it will be even better.
But hey, what's the oint talking to a proud SOE hater? Hey why can't you be an SOE hater an a Sigil lover?
Don't trash talk this great game so many people put their hearts into just because you don't like their publisher.

SoE has nothing to do with how bad this game is. I know you guys like to put the blame on SoE for your own shortcomings but seriously, get a tin hat.

WoW sets the standard for MMO success still, I may hate the game with a passion, but it is professional work, something VG will never be.
mwahahaha yeah read the complaints and base your opinion on that..... are you completely retarded man ?
he played the game and is speaking from his own experience and i agree with him 100% (also played it)
my favorite part is where you say it does not add anyting new at all.... if you even played the game at all.... you didnt actually get off the newbie isle did ya ? this game adds tons of new stuff that most existing mmo's out right now can only dream of having.
i understand that not getting a private ship a flying mount and some uber gear with +100 to all stats on the newbie isle and about 5 lvls per hr puts off a lot of the kiddos from getting to even lvl 10 but seriously man... give the bashing a rest cause its seriously pathetic...
if you dont like the game that is fine... different games for different people but dont bash a game you didnt play and dont base your opinion on what other people say...
So you are actually comparing Blizzard with Sigil right ?
What if Sigil had Blizzard bank account ? What do you think of that ?
Have you heard about Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft ? Blizzard money comes from there and that is why they were able to release a POLISH boring game (like ALL their game btw).

This statement is priceless, yes so complex you still button smash just like all the countless game before it. For a 3rd gen it definatly has a 2nd gen taste don't you think?

Beside the fact that you can't just button smash when you find strong opponents I have to point out two things:
1.) Don't confuse the words complex and innovative. I don't say that Vanguard reinvents the genre. I say that it delivers a lot of gameplay.
2.) Vanguard isn't only about fighting. Everyone who tells me that eg. the crafting/harvesting system isn't complex didn't play the game.
You only want to PVP and fight? Play WOW or Guild Wars... or Coutner Strike for that matter. You want a simulated fantasy world then play Vanguard.
you HOPE it gets better. in its current state this game is pretty sad compaired to other games already on the market. True the graphics are nice, but that counts for little in todays market. so far i've been very disapointed with the game, and it's lack of bringing anything new/good to the table. the hype for this game has gone way down since it's beta 5 (open beta) has come out for people to try it.
if this game was released around the same time as WoW and EQ2, then I'd think it had a better chance. but this game rates like a second generation MMO, not a third that it claims to be.

Exacly, they had the money for it, this is the first game Sigil makes.... im proud of them

Well, maybe Sigil should look into creating some other games to add to THEIR respective bank account. I'm guessing no one responded to your comments because they're moronic. No one told Sigil they had to make an MMORPG, they could have dabbled in RTS, FPS, sports, etc...fact is, Blizzard did it right with WoW. They built a huge fanbase with the Warcraft series, built up their bank account, and now they have 8 million subscribers. Sigil could easily do the same thing.
Take that foolish argument to a fanboi forum.
Ok, everybody has their opinions both good and bad related to this game. Some based on fact and others based on a purely personal point of view which is fine to a point.
I will try to give an unbias critique of what I have seen so far in playing Vanguard. I can safely say "unbias" because I really have not been looking forward to this game but was lucky enough to get into the beta testing. I also play MMO's and at least tried most of the well known ones. Am I by no means an MMO junkie but I do have experience with them. So with that being said here's what i found so far...
First and foremost I believe the game is being release prematurely. There is alot of cleaning up to do before the scheduled January 30th release date. This is not Sigil's fault but SOE's. Can these problems be corrected? Yes, but it can turn off many of the "fence sitters" out there.
The graphics are "meh", nice but nothing jaw dropping.
The game engine is not very good. in fact it's borderline bad. I have an excellent system with plenty of power under the hood of my computer and can run newly released games flawlessly with most settings at High or above. But this game chugs along at best. Is it playable? Yes, but I find it unacceptable to have to tweak my .ini folder to scrap up a few more FPS's.
Character animation is wonky and spell effects are down right pathetic.
The game world map is also poorly designed and confusing. If the NPC is not marked on your map, good luck trying to find him/her.
And the cities of the wood elves are a chore to get around in, as everything is spread out in the trees and there is not always pathways/bridges to cross over to another location.
However...
The game world from what I have seen of it so far is huge! And as the OP said it does make an excellent fantasy world.
Character Races and Classes are plentiful and well thought out.
Character customization is incredible. There is a plethora of tweaks you can do to your toon to make him/her look just the way you want.
Crafting is very good here as well IMO. I don't usually craft in other MMO's but I found this much better then EQ2's system as well as the others.
For some strange reason I found Diplomacy to be very addictive. I know it's just basically a card game and if I wanted to play cards I would play Solitare on my desktop, but it's fun to play anyway.
Can some of the bad things be fixed? Hopefully. Can they improve on the good point? Sure. Will I pay the monthly fee to play this game in the future? Maybe.
But one thing is very clear to me, this is in no way the next "big thing" or 3rd Gen MMO. If you enjoy this game and have a great time playing it then I think that's what it's all about and I'm happy for you. If you think this game sucks, well I can understand. Looks like you we have to wait a bit longer for that 3rd gen MMO.
The only thing I can say on first sight is, that I like the graphics and that the items got a durability. Nothing seems to last forever there :-)
Animations arent that good but this can be changend anytime and not THAT important for me - though.
Until now, the best part was the costumization of your chars.
Tomorrow I will try PvP
