"Greetings Everyone!
On January 16th, 2007 the Official Vanguard Forums will close. We’re excited to provide this opportunity before launch for the community and our Affiliated Sites to adjust and familiarize themselves with one another. The Affiliated Fansites are dedicated to serving the community and its needs and will be the primary source for information and discussion about Vanguard; while the program will change and grow this goal will remain the same.
We will provide a seamless network that promotes an active community without the hassle of finding information when you need it. The center of this community will be the Vanguard Community Site, www.vanguardsoh.com; this site will continue to provide constant updates and links to the discussion on the sites that concern the community. In addition to updating the site with links and news we will provide the community with tools to find the Fansite that is right for them. To view a list of our Affiliated Fansites please visit www.vanguardsoh.com/fansite.php.
We understand there will be questions and concerns, and invite the community to share them with us here and we will be happy to answer as many as we can.
Thank you everyone, we look forward to seeing you in Telon and on the Affiliated Fansites!
- The Vanguard Team
*Please note that the Beta Forums will remain open, and those that have yet to receive access will. Thank you for your patience."

Wow, you are right. Everything is back. I must have ended up on board hickup cause they only thing i saw (like 10 mins ago) was the annoncement part with the thread you posted.
It still bodes ill IMHO. Seems like they want have less direct contact with the player base. Any rants or complaints will be shot down on "affiliate" boards by Sigil Ass kissers.
Keep the affiliate boards, but FFS keep the real forums too. Someone who is interested in the game would rather look at real forums, not google Vanguard forums and get a million sites (ok, 20 something, but still)
UO did this and the stratics boards were way more laggy than the UO boards - and when I was on there a while back they still were. I don;t think its a good idea for a company to not have their own message boards for THEIR game. But oh well, thers lots of thigns I dont agree with about this game lol.
Having no offcial forum is the likely the greatest idiocy this entire Saga of atrocities has yet seen!
Imagine any potential customer, whats one of the first things he does? Look at the official forum, about details, about players moods and opinions. I think many will think twice to buy a game with no official forum.
Second, its a symbol of the community of a game. It is the only place all can come together and no one is banned because of personal gripes of private forum owners. On official forums, all are tied together and moderators and devs have some control over the information flow.
No, this is a bad symbol, an ill omen about communication and a bad, negative advertisement crying out loud "we dont care, we dont want to waste our time talking to our customers". This may not be 100% so, but it will be what MANY will read out of this.
It is a great mistake and I fear Vanguard will pay a hefty price from this absurd descision. No forums... bah...

IMO this is a total copout on thier part. If you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Looks like they are leaving the kitchen. What next? "we decided never to patch the game, we cant handle all the negative feedback, whah whah whah cry cry cry"
well after we see the idiocy that was spawned on the WoW forums I'm glad to see a game like Vanguard is trying out not having official forums.
to add to that, forums are a place to generate public support. If you have enough public support you can get away with whatever you want, like not taking a blood alcohol test after shooting someone in the face, or getting warlocks buffed, or having spys cut off fuel supplies in other corps stations and have that considered "within the rules" of the game.
So eliminating the forums is eliminating one of the advantages the socially skilled people have.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You? if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it. Waiting for: the next MMO that lets me make this macro if hp < 30 then CastSpell("heal") SpellTargetUnit("player") else CastSpell("smite") end

You also need to take into account WoW has the same percentage of morons on their forums as most other forums do. WoW just has massively larger numbers of people total.
It's an excellent move. No whiners will cry for nerf or buffs. The dev will be less influenced by the minority crowd. They will focus on working on the game with minimal outside influences.
SWG suffered so much from the whiners... look how it is now and guess why it never moved in the right direction back in the days. Whiners left and right......

It's actually a stupid move. If they are really not going to have official forums (ala DAoC) the chances of them losing touch with their playerbase (ala DAoC) is very good.

So now they can not hear ANYONES complaints about a class, good or bad.
They get to play favorites with guilds, and the people runnings the sites can suppress any opinions they disagree with.
We have seen what the game looks like without feedback from anyone but Brads ass kissers. 3 combat revamps. It should have only needed solid feedback from people who will give direct honest opinions about what was wrong and how to correct the problem.
And everyone needs to quit bringing up SWG. That was not entirely SoEs FUBAR. LucasArts had a hand in it, remember? It is LucasFilmss IP, and they have final say over any changes. Hell, you don't know that SoE could have prevented the NGE even if they wanted to. No one will talk due to contractual agreement, but I would love to know what really happened.
And we have seen what Lucas did to the new Star Wars movies, without someone willing to say no to him, he screws things up. And if the Sony contract said they can't say no to him, well, they are screwed.
So quit blaming SoE for everything. If anything, they gave Sigil time to work on Vanguard more. And if they buy it in a year, then so be it. Can't get any worse than it is now.

DAoC is part of the best rated MMO on this very site FYI. I played only during beta and early release... I can't really comment on the game, but it seems that a good deal of mmorpg.com visitors likes it.
Excellent for MMORPG.com however, as peoples wanting a neutral ground where nobody enforce a private policy, will find this site sweet.
Best proof? See the recent influx about Vanguard on this forum! Haha, maybe the moderators will have to create a bigger Vanguard section if the population grows to such a point.
MMORPG.com, the official refuge for serious non-elitist Vanguard players! Especially that the staff here, they don't have questionnable motivations like some other affiliate sites and will undoubtfully receive all the information as soon as it is ready for public release.
TEASE: EvEngelists are going to be outnumbered soon?

Most official forums are just a useless cesspool of whining anyway, so it's not a terrible loss.
That being said, I think it's a less than positive move, over all. While it saves Sigil/SOE from having to field a small army of CMs and Mods to police the mouth breathers, it could easily create an ivory tower situation with the devs, though. Obviously, the various affiliate sites all want the devs posting on their site more than others, so the mods there might get a bit overzealous in squashing dissenters, creating a vacuum where all the devs read is praise for the game.
Or sites that would normally speak out about this or that with the game, or report on some snafu might pull the article for fear of losing their privileged status with the devs.

Taken from the Warcry interview at CES. How exactly are they going to listen to a community when they are afraid to host their own?
vs.warcry.com/scripts/news/view_news.phtml
The link to the interview if anyone is interested. Least they acknowledge UO had player driven boats first.
