The lastest hype level says it all

The way the hype has dropped for this game says a lot.  I had high hopes for this game, but so far i've been very disapointed.  I expected a 3rd gen MMO, but it just reminds me of 2nd gen MMOs.......only a few years behind.

    the "lastest" hype only dropped by one tenth

    if you want to get technical about it, theres barely any seperation between this game and the top rank hyped MMO.

    woo..big margin.

    Age of Conan ranked #1 with a whopping 7.2

    Vanguard ranked #6 with a 7.0

    I cant but help notice Gods and Heroes is ranked higher than Aion, Tabula Rasa, Darkfall and Huxley

    in other words, that meter means dick

    i don't just mean the hype in MMORPG.  any forums you read, you get a lot of the bashers and the people defending the game.  but it does take a good bit to drop the hype of a game in the MMORPG hype area.  with thousands of votes, and it drops a tenth of a point means potentally hunderds of people changing hype to a lower number, or bad hypes from new people.

    It's simple, people found out what VSoH stands for ... which is almost nothing (new)!

    Well i could careless what people say the game is sweet theres one thing a game developer cant put in a game and thats the ability to use your imagination and i think  that sigil supplied the tools to do just that, 3rd gen is just a name games are what you make them

    Keep waiting for one to come along that has something truly new i think you will be waiting a long time a prefer to enjoy vanguard with my family than sit and wait for a game thats not going to be made for 10 years or more

    Yes, games are what you make them, but Sigil should consider alot more work to -finish- their game before they shoot themselves in the foot.

    Just 17 days for the current build to be live and in stores?

    The game is not new, its not fresh, and its not working. It looks like EQ 2.5 (not compliment), it runs worse than AO, and there are very few areas that even look interesting. They forgot to put some soul into the game; they were too busy worrying about bumpmaps and flying mounts.

    The way that meter works is very strange. Things drop off and come back on all the time.

    I am looking forward to Gods and Heros. For a long time it wasn't on there and would only show it's self occasionally at like #7. Now It's number three. So really, It doesn't mean much at all.

    Am fine with that i like what i see and so does my wife and am willing to support sigil and they can fix it on my dime anyday  every mmo ive ever played had lots of  faults vanguard does set me free and i like that i haven't been lost in a game in a long time feels so refreshing and the death penalty just makes it better

    All mmo's play the same at the end of the day like i said there what you make of them and ive seen nothing but improvements sence ive started playing i like that tells me hey there trying

    I expected Vanguard to be EQ1.5 with good graphics. So far I am very happy with the game. I guess many people expected something more.

  • fulmanfufulmanfu Member Posts: 1,523

    everyone with crappy computers or an axe to grind with soe gives it a 1. most people dont vote for alot of the other games, thats why vanguard has so many more votes than the other 'hyped' games.

    Wow, another guy with 3 posts, 2 of which are devoted to Vanguard bashing

    The number of votes for each game is a lot better indicator than the actual hype level.  Take a look at the number of votes:

    Vanguard = 4639

    LotR = 3926

    WAR = 3557

    AoC = 3144

    Spellborn = 1632

    Gods & Heroes = 1199

    Stargate Worlds = 465

    Those were the top 7 games when I posted this.  Even though every thing after the top two all have the same hype.  Don't just look at the hype - look at how many gamers voted on it as well.

    Another indicator for games still in development is the number of posts it has for their forums.  Here's the breakdown for the same seven games:

    Vanguard = 21274  (21384)

    LotR = 5095  (5101)

    WAR = 9941  (9958)

    AoC = 4651  (4671)

    Spellborn = 1734  (1738)

    Gods & Heroes = 1499  (1504)

    Stargate Worlds = 825  (826)

    So, those numbers taken along with the votes on hype, as well as the actual hype level itself give you a lot truer picture.  As you can see from the numbers above, Vanguard has more forum posts than the next 3 COMBINED!

    Just to update the numbers about 5 hours later.  There you go.

    Yes we were not expecting EQ 1.5 with good graphics and YES we were expecting something new. Isn't that the reason we were waiting for Vanguard? or any other title say Conan or Warhammer??

    What the hell is wrong with people? are Mmorpg players so unimaginative and boring these days that they will feed on same recycled crap for years to come? i say if you talk big and generate a hype which blows out of proportions atleast have a product to back it up or just STFU!!

    Yeah,  it's amazing what people will believe.

    I'm probably thought of on this board as a "Vanboi" or whatever.  If that's the case, so be it.  But, I've consistently told people to try the game out before they make a decison one way or the other.  Try the game in beta or a free trial when that becomes available or whatever.  Basically, don't fall for the hype (one way or the other).  Try the game out, if it's not for you - oh well  - hopefully, you'll find something coming out soon.

    The thing I've never understood are the same people coming back month after month after month - saying how badly Vanguard will fail, telling people to not even TRY it.  Why?

    It's fine if you don't like the game - there are plenty of games I don't like.  Guess what?  I don't play them.  I tried them, didn't like them, so I stopped playing.  End of story.  I didn't go onto forum after forum spewing out hatred for the game - day after day - month after month.  Why?  It was just a game.  It's not like they kidnapped my kids and ate them or something.  Geesh.

    Warhammer has about 3/4 of the votes that Vanguard has.  Others like Stargate only have 400.  Plus, how many of the games on that list are in open beta being exposed to scrutiny before it's launch quality?

    Just not worth my time anymore.

    The vast majority of the "haters" are saying: "Don't even bother with this game it sucks!"

    The vast majority of the "non-haters" are saying "Try the game out - you might like it"

    See the difference?  I think it's a big difference.  I haven't seen anyone saying that everyone MUST love this game and that they are stupid if they don't subscribe to it for life or something.  I have seen - A LOT in fact - of people saying this game is garbage and absolutely NOBODY should play it.  Are you going to tell me there isn't a difference between those two groups?  I think there is.

    It appears the developers were so locked up in their studios making VSoH they were not staying in tune with MMORPGs and the changes that have been taking place over the past two years or so.  VSoH would dominate if it game out 5 years ago.  Let's face it, the MMORPG world is looking for a contender to go toe to toe with WoW, VSoH is not it.  My hopes rest on WAR.  AoC will be the same MMORPG crap that has been put out before.

    As far as a contender for WoW.  I don't see it happening except for maybe WoW 2.  Blizzard for whatever reason has a good mix of loyal players and good marketing.  With 8 million+ subscribers (around 2 million from North America); not sure if there is anything that will even come close.

    The good thing is: that with WoW holding that many subscribers there will always be investors willing to take a chance to get a piece of the pie.  That's good news for us gamers; as it gives us even more possibilities that we will find a game that we like to play!  That's what it's all about isn't it?  It's not like we all have to play the same game, just that we can have the chance to find the one that we like best.
