Ok, I have downloaded the trial version of eve online - client version 27912. Took forever on dialup. Ran the install and fired it up. Keyed in my username and password. Female voice says "connecting" then I get a message about an incompatible build. Ok, go to the eve-online website and download the current patch - version 28296. Install the patch and start the progam again and try to connect and get "Unable to connect to the selected server. Please check the address and try again." Under server "Tranquility" is says "CHECKING STATUS..." Hmmmm, OK. Not really sure what is going on. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
General computer specs:
Windows XP SP2, external USB dialup modem, ATI X800XL video card.
Well, I guess I can always go back to Guild Wars.
Thanks, TonyG

I have tried logging in at different times an received the same message, except this morning it showed the tranquility server as unknown. I pressed connect and the female voice said connecting, then I got a message about that maybe the server is down or that I am not connected to the internet. I am trying to log on again now, but I am getting the "unable to connect to selected server" again. I guess I have something on my computer that is coflicting with the game. I guess I will mess with it until my trial time expires.
Thanks anyway.

Go to www.eve-online.com and log a petition. They should get back to you resonably quickly. http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fPages%2fPetitions%2fMyPetitions.aspx
If you have any firewalls (like the one Windows XP has) try disabling it, and if that doesn't do it i don't know what to tell ya mate. You'll have to try what the guy above says.
Btw, don't worry about your trial as you'll be able to get a new CD Key if you don't sort out your problem in time.
Good luck!

Yes, tried turning off xp firewall, booting up with minimum xp services, no help. Ran tracert, which showed that I can connect to the IP address. Not having any problems with my connections otherwise. Guild Wars, internet, email, are all working. I guess it must be something on my computer that the game does not like.
Its too bad, since I resently bought a 32 in wide screen LCD monitor for my computer. I bet the game would look pretty cool running on it.
Any suggestions on a space game that would be the next best thing that would work with dialup.
Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Found the problem. I did a full virus scan on reboot and the scan found a couple of suspicious files. After remove these files, I can now log into Eve Online. Funny that it was not effecting my other online programs (that I know of).
Thanks for the replies and offers of help.
