I'm not sure there is a correct answer to that question.  You will get opinions and have to decide for yourself.

I play several servers and personally like Devon cluster the best..   I like the PVP and the community.

You will soon get a  couple follow up post from those that swear that  Classic is 'the only' way to go.  I respectfully disagree with them, although I do play Classic as well.

Make a char in one - try it for awhile -- leveling doesn't really take that long, and you'll get an idea fromthat BG's  (battlegrounds) what the server is like....   You can always move or try another server.

The reason why people will say Classic is because of the population.  There is nothing wrong with the other servers, but people like to see a lot of other people even if they are not grouping with them.  The regular servers appear more barren and require slightly more work to get groups.  Given that most people do not have any patience for a game and expect everything to be at least as easy as the previous game they played means if you want people to play you stear them to the easiest place and that is Classic - more specifically Gareth.

But you won't find much difference in RvR from one side to the other.

In my opinion, realms are pretty much balanced when it comes to RvR.  I don't believe that collectively, one realm has an advantage over another in the battlegrounds or the frontier.  My advice is to pick a class that you like to play (fighter, mage, rogue or hybrid) and try its various versions in each realm.   Once you find one that you really like, then try different servers to find a community you feel compatible with after you have selected your realm of choice.  Just my 2 cps :)

Excellent advise from the previous posters.  Personally, I enjoy Classic, not only for the population but the lack of TOA and buff-botting.... to each his own.

As to which realm is best.... on the Classic servers (which are my only frame of reference) I'd say things are pretty well balanced.  Albs seem to have the greatest population (judging from fact I kill more of them in BG's than MIds) but Hibs seem to be better at holding keeps in the BG's.  I haven't spend much time in the frontiers..but each realm seems to retain control of their respective keeps without much of an issue.

So, pick a fun class.  I personally recommend your first charcter be a good soloer....like a Vampiir or Necromancer so you can level up quickly and have someone you can use to farm aurulite or other materials... to quickly raise money for your other characters (you'll make more than one)...   But...if you want find lots of groups... be a Mezzer (Bard, Minstrel, etc) or Healer (Druid, Cleric).

    My latest character is a Ranger...and I'm really enjoying him...but I also have a 49.5 Vamp/Eldrich/Bard as well.

If you want Hibs to scream about you being overpowered in BG Pvp... roll a Theurigist on Alb side... we hate them... but remember...we try to kill them first..... so expect to go flat a lot. (same for Bainshees on Hib side)

Or...make a bolt caster like a Wizzy or Void Eld and laugh at people who you manage to kill from so far away they can't even see you...

Tanks seem fun (though they hate dying from bolt casters) especially when rumbling around in a good 8 man....

Do tanks die from bolt casters?  I mean my void Eld is gimp so I never play him.  First of all there is the chance to miss, if the target is incombat at all just forget about it.  Shield can block it.  And your ABS reduces damage on top of that you have resists  All of this means that bolt casters just shoot at other casters.  As far as I know the only way a tank would die from a bolt caster would be from a team of fire wizzies.

If things have changed let me know and i might play my Eld.  But given the low dps on the bolt and the low level of the bolts compared to Mid/Alb I just gave up (not to mention all of the archers being able to kill you from outside bolt range).

As to archers out ranging casters, Im not seeing it.... fire wizzys and theuris can cast on me farther than I can seem to shoot...(course, my bow is only 9...so that might be why)

Scouts have 2000 range and Rangers 1800-1900 range.  Of course nearsight has the farthest range in the game at 2300.  This of course is in addition to bows and armor that give +10% distance.

If I was a caster I would use a DD before a bolt on a tank, part of the reason bolt casters suck (Eld being by far the worst).

Unlike other games all classes can perform in RvR.  The question is what role do you want?  You have healers and mezzers.  Nukers, meat shields, siege operators, etc.  If you are a solo person then certainly an archer class would be up your alley.  You have great distance and because of stealth not much to fear either.

There are about 4 caster class people hate.  Bainshees because of massive DD AoE spells, animists because of turrets that can stack up and do lots of damage to those in keep sieges, theirgists which can cast an infinite amount of pets that do damage and stun/root you, and warlocks that can dump an insane amount of damage instantously on a target.

i want dps lots of it so thats sounds like warlocks but idn

Warlocks can do insane damage... but only for a short time... so you'll unload on one person..but not be particularly effective against your next target as you have to restack your spells....

Can't really speak for Bolt casters.... mine is a Light Eldrich and while I have one bolt (which I find lands fairly often) I do more killing with my higher speed blasts and have lots of fun nearsighting people or tossing an occasional mezz or stun around to help control the fights better.

I must say, I don't recall being killed by a Warlock and can't say I fear them very much... (and with so many around its probably harder to get groups).  I dont care for fire wizzys, theuris, (animists are not a bane to me since I'm a HIb) anything that nearsights me and I can't stand things like Shammys(?) that have long lasting dots, roots and diseases that can either kill me long after they are dead or hamper my speed/movement for up to 2 minutes or more....

The balance is fairly good...you won't find a single class that can totally own the rest.... (though some maulers sure seem hard to put down to me) but some to stay away from if damage is your game are some support hybrids like wardens, minstrels, mentalists etc....  they can still do some damage..but thats not their primary job....
