To play, or not to play...

That is my question.

I think it's about time for me to find a new MMO, and I'm wondering if WoW would be a good choice? At the moment, I have weened myself off of Everquest for the most part (I stick around to help any of my casual-play guildies out.) I also semi-actively play Guild Wars (getting boring for me as of late) and I've played the EQII Play the Fae trial, which is perfectly ok in my opinion.

I've been reluctant to start because of what I've heard concerning WoW's supposed horrible community, consisting of many "ZOMG ! @|v| $() teh 1337!!one1!1!11 and j00 are teh ghey n00b" kids, and those who say it's nothing but grinds and raids. However, the coming release of the Burning Crusade expansion has me looking into it.

So, what do you think? Would one recommend starting to play WoW (and possibly BC)? Or would it be better to skip and wait for Vanguard or Warhammer?

Its really not worth your time. It might have you saying "omg this is great" for 2months but after that youll notice you are reapting the same things over again.

    ---The quest consist of this...

"Go over there and kill X amount of that moster."

"Go in there kill this guy, get his head, come back to me get crapy item."

"Take this bag to that guy and get 20 coppers."

---High End content is a joke. And to get ANY nice gear outside of a 40man instance is a endless grind b/c no one wants to help you because going to a 40man is easier. (Run-on FTW)

---Crafting is more of a joke b/c is pointless. Anyone can get max level. The only craft worth doing is Enchantment...

The graphics are colorful and attracting, yes, but thats all it has going for it. You will find yourself standing in Ironforge or Orgimmar watching other people watching you.

    The Expansion is laughable....

--Max level cap to 70....Yea ok so now instead of takeing me 3 weeks to get level cap it will take a month.

--2 new race...Ok yea they look cool..

--New 25 man raid...Like Zul"grub...no thanks youll still need to be in an end game guild..and a Pick up Group willl be next to impossible

--Flying mounts...only usable in the Outlands...Gee Blizz your so thoughful

--New spells...how about fixing the old ones..

--Horde gets Pallys and Alli gets shaman....Is Blizz F#*king retarded?

If that dosnet convice you... The community is INDEED immature..Full of cry babies and teeny boppers.

Bottom line ..dont get it...youll be quiting within 2 months if not sooner.

Don't listen to some of the trolls around here. Give the game a try as it has a 10-day trial somewhere around here. If you like it...fine, If you don't...its also fine.

Edit:The expansion also adds a good amount of content contrary to what people may be saying.

if you have never played WoW, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try and see what everyones talking about (positive and negative).  i also came from EQ and GW, but played WoW for a year and a half, incl my time in CB, OB and stress testing.  i got so tired of it though that i can't even login--even after taking  a year off.

i'm in beta for Vanguard right now and so far its pretty interesting.  a more challenging version of WoW  imo (although thats going to piss the purists off--apologies in advance.) it should go live in several weeks as well.

    good luck in your decision!

My recommandation is (as the above) to try a trial account and see if u like it. If u do u can just buy 1 month and see if u think u will keep liking it. I suppose u will get hooked, most guys do and then they get tired at lvl 60, but the most keep playing at 60. It's worth a try anyways

    Free trial here signup.worldofwarcraft.com/trial/index.htm

Like the trial then buy a box its only £20 in UK now.

As to the bad community, its the same as any other commnity, you get kids, idiots and nice guys.  Haters just use "the community" to bash the game.  In the 15months Ive played I've never once thought "these guys are all kids", its simply not true.  86 in my guild and the youngest is 17 the average age is mid 20's.

WoW is a little more relaxed than EQ,  more consider it a game then a life so as long as you want to have fun and not talk politics all day then WoW is for you.

Dont believe the guys who say they got max lvl in 2 weeks, they are the no-lifers that play 10 hours a day or are players on their 3rd toon and know where/how to lvl fast.

My first toon took me 4 months (played about 20 hours a week) a total playtime of over 500 hours. and with the expansion Id say a new player would spend a good 900 hours to get to max cap.

Yep you should try it, the game is good. Community is like anywhere on the internet - good people, dumb people and retards. Horde side always had a somewhat better community (no elves), but blizzard nerf horde community in burning crusade by moving a large part of the elf kids to horde.

While I am by no means a fan of wow it can't hurt to try it.  But, and this is just my opinion, the voyage to 60 (soon to be 70) was ALOT more fun than the endgame.  Blizzard seems to be addressing the issue of raiders vs casuals by changing up the pvp honor system which makes damn nice gear available to anyone and with the release of the burning crusade it seems that they are starting to shy away from the monolithic raids.  Someone here will most likely be able to correct me but in an interview with one of hte devs they were asked why there were no 40 man raids in the expansion.  The response was that only a fraction of the populace ever saw those areas.  They will not take those out but will not be adding any new 40 man raid instances.  Part of this was the success places like AQ and ZG (both 20 man instances) had seen.

Do not expect the grind to lessen though.  From what I have seen there are a number of new factions to get rewards from and anyone that did the Naxx attunement in a lump sum or has done the CH faction grind will tell you it gets old real fast.

It can not hurt to try, hell you may enjoy it.  Just try to stay out of Ironforge, stormwind, ogrimmar and undercity as much as possible the community can be very.... irksome. :)

If you you're looking for dynamic and immersive game with meaningful  PvE and PvP that require skill you will be disappointed, but If you like a static and shallow world where nothing changes and the only point is to grind to level and grind to get gear then you will like it. In the end you do absolutely nothing but max out your character's gear through repeatedly grinding instanced PvP battlegrounds, increaseing faction reputations through grinding, and grinding raid dungeons. After you max out your toon, you can start an alt because...there's nothing else to do...no war to fight...no territory to defend...no cities to build or destroy.  In the end you can show off your gear with the "1337 doodz" in a beauty contest.

    YOUR perspective.......you're entitled to that.........

From what you state you obviousely have not learned/explored all that there is to WoW.

Move on now that you have vented your ignorant frustration.

Don't let the door smack you in the arse......

Me thinks Menawa dont like WoW,

He forgot to say that all that he said is true for all other MMO's (name 1 with no grind for xp,faction or gear) , hes also a little incorrect,  in the expansion there is territory to fight over.  You also need skill for both PvE and PvP Menawa prob just fought mobs 4 levels below him so he would not lose and when he got ganked he just could not come to terms with the fact.

PvE is far from meaningless, Wow has a rich lore, being built apon since 1990 when Warcraft 1 was out, theres also 5 novels out.  You just got to read what NPC says and not click thorugh as most do.

But just play the trial and see for yourself. Bare in mind that WoW is the highest ever rated MMO, almost all sites give it 90%+, its won countless awards, 8 million players and growing even after 2 years.

WoW does not take its self as seriously as other MMO's, through the game there are references to popular culture like mario and luigi, Zelda and Paris hilton (called Haris Pilton) in the game, its a fun game.
