Voyage Century is one awful game

There seems to be a lot of hype around the new MMORPG Voyage Century, here are some facts i would like to clear up.

First of all regarding the concept, the whole idea of a MMORPG based on 16th-17th century European maritime theme is not really new, in fact the Japanese company KOEI first released Uncharted Waters on Super Nintendo way back in the early 90s and like many of Koei's games quickly rose to cult status. Since then, the franchise has been refined and the latest installment is Uncharted Waters IV, the game has been revolutionised since its early 2D SNES days. With each instalment, the graphics, character development, and gameplay is significantly improved and like the very first game in the series rose to cult status across Asia.

Uncharted Waters Online was released following the fourth single player version and has since been developed and improved through closed betas for about two years. Open beta's have just recently been released in China and Taiwan recently, while in Japan it has already finalized and operational for several years.

Voyage Century was developed by a Chinese company and has been operating free-to-play with item mall in China for at least 3 or so years (including betas).

The similarities between Voyage Century and Uncharted Waters Online is uncanny, they both have three classes, the Explorer, the Merchant and the Soldier/Warrior. The crafting system is identicle, each with seven of the same crafting profession, players gather raw materials from rural areas outside the town and require to purchase item blueprints to craft the items. In both games skill rank is increased by the number of times the skill is used, actively or passively and the character level determines the upgrade of ships. Furthermore, the whole notion of profession guilds and accepting missions from the guildmaster is a system both games employ. The maps and the cities are also the same, the names of the ships are almost exactly the same, the whole thing of the photograph revealing after an object is found are the same, even the very photos of the animals resemble and

I am not making allegations, but amount of similarities bordering on being identicial is ridiculous. If you have played both games, its not hard to miss, but my point is essentially, Voyage Online is a cheap rip off of a much better and much more ingenous game Uncharted Waters Online.

I was reading some posts regarding Voyage Century on this forum, and one person said that the game felt fishy. I think i understand the feeling he's having. The game feels like a cheap imitation, a home-made rip of a favourite artists's CD or a one of those pirated movies filmed in a Mexican cinema. The content is clearly there, but the quality, the authenticity and the overall experience is completely deficient.

This is quite evident within the game, it's not consistent, the transition between the 3D city-scape and the 2D poorly made sea-scape is awkward, and crude. The gameplay feels broken, like broken English, for example the four categories of objects to be discovered with natural objects, relics, historic ruins and 'sea-shells' seems like a piece ripped out of a complete treasure map. These 'fishy' feelings of imcoherence and incompleteness are not hard to find.

I often wondered why the developers didn't spend their time makign the sea-scape 3D, given that they made the ports 3D, its seems that a) either they lacked the technology know-hows of how to accurately re-create the 3D geography, given that most Chinese programmed MMORPGs were 2D, or b) it would take too long and clash with the eventual release of Uncharted Waters Online.

It's unfortunate that Uncharted Waters Online by KOEI is unlikely to be released in English, so meanwhile we have to put with this cheap poorly-made imitation, but to give an honest opinion, this game is just trash, and it wouldn't take people long to figure that out for themselves.

Regardless of this being a ripped off port what makes it so terrible? I think the blending of 3d and 2d is brillant, and the 3 different prespectives is a huge improvement to what MMORPGs have now. How is this baddly coded I haven't ran into any bugs since I tested it and it feels very polished. Animation wise it isn't up to par but its a hell of a lot of fun. And in the end isn't that all that matters? I could have said more but I already explained the greatness in another thread just like this, so you;d have to go there to read it since I don't want to double post or repeat myself.

Well first of all, going by the title of your thread, I thought it might be a mini review of why you don't injoy the game. So thats why I clicked on it while looking for people's opinions of the game to see if I'd really would want to play it or not.

But your thread is infact misleading. Should of called it, "I think Voyage Century is a rip off of Uncharted Waters Online". Or somthing along that. All you talk about is how you think the creators just ripped off another game to make it. But other then that you don't go into detail as to why you think it's a bad game.

And for those of us, like myself who have never played Uncharted Waters Online and probly never will since you said it's mostly likly not going to be released in the U.S., we don't really care if it's a copy of a game we'll most likly never play.

So give your opinion on the game play and why you don't like it, otherwise we don't care. I think this game looks pretty cool and I've always wanted to play a pirate MMO, so I might give it a shot.

Still gonna look around first though for better opinions on the game other then this. Now they just need to come out with a ancient japan MMO with Ninjas and Samurais as 2 of the character classes. That would be sweet.

The original Uncharted Waters was a great game.  I haven't played Voyage Online, but I am generally against games where the level of achievement is determined by purchasing top tier gear at an in-game item mall.  Since neither are a viable option to me, I'll simply wait for Pirates of the Burning Sea to be released, which I'm sure will make both look like what they are: cheap Oriental garbage.

I honestly tried to give this game a chance. But as soon as I logged on...i logged off like 20 min. later. Free to play means a crappy game sometimes. Like the above poster said just wait Pirates of the Burning Sea. It's a way better game in my opinion.

I Think this game is very good for what it is. Somthing diffrent then a grind.  Alot of items to go through and find ( and I havent even looked to see what the mall has cuse i dont relly care) Yha i thought the same the first time i loged in (wow this is crap) but then i loged in agen and got into it. Started trading and farming (real farming not for gold) and when i need to do real life things in the middle of my game play i just stop and go work in the bar well im afk wiche makes me ingame money and my wife is happy when she see's i have done somthing else then play video games all day

The thing that turned me off the first time i played was the walking. As soon as i got over that i fell in love with this game. I would say play it longer then 20 mins and leave the first city its alot less people if you have a bad computer and you lag a lot.

To sin, the item shop. It doesnt have any such crap like that in game. What it does have is high lvl stuff that high lvl players could win in the game, but availible for low lvl players. Ive also seen quick xp enhancing items to. None of that, "Oh, I have a lvl 80 Item Shop Sword, I can Pwn anyone!" stuff.

And to those who hated this, at least give a little insight into why you hate it so we cna better tell you how to actually enjoy it. This games garbage isnt going to help much at all. You have to play for a week+ to really get the feel for this game. After all your skills reach 10+, it also gets alot more exciting.

Dont just play the tutorial, Play for a week at least.
