    Thread getting silly now.

I and 8million other like WoW

U and 1-150,000 others like what ever MMO you play

Thats all that matters. , come up with ideas why WoW is so popular as much as you like it still does not justify your hate towards it.

Heres the explaination to all your questions: http://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/451OK.  THe lions are like Blizzard, they loook big and cool, but they don't actually do anything, they are fat and lazy.  The lionesses represent an imaginary company that makes good MMORPG's, lol cause right now there really aren't any, because althought they don't look pretty, they do all the work.

no your correct, WOW is the best MMO out there right now, i'm playing AOE III as i wait for a good MMO to come out, which probably won't happen for years, but WoW is definitly the best so far, and it sets an example which has two effects.  The bad one being, that future developers will follow WoW's lead and choke the user's abilities so that they may control the game, the good one being that future developers will see how to attract so many people, and by doing this create a more fun playing enviroment.
  • The average WOW player is in the mid 20's. The only reason there are more kids playing is because that there are more every age playing.

Depends on how you relate to those 7.999.999 players

WoW reinvented trolls and l33t behaviour.

Don't play a game just because 8 million ppl find it appealing, 750times that many dont like it or havent even heard about it.

Why not play better MMORPGs?  According to this webpage, MMORPGs like Eve Online, with less than 120,000 subcribers is the top rated MMORPG at the moment!  Or better yet, play Dark Age of Camelot and have fun trying to find low level people to quest with you since there's less than 110,000 subscribers!  Oh I know, play Final Fantasy XI Online.... 500,000 players!!!!  Over 350,000 of them are asian accounts though, so have fun with the 100,000+ or so North American players.  Oh OH!! What about Everquest 2??? Come on, you gotta play this game... less than 175,000 subscribers!  They even revamped the whole game and it plays just like WoW now!  Come on, 8 million players in WoW VS 175,000 players in EQ2, obvious EQ2 is better!

So come on!  Go play those MMORPGs!  World of Warcraft sucks!  8 million players worldwide?  Oh yeah, this game is horrible.  We all know the MMORPGs with less population are the MMORPGs to play, cause obviously when a MMORPG only has in between 100k to 500k players, it means it's a GREAT GAME TO PLAY!  Don't play a game where 8 million subcribers are playing, cause according to those that don't play WoW or never played WoW, this game sucks!

Oh well, that's all I wanted to say.  I'll go play World of Warcraft now with 8 million players now.   Obviously to some, I'm one of those 8 million players that are playing a "Sucky" MMORPG and I should be playing on a low population less popular MMORPG like Eve Online or Everquest 2 or something.

Gee, have some people ever thought for a second why WoW has 8 million players and other "top rated" MMORPGs on this webpage can't even get more than 200,000 players?
Because 7,845,450 are Farmers and Bots and the other 154,550 are Legit players.

And all those stats are based off LEGIT players. Farmers ect are not added.

Where do you get your numbers? The last info I was able to find was in www.mmogchart.com and that was last updated more than 6 months ago. Also the fact that a MMOG has 8 million subscribers doesnt make it better than one that has 200000. The way a movie that makes 400 million at the boxoffice isnt neccesarily better than one that does 80 . WoW is a great game that appeals to a very wide player base. Other games out there appeal to another part of the player commmunity , that look for something different. But really I am intrested in where you get your numbers. And what you mean by subscribers? Active ones or simply people that have once opened an account and play on and off. A lot of casual player play that way.

    WoW is easy..

    Blizzard are known..

no wait Blizzard are freaking gods..

they have the funds, they have the community, they have the ads, they have the story, they have the art, they have the names, they have the heroes, they had World of Warcraft before it was made and those were the best in the genres..

i wonder why so many love World of Warcraft? perhaps because they loved the other games and its based on it except its a mmorpg, also a very big chunk of those 8 million are playing their first mmorpg.. they will want more then the pointless grinding to items that the majority already have, they will want real pvp instead of the 30sec respawn grind fest, they will want more and atm it feels like alot will jump to the next train for the ultimate mmorpg like the veterans. once a good game is found, 2-3 years then on to the next one that offer more excitement, more realism, more freedom, and mroe challanges.. WoW players are idling for the next game to come, atleast the veterans, and the majority of wow players are new to mmorpgs and will eventualy jump too. the expansion will bring back many that left or played another game while they idle for the next game, just so they have something to do. i know i will play the expansion just to check it out but i know it wont keep me in there forever, i will try and enjoy myself aslong it lasts.

i started playing WoW at release, ive been playing alot of mmorpgs ever since UO, and the feeling was great, the experience was great, the game was awesome. when i was about 30ish we raided everywhere, there was pvp everywhere(pvp server ofc..) you were ganked all the time and you ganked all the time.

one day there was a guy that had a giant axe and some epix, he slaughtered and owned. majority of the lvl 60s had blue weapons, epic items wasnt very common at all.. and arcanite reaper realy owned  it was great..

what happened? well more and more started getting those items very fast, at the same time there were massive raids because it was possible to survive guards with teamwork etc. and better items gave better survivabillety, before you almost died right away entering stormwind/oggrimar even with groups, raids got worse and worse, servers lagged, more and more looked like clones with arcanite reapers and tier 1 sets. eventualy blizzard got fed up and nuked world pvp, added BGs, added impossible reward system to keep players busy for a long time.

what WoW is today is not the great game it once was, now its all about instancing and getting epix, it wasnt always like that, the first 3-4 months or whatever after release it was a great game that had everything, because of boredome and whine of players they added more and more grinding, blizzard does that it has happened before.. when the community whine they do the opposite, players whined about not having anything to do after 60, viola faction items popped up everywhere, dungeons that 30-35% have completed in over 2 years with items you have to have.

all i can realy say is,  it was great when everyone had blues and when there was action everywhere, it isnt great now when the action is moved to instancing and you hardly meet anyone except outside the BG npcs. i know some like grinding and i love grinding, lvling is the main fun in mmorpgs to me, adventuring and stuff, WoW realy had the potential for that with extremely good world, and detail/stuff to find everywhere. however they ruined it and moved everything to instances, the world is empty. i stopped playing like 6months ago but i can imagine its worse now then when i left and it was pretty bad.. so mutch grinding added as a direct cause of whine of the game being to easy, it did take 3-4 weeks then the leveling and exploring was over, all that was left besides epic mount and tier 1 has been added to buy time, keep players busy. they stuffed the ones that wanted more in instances and they grinded away happely month after month thinking it was fun..

EQ designers.. ofcourse.. the end game content team was lead by a raid leader from EQ(cant remember his name..), he did the end game content, the end game content you had to be 40 players for and grind grind grind  imo that was blizzards biggest mistake to hire some raid leader from a raid game to make dungeons in their game that i felt was realy designed for more then just raiding.. the world is empty man, great world made by hand painfully for years wasted because they needed to move players to other servers and keep them busy in pits. its cruel to the designers, its cruel to the players. so mutch time wasted and a good plan failed and they had to make timesinks, they massproduced them and the players kept playing them thinking it was ok to spend 2 months in a instance completely cut off from the mmorpg world, imho super instanced games should not earn a titel of a mmorpg, GW and D&D are not considered mmorpgs imo, WoW walks on the line, because they have a world but their not using it.

well now thats some history, but its alot to fit and alot missing.. point is, everyone jumps the train eventualy and when they figgure out that the time sink their grinding is extremely poor entertainement. they will want more like the rest of us and eventualy move on, when that day happens they will have grown ballz and feel good about themselves for wanting and demanding more...

if you quote all this your a lameass..

I've played 2 closed betas for WoW. Open beta. Played from launch and currently have TBC preordered. World of Warcraft only has 8 million subscribers because 8 million people don't want to LEARN a game. My friends and I whom I play with needed a healer for our groups so we gave another friend, who had no experience with WoW, a 60 priest and he picked up on it RIGHT AWAY. Of course he didn't know some things like "power infuse the mage right when we enter combat because it only lasts a few seconds" but after he used it he was good to go. World of Warcraft has 8 million subscribers because it's been dumbed down to the point that even your computer illiterate grandfather has a 60 toon in tier 2 gear. World of Warcraft has 8 million subscribers because 8 million people want things handed to them. 8 million people want "I Win" buttons. Take the recent changes for example. Feral Druids have a talent called "Mangle" This ONE ability replaces all of your damage dealing abilities while in cat form (except for finishing moves) I have a 60 Druid and I thought this was so lame. It's an I Win button for Druids. With the new PVP system there is NO REASON to get your lower rank PVP gear. Your Grand Marshal/High Warlord gear is barely more expensive. Things like that, make WoW a terrible game, for gamers (the majority of people who come to sites like this).

Games like EVE Online are rated "Top MMORPG" because they, simply put, are better. When you take a game like EVE Online which is VERY difficult for most to master, and you master it, there is a huge sense of gratification. Games who are developed by companies who are in it to make a GOOD GAME, not profits, are rated better than WoW because they are better. The developers put more time into making the game great rather than seeing what's the best ways to pull as many dollar bills in as they can.

WoW is a terrible game develped by some of the most intelligent, evil minds.

I used to play EVE Online but only one of my friends was in it as much as I was. And playing that game with just one other person isn't too fun. So that's the only reason I play WoW. It's more laid back and dumbed down enough so the other friends enjoy it. =O Don't tell them I said that!

WoW is the lower class mmorpg. for all of us that don’t play it we know we are better and can stick our noses up high and be happy we have the knowledge that our shit doesn’t stink.

True, Blizzard already had a fan base from their old games, and they had quite a few "die hard" fans.  But if it was a shit game, which isn't the case, then they probably would have left regardless if it was a "blizzard game".

I've played WoW since it was released, I even played beta for a bit.  I just recently quit playing World of Warcraft because it had a strong hold on my life and was starting to ruin it and the game was honestly starting to bore me, which will happen after playing a video game for 2 years straight, not playing anything other then a specific game, and I had a lot of free time as well.

For the past year I have been reaching out looking for other MMO's to see if any were any good to play as a substitute.  Games ranging from free MMO's such as Flyff, Rappelz, Graal Online; to paid MMO's such as EQ1, EQ2, FFXI, CoH/CoV, DAoC, Lineage 1 and 2, and just recently started playing Eve Online.

I can honestly say, that WoW is a stronger game in my opinion.  Although these other games certainly are appealing in a certain way, they all resemble the same thing... "grind, grind, grind, grind".  Not only that, but getting a few amount of abilities to start off / end with.  In WoW, every other level for the first 20 levels you get BRAND NEW skills, by the time you hit 60, you have 4-5 full bars of about 12 buttons each of different skills and such.  Other games, you get a very rare amount of new skills and it just seems like they don't have a very wide variety either.

WoW is essentially like every other MMO out there, it's all grind, that's pretty much what an MMORPG is.  You grind to get your character better gear, more powerful, and more customized.  But the thing that WoW does is it basically coats all that pain and suffering with a constant need to progress.  You don't have to go too far before you get some new item or new gear, or new levels.  The goals always seem "in reach".

Wow does the best job at hiding the fact that you are playing a MMORPG, that's why it's fun, that's why it seems "easy", they knew what their player base wanted and they supplied them with what they wanted.

I've broken away from the "you've only played WoW you have no idea" stereo type that most people have against WoW players, and I can tell you there's a very GOOD reason why people love and hate WoW, it's a great game and grabbed their player base well.

The whole idea of a hardcore player is just stupid.  That basically means you're willing to dump hours and hours into doing "work" and not having fun.  Being a hardcore player doesn't mean very much to me, and I would be considered a "hardcore player" by the definition.

WoW is good, flat out, IMO it's the best MMO out there currently and I've played all the big ones.

Blizzard did a very good job making a game that appealed to a broad amount of people. Low system requirements, good amount of content for casual players/  They had a big name company making the game that did not have a failure in the mmorpg industry yet, or a reputation. A lot of people enjoy the game and they can play it a little at a time or for hours. I know many people that the only reason they play WoW or any other mmorpg for that matter is because they have friends playing.

Me personally I moved around a lot and it was one way to keep in touch with friends in other states/countries. Quite a few people play online games for that purpose alone. If my friends didn't play WoW or EQ2 I would not be playing either game. Mainly because I don't have a ton of time anymore to experience all of the content and I'm content with playing other games.

EQ2 and WoW are both good games it just depends what do your friends and/or which game looks better on your system. Lets face it EQ2 if no on high settings looks like crap for they style they designed the game.

i just wish that everything could go a lot faster
i mean technologie , i would love to play a persistent world with 8 million people in the same map.
too bad not the computers or internet connection can hold that.
i would pay 50 a month to play a persistent single instance huge map with 8 million people playing at the same time.

count me in when we have that.

    LOL

(WoW has some strong points but  basicly its a grindfest )

I wonder why some people say "WOW is The BEST MMORPG/GAME/LIFEREPLACING/AIRSUBSTITUTE/ETC"

Hellloooooooo, wakey wakey, saying THAT doesnt MAKE IT SO. It's your opinion, but when you are a part of the "Matrix" of course everything there makes sence.

People who hate WoW are most likely just the type of people who always like to go against the majority. You know the people who use the words "poser" and go out of their way to not fit into a "trend" .. which is fine but they are bias.

Frankly I myself am kinda like that. I didn't like how World of Warcraft was so popular and everyone thought it could do no wrong. And that no other mmo could ever live up to it. I hate it when people don't give something else a chance. But under no circumstances does WoW suck. Maybe it's not for you. Maybe it's not for me. But it's a sold MMO and anyone who denies that is a just a wannabe hater in my opinion. And no I don't play WoW.

OP says, "World of  Warcraft sucks".  Ok, tell us something we don't know.

Why do you continue to write, "There are 8 million people playing WoW".   This is so wrong.  Once again, there have been that many if it's TRUE who HAVE PLAYED IT AT ONE TIME OR OTHER!!!!  Not all are playing it now, I mean can you really be that naive to think 7-8 million are playing this game at or around the same time more or less?

Personally, I don't believe for sec a game as crappy as WoW would be able to keep that many millions playing it continously and for the longest of times.  I mean, you have about that many who despise the game for one reason or other.  I admit many have played it but many have also left it.

  • d74046d74046 Member Posts: 10

many have left it it is true.. many are idling it, once the expansion comes it will peak again i believe, but when a new game comes out like AOC it will be swamped... its good and bad blizzard made WoW, they pulled a huge amount of new players onto the market, bad thing is when they start looking for new games like alot of oldies do once htye get enough new games will be completely swamped...

its not a good thing... lag lag lag : they invest tons on network and servers, 600 shards again etc etc.. could ruin quite alot of mmorpgs comming with this mass migration stuff.. not every mmorpg dev has the finance to support a mass migration.. its a real problem, so stay with WoW and be happy so i dont have to lag as mutch in other games heheheh

ok on the note of ppl saying wow sux let me rant just a little about that lol and yes this will be entertaining so sit back and laugh if you feel the need......

well EVE and EQ2 and games like them have been around for awhile now and yet the one thing I can say is yes WoW does get reptative and sometimes boreing and frustrateing this is true. However  blizzard has hit on the idea of makeing the game simple but not to easy or hard to play. I've seen 13 year olds learn WoW faster then they could pong lol. I like the fact that theres no xp debt, other MMORPG's have some sort of xp debt which gets so frustrateing it could kill you. I mean xp debt sux concidering when in a pvp server you kill some stuff, finish a quest, go kill more, lvl up. Then it starts, you sitting there trying to get a grp together and decide you need a bathroom break so you go do that well while your there(basicly your charictor is afk or also takieng this break with you)some jerk wad comes along and decides to bash the door in on ya like hes the terminator looking for john connor, then proceedes to kick you around like hes Jet Li in an action movie. You come back to find you little friend laying on the ground like he had a hernia and died and your left confused but now you get mad cause you have a debt to pay off before you lvl again. So you go repair your armor and head back out, you start getting the debt paid when suddenly he shows up again and whacks you updside the head with a stick because he thinks its hillarious to see you do  a faceplant into a tightly coiled pile of dog crap then proceedes like the school bully to laugh in your face causeing you to loose your cool and wish that you could grab him through the computer and bash his head on his keyboard. So you make a goal to get high enuff lvl to smack him around but when you finnaly do you feel better but now your bored and your life goal at that point is finished.

I love MMORPG's in general but wow seems to have a better thing because they give you a choice and dont punish you for getting whacked around. other games make you feel like dirt when this guy who thinks he rules cause he can kill you so easily (note: he is high lvl and your still getting to lvl 20) and is totaly unfair. so to conclude yes other MMORPG's might be better its all in personal preference of how you like to play and what you like. So instead of bashing one game cause you play another and dont like the one well so what thats your opinion everyone has one and none are always the same. Pick a game play it if ya like it then there ya go stop running around trying to suck up to the game you play by bashing one. its anoying pointless and...well come on its a waste of time.

well.....unless you can make it so dam hillarious that ppl read it and wet themselves. which is always fun. so as i said everyone is different and play different so just stick with what ya know.

i can't be the only person who loves killing hundreds of monsters solo.  screw playing online poker sites.  i want to loot that critter 2 levels above me and see what i won. people 'peek' and wish their character was 10-20 levels higher so they can do something they haven't earned yet or haven't won the uber item quickly enough.

hardly ever do dungeons cuz i'm uncooderated as hell and group members biatch. don't pvp. mostly greens with a blue or 2.  happy as hell- played every class and almost every race to at least 30 along with all the professions.  the storyline is interesting if you bother to read it.

And, World of Warcraft is (correct me if i'm wrong) more mainstream than hardcore. And I also think that there are more mainstream than hardcore gamers.

The reason why I play World of Warcraft instead of another MMO is that I simply love Warcraft and Diablo. And World of Warcraft is the perfect mix, with a nice online twist. Just as I like it... and with me 8 million people.
