I would recommend D&D Online however its not like most MMO's. No large world to explore. Personally I loved it.
The game is based in a city which is filled with dungeons (instances). Find a group, jump into a dungeon, play - repeat. There is no traveling for 20-50 min just to get a dungeon played.
Also guilds will accept you. No form, applications needed. Character system is, in my opinion, detailed and fun. You can mix class's like wizards and fighters etc if thats what you want. The player community is much higher then most. Everyone seems to be 26yo or more.
Leveling is more compact so you wont find a need to go all the way to level 60. Max level is 12. I find it allowed me to keep playing with friends even though they play more them myself.
You can purchase this game pretty cheap these days too. I think Amazon.com is selling it cheaper.
If I had to say what problems DDO has, well, maybe content. Its not an MMO you can't play for a long, long time if your a powergamer. Also its not a pvp game even though it does have some battleground type area's. Also you will need to get to level 3+ to really get the feel of the game. It starts off pretty easy.
Anway, thats my 2 cents.

That's exactly what I've been moaning to myself for months, so I feel obliged to offer my 2 cents (plus I'd like a point so I can hype). My distress, however, might be of a different nature. Of course, you didn't offer much background, so there's no telling.
Waiting for WAR is brutal. I feel 98% sure it will fulfill my requirements for my next MMO, which are far too extensive to include in this post. I burnt out on WOW about a year ago, or longer. Not sure, but it was for real -- gave away plat, purples etc. Kinda like dumping my UO house after the split. Since then, it's been a hodgepodge of demos. Not DDO unfortunately, but I could tell it wasn't my game. I want a world in which to live, wander the woods alone, watch my back quite often (paranoia is good), team up with some good folk when I meet them, spend an evening sharpening blades, memorizing spells or just freaking fishing if I feel like it. Interior design is pushing it though. Draw the line somewhere -- we're not looking for the sims. I got a lot riding on WAR.
There are a lot of options in the meanwhile of course. If you've never tried EVE, go see what the hype's about. I still miss my cruiser and the fine scenery kicking though its viewport. I tagged along with a ragtag guild back then, mostly German, but good shooters.
Back to DAOC -- thank goodness for classic servers, but I've never been good at backtracking. Half my old guild is still there though -- it's been years, but they're still all there, still hating each other (the other realms) like the early days. Slainte!
Um, I have no point, I guess. Muds are good. They are free and meet your minimum requirements, all of which are up to you. Try Duris: Land of Bloodlust. Wait for WAR. Then, go Empire. My blade thirsts.
Having trouble myself mate. Played alot of the mmos, but I can never rest on just one anymore. Had high hope for VG, but at the time being, I can't tell if it's my mmo or not. I need a game casual friendly, but yet good depth. I might just stick with UO like I have been for years now...hell, I dunno. Maybe I'll give the DDO trial a swing.

Many ppl have trouble but i think guildwars is the best game i ever tried, but the thing is
its not a MMO while most ppl think it is the reason its not its because the cities act as lobbies and once u go venture out ur only with ur party. So i'm trying to find a MMO but all the ones i tried are all inferior to guildwars. And WOW has monthly fee.
well, to be honest...WoW isn't much different than GW. All it has extra compared to GW would be crafting and a non instance world. Beside that, nothing. I liked GW alot better than wow to be honest. My GF enjoys wow, but she doesn't know better
I was trying to do the DDO trial, but it won't let me download the stupid client, so i dunno what to do. I'm in the same boat as you buddy.
