Our brains are strong and maby capable of creating the experience as a form of "lucid dream". See when you go to sleep every night and right before the human body dies and in your case died and was revived science has discovered a chemical called DMT (dimethyltryptamine) which is secreted by the pineal gland in the center of your brain gets pumped in huge ammounts right at those first moments or REM sleep or right before death. DMT has been used by shamans for centuries and recently books and studies have been done that all seem to point towards this pineal gland DMT as being the cause of NDE's and dreams but since I have never experienced a NDE I cant say for certain what goes on but from what science says its just the brain doing what it can to hold on the the preception of existence.

Stay away from DMT..... Thats some crazy ass shit.... trust me

Trust me I know lol, sends your ass to another dimension! Salvia A 20x extract is close but DMT is the supreme shamanic experience.

I know I cant prove to anyone that I saw them...but I did.

But like I said, I cant prove it and you cant prove your statement.

My Proof that Ghosts Don't Exist, by Tetsul

One day someone like me would die, who wouldn't wander around moping about being dead but would use it to scare the living bajesus out of random people. So until I see stories of ghosts that go along the lines of "I woke up late at night to go to the bathroom. When I got in there I looked over at the mirror AND A GLOWING UNDEAD DEMON THING WITH FANGS JUMPED OUT OF IT TOWARDS ME SCREAMING "BLEBALAHLALALA" THEN FLOATED AWAY LAUGHING HIS FOOL HEAD OFF" I have to say there are no ghosts.

But while I was being taken out of the ambulance at the hospital I died.

They said I was dead for almost a minute and they had to work to  bring me back.

I've got to share another thing with you guys too.  I had an experience while I was dead.  I remember it more than I can remember things that have happened to me right here.  It was the most awesome thing I have ever felt.  You guys are going to think I'm crazy but I was there, I was at the end.

I don't know what else to say.  I can't type much because my fingers on my right hand are all stoved up and my back hurts.  But I just wanted to share it.

It's real guys.  I promise.  I don't know how to describe it to make anyone believe, but it's there and it's real.  And I don't mind having to go back someday.  It's awesome.
glad you're ok reavo.  when you are feeling better maybe you can come back and post more about your experience.

i believe your experiences are very real to you.  however i also understand the mind is a very complex thing.

people who've gone days without sleep often report  visual and auditory hallucinations...I can only imagine what a brain cut off from oxygen is capable of.

anyway, get well soon and hope to see you back.

When you're on the brink of death, your body releases a flood of hormones to comfort and soothe you, this is what's known as 'the white light at the end of a tunnel' scenario.

And btw, glad you're okay. :D

Well, it's been a while. Interesting thread, reavo. I noticed that you were open-minded to a higher power before this experience, and I'm glad that you probably still are. This is why I believe in a resurrection; because it happens already in some form. But my particular beliefs tell me that when you die, you remain dead until a full resurrection. What happens to your consciousness at death or to you, yourself, before this resurrection I do not know. Nor do I know what to believe. Since you probably weren't a Christian, I'm a little relieved that you're better now. Here's your second chance.  Every year from now on is a bonus.  Good to have you back even if we haven't seen eye-to-eye.

OK, this has got me thinking. So the pineal gland  releases DMT into body the at the point of death (separate from endorphins the body produces to protect itself from shock). DMT produces either out-of-body experiences or other worldy experiences, or in the case of death, commonly the tunnel experience (NDEs differ somewhat from the reported effects of just taking DMT).

From a biological point of view, what could possibly be the function of producing such an experience?

How would such a function evolve, when it happens on death?

Hope your recovery goes quick my friend.

As far as your experience?  Two things.  Chemicals in your brain or a spiritual experience.

    We will never know.

I'm glad to hear that you're still with us. I hope you heal from your injuries very quickly. I hope what you said about your near-death experience is true. I always hoped that the afterlife is what ever or where ever your heart truely wants it to be. If you want to be in Middle-earth, your there. If it's the Star Trek or Star Wars universe...you're there. If it's just a place to find peace, you got it until the end of time. I don't know if it works that way but one can always hope!

Well death didn't happen here, did it? His life functions died but he didn't. My guess is to induce some kind of hibernative trancelike state to prolong life.

Also the connotations on the words you use are occult. How about using delusional or hallucinating? An out-of-body experience is commonplace in dreams and drug use alike. I've had the tunnel thing as a dream quite a few times, it's just that my mind starts throwing in (into the dream) other stuff as well since it's got enough oxygen, glucose and whatnot.

Anyways. Try not to bring in the sentimentality. It doesn't necessarily fit the context.

"Hallucinatory" might have fit, not sure about "dellusional". Perhaps I should have included "what people describe as" those kind of experiences which is actually mostly the evidence we have of the effects of DMT. There's no intention of implying any sentimentality. Anyway,  is there any evidence that this prolongs life? To my knowledge, without medical assistance, most people wouldn't come back once they get to that point. So how did such a function evolve?

So Reavo is an undead now :)

anyway, i never truly believed in all those visions in NDE experiences (although i do believe in an afterlife). technically, your barin is not dead in NDE experiences because there is still oxygen in it, therefore i conclude NDE experiences are just a trick of the brain.
