Can I run this game?

After 6 years of EQ and trying EQ2 I have been looking for a new mmo and I would love for this to be it. Unfortunately I'm not sure my system will be able to play it at an enjoyable level. Please let me know your thoughts...

Pentium 2.8ghz

1gb ram (cannot upgrade on my mother board)

Radeon x800 Pro (256mb)

I'm not sure what kind of ram it is (ddr, etc.). I don't mind paying $50 to see if I like a game and be able to try it... but not if I cannot even run it.

Thanks in advance!!!

There is diferent oppinions. And the game seems to perform diferently under various settings.

I can only tell you that on my system that is slightly lower than yours ( x700)

I am able to pull 14-25 fps (20 would be average) .So playable and it looks very good.

I have tested this only in starting areas - so around 10-20 players on screen. So i am not all sure if some other parts of the game

    are unplayable.

People have differing tolerance levels. My system is quite a bit worse that yours but I can still play on what I think are acceptable settings, at the moment. In a dungeon with 25 other people though or in a city it's another matter. I'm not running on lowesrt settings, I just can't it woul be like going back 6 years but with your machine I'd definately give it a go.

Get 2 Gigs of Ram-aka a new computer if you can't go higher then 1 gig

Thanks everyone for your insight. Obviously I'm not going out to buy a new gaming PC today just to play Vanguard which is why I asked if the 1 gig ram would be enough.

No idea about your graphics cards quality.

I've got a a P4 2.5 Ghz with 1GB of ram and a Geforce 6600GT . I've defraged, tweaked and run a tight ship PC-wise. It's acceptable for beta and low level. Whether it can cope with housing, ships and flying mounts? I doubt it

Ouch, there is no way you're going to be able to run Vanguard, probably not even on the lowest settings...  You really would need an entirely new computer with much more up-to-date gaming hardware...  Sorry...  You could always just go to a friend's house and install it on their gaming machine though to try it out...  Usually people know at least SOMEONE with a good computer...  (Although this depends on whether you live in the country or not I suppose)

As Rattraps quite happy with the 15-25fps, im not. I get around the same but it tends to dip to about 5fps in towns. For me this is unacceptable. Its all opinion.

I would recommend upgrading your ram to 2gb.

I would recommend upgrading your ram to 2gb. Again, my mobo cannot be upgraded to 2gb. :(

Would someone please be so kind to reply to my post? I think everyone just skipped right over this one, because you all answered someone elses after mine. I'm debating on whether or not I should wait to buy it or not, but that depends on whether I can run it or not with my new PC. Thanks.

My PC spec is quoted above.

it's not that expensive to upgrade ram ddr1, you could probly get 2 gigs for 200CDN and for 300CDN you can get 2 gigs ddr2 600
  • got2killgot2kill Member Posts: 35

GET AN ATHLON 68x4000 or above

    i got that processor

    nvidia geforce 7800 GT

    2gig ram

Havn't found a game that lags it

You should be able to, but, remember, it has a 17 gig installer, and final full program is around 23 gigs, so, need lots of HD space

It's pretty expensive to upgrade ram if your mobo cant take more than 1gig and your case cant fit a new mobo.

I did some research , and in 99% of game hardware testing i seen that diference between 1gig of ram and 2 gig of ram was minute.

So what makes you think vanguard benefits so much in fps from 2 gig ram ?

    I have 1 gig ram.

And can consider one of the two (with my budget)

    Buying 1 gig ram

or buying killer gfx card ?

I think you will run it fine my specs are the same but have 2 gig of ram running Great !

    Actually

Yesterday i played with settings again. And started getting 14 fps all the time.

I know it is not perfect. But I dont know. Somehow I didnt have a big issue with it.

What puts me of is the lag spikes from loading. You can be running good, and than suddenly everything freezes , because HD is loading bunch of new things. And this happens all the time.

I guess 2 gig ram , is the cure for that.

All in all , i can say - the game performs same (and bit heavier) as EQ2 before the EOF optimisation.

However this is not satisfactory. I feel that my computer is still good to go withouth costly upgrades.

And i am not intending to upgrade it, just so i could play one specific game.

The only difference i found between 1 and 2 gig was the loading times were faster and i didnt have to restart as often with the memory leak. Didnt make a blind bit iof difference to the fps.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

This is not true, friend of mine came over with his PC for a lan and I popped his 2ghz DDR2 in, boosted my Vanguard FPS by 10 and made it MUCH more stable in towns.

Having a sound card will also boost your FPS by alot, as I see it turning your sound off gives you 10 fps.

As for the graphics card, having my effects on full or low made very little difference to FPS for me. Using a 7800 GTX.
