Hello ppl,
I am posting to ask a few questions about the perfomance. I am really interested in this game and I am willing to pre order it to start early and all, but I am worried about it not being playable on my PC.
That's really the only issue I have, I am running on a P4 3.2 with 2gig RAM and a 7800GT (PCi-e 16x), and while my PC is not really stellar by current hardware standards, I think it's a decent rig for games. I mean, it can keep its ground with the max settings in Oblivion.
I am not too demanding, but I would expect a good 20fps on average to enjoy the game.
Is there hope, because I really hate WoW and don't know of any other alternative MMOs.
Thnx for your time.

I know about the issues the game has atm, I've been reading up on it on the forums.
If it's playable on my rig I am willing to give it a try.
Vanguard is currently in open beta and will be released 30 of january.
Try it out and you wont regret it.

Quests can easily be compared with wow quests just to get an idea
Excellent music
On the other hand
Currently has a lot of bugs
PvP is not ironed out yet
You need a really good system to run it well(yours will do the job easily)

I agree you'll be fine running the game. You may not be able to run it at max settings but very few people can anyways. It really is a beautiful game and it should still look great after you tweak it to get it running smoothly on your system. There are a few guides both in the forum here (there's a tweak guide stickied at the top) and also a great guide over at TenTonHammer that can help you get the most out of your system for the game.
You should easily be able to get 20fps+ just about everywhere in the game if you get your settings right.
Look forward to seeing you in Telon!

I've pre-ordered and downloading the beta now.
See you ingame.
You're not going to get good performance and in some areas you're going to dip down into the low teens. The game will be playable especially away from the heavily peopled areas. I'd recommend waiting a month or two after release to see how the game fares, if it fares well they will upgrade the graphics engine to be a bit less performance intensive, if it does poorly they may or may not depending on what they view as the factor they're not doing well because of.
Edit: That being said, I don't personally consider 20fps avg to be playable, it gives me a headache just like a refresh below 75hz. Shrug. 35ish is about the lowest I consider playable and you won't get that on average.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

I'm in the same boat worried about performance of this game with my current set-up. My computer is on the low end of things. Here are the specs:
P4 2.26, 1 GB RAM, GeForce FX 5500 256 MB RAM
I've already pre-ordered the Vanguard D2D and started playing the beta. Even after making all the tweaks to the .ini file as prescribed in some of the forum posts, running it at the Highest Performance setting, and defragging my hard drive my computer crawls even during the character creation screen.
Am I screwed or can I hope that the performance will improve when the game is released? Also, is there anything I can do to further improve the game's performance?
I'd really like to play this game but as it is, the performance on my machine is way too choppy to consider subscribing to it. I'm probably out 50 bucks, but if there's some way I can make this game run on my current set-up, I'd be more than happy to cough up the subscription fee.

You're suffering because:
1. Your processor is on the cusp of being too slow.
2. You could really stand to have more RAM, especially if it's just DDR1.
3. Your video card is terribly out-dated for this type of game.
I'm really not trying to be insulting at all, I just wanted to give you the reasons why you're going to have terrible performance issues. Personally, I would say it's time for a new machine. Just sell yours on E-bay, add a few hundred dollars, and get yourself a new box (Best Buy gets some sweet deals on their machines lately, and all you need with most of them is a good video card).

Thanks for the honesty. Yeah, I was afraid my system was too crappy to play Vanguard. However, when I purchased the pre-order, I was going by the Vanguard web-site's FAQ about how the design team wanted the game to be playable on even low-end systems. The minimum requirements they posited in the FAQ fell a little under my current system spec, so I figured running the game would be alright, even if I couldn't run it at anywhere near the highest settings. As is though, I can't even run it at the lowest graphical settings.
Crap. Hopefully, the engine will be optimized enough sometime after release that I can play it. In hindsight, I should've waited until a few months after release. At least the retail price of the game would've come down by then. Guess I jumped the gun because I was so bored with the current crop of MMORPGs out there. Live and learn.

Dosas,
Your system looks almost identical to mine and I was playing for about 4 hours last night between 20 - 40 fps depending on where I was. I was even running at a cool 60fps in one of the smaller cave area's for a while.
One thing I can't stress enough for people is to first log into the game and turn the settings up to the highest it will let you in the drop down list then, use Morts tweak guide to get better performance. Here's why, in the game there are no options for changing texture quality, there is just one general performance drop down list. Choosing the different settings will select different quality of textures so, choose the highest quality setting so that you've got nice texture loading (note: even the highest quality settings doesn't select the highest quality textures) then go and modify all vgclient.ini so that all the other settings aside from the texture settings are set to ballanced or lower. And honestly, the other settings set on ballanced vs. high quality don't really make that much difference. Alternatively you can try this, log into the game, set thte performance to ballanced and then manually adjust the texture settings in the ini (another note: the lower the number in the texture setting the better, i.e. 0 is best, 7 is worst).

I have an amd 4200 x2 2 gigs of 6400 ddr2 800 and a geforce 8800 gts 640meg card
With this set up I can run vanguard on max settings and get 20 - 25 fps with clipping out.
Only issue is in certain areas I get some rather heavy frame hits (usually with structures, not casting, or tons of leaves etc) Dropped it to the second highest setting and getting 30 - 35 with 1600 x 1200
Look at my post with the video to see max setting performance.
I'm still thinking I might want to get a second card and link them though... Does the game use all 2GB or would 4GB help?
Maybe 1024x768 will be more manageable for that video card...
pkh77,
As I was saying to the OP, i've got the same video card you do and, after tweaking the ini like i discussed above I'm pretty happy with my performance, this morning i've been getting 20 - 24fps in citys (of course with the occasional 5fps and hitching when entering a building) and 30 - 40fps in most forest areas and 50ish in very secluded confined areas. I'm running at 1680 x 1050. Good luck.
general,
Defrag, run morts tweaks, run any other tweaks you can find, etc... it all helps. The tweaks et al. aren't an answer to the general performance problems, they are a bandaid but it's a pretty soothing bandaid for now. With the rate that Sigil is patching it will be interesting to see what kind of performance upgrades we are getting by end of next week. I'm happy as it is but I know a lot of people aren't. Cross you're fingers.
