VSOH not a bad game

I have been playing WOW for about 2 years now and was getting bored with it.  I do not consider myself a hardcore player but after playing the better the beta, I really enjoyed this game.  It has a lot to do for for many types of players out there.  I already pre-ordered the game and looking forward to all the crafting.  I know the game has many bugs right now, a little sluggish but I am sure it will be close to being a good running game in a couple of months.  The only thing now is to have everybody start using the chat channels in stead of shouting in the game.  I had to turn it off due to it being annoying to me.  The game is not for everyone.  IF you do not like it do not play it.  Simple as that.  I do not have a top of the line CPU.  I am running the game on a laptop with specs of 3.4G P4ht with 2G of ram and a ATI x600 256mb graphic card.  It runs alright.  If anybody has any ideas to make it run better with what i have please let me know.  I am running resolution of 1680 * 1050 and runs k.  Anyways this is my first post.  Peace out and enjoy your game of choice.

Agreed a lot of bugs but it has what it gets to be a success in the demanding field of mmorpgs.

How wrong could the creators of eq1 go?

    Hi mate,

Noticed your specs and im running it exactly the same rig as yourself (hp pavillion notebook 8398) but its kinda running very sluggish for me and ive knocked the res to 1024. Its the x600 thats causing the problem cis its an ffin awful video card.

Well have to compare notes on how u got it configured.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

Any game would seem fun after playing World of Warcraft for 2 years

On a less cynical note - Vanguard looks promising, but it really needs to fix performance issues. For what the graphics are, they shouldnt be running so sluggish. Hell my computer can run Oblivion at max on  60+ fps and still struggles with Vanguard. Yet I would consider Oblivion to have way more detailed graphics.

Also the low levels need to be... well more fun. Its like what EQ2 used to be before they revamped the newbie experience. You need to hook players from the very start.

I think part of the problem is that they started to make a world, not a game.

Then at some point, tried to change it into a game.

Now it is not sure what it wants to be, and is suffering because of it.

Not true.  After I retired from WoW I tried many different games, and none seemed as enjoyable as WoW was.  WoW has a weird ability to make the most tedious task seem fun.  Maybe I had a better guild and friends in game than the people who whine about it.

I think you have a good point here.  It's a very nice fantasy world.  It's vast, and has some very nice scenery and towns, etc.  But it has no "life" to it, and there is no ongoing story to be a part of.  The world is just full of randomly placed fields of creatures (i.e. giant moths in the villages, or randomly placed pseudo-chickens).  It's like they just made a big virtual world and propped it up with an experience chart and a few "kill quests".  And the PvP is the most contrived of all.  They clearly never intended for it to be part of the plan, but as they realized it was of importance to so many potential customers, they sought to add it to their plan.  It was only within the last month that they propped up their open PvP servers, where it means nothing to kill a player other than the fact that you did it.  No rewards, no purpose...  The depth of the game is nothing more than an afterthought.
