"Free Trial"

SharazarSharazar Member UncommonPosts: 6
Played a lot of AD&D when I was younger still play rpg's on the PC when time allows and thought I'd check out the "Free"  trial to see if this was something worth spending money on. Why the quotes? My definition of free doesn't include being forced to subscribe to fileplanet in order to download the client software. Wizards of the coast TSR or whoever owns the rights to D&D nowadays, that's pathetic. At least EQ2's 14 day free trial really is free.

I played the trial without paying for anything, try looking for the trial somewhere else

If you're downloading from fileplanet, you have to scroll  to the second set of servers with "wait time" listed to download for free. The way it is set up is sort of misleading, and makes it look like you have to subscribe when you don't actually have to. I just went there to check, and a free membership is enough to let you DL the DDO trial.

    Hope that helps. *shrug*

You can download the Free trial from the site. Just keep making different emails.

Be aware you will NOT SEE THE GAME IN IT"S FULL GLORY as the higher resolutions/textures/graphics etc are NOT ON THE TRIAL!

(Though I do think they should be!)

Shame some have not seen it in it's full glory!

You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.

I did download from another location after googling a bit. But my point was that both the link from this site and from DDO's website link to a site that then says you have to pay to download. Misleading and irritating, I'm not the world's greatest fan of hidden advertising.

On the front page at DDO.com is this link to the free download. I found nothing misleading.

Scroll DOWN untill you see thre free public servers.

It doesn't say you have to pay ANYWHERE.

You have to be kidding me! Why would the tone down the graphics settings on a trial to try and pull in more subscribers? Some people thrive on graphics alone and will buy a game! Anyways I was thinking about giving this game another shot, since I havent tried it since closed beta. BUT now that I know I wont get to see what the game actually "can" look like I'm not going to waste my time.

    Stupid idea!

Ah but then you would probably complain how big the download is then with the high-res textures included. What to do?

They should have to versions to download, but those high-res textures do take a hit on performance on lower end machines.

Was gona give DDO a try.. BUT as always Filplanet is sharing corrupted files.

I had to buy a new copie of lineage 2 C5 just to get the install CD's cause 4 failed attempts from fileplanet was enough.

now i tryed again with DDO and same bloody thing happens... after it finally is downloaded and i try to run the file it says its not executable/corrupted.

I would be glad if MMORPG.com choosed someone else from which to get free trials :/

or am i the only one getting this?

Which directs you to fileplanet via the DDO site?

I have to apologize for the way my post above was worded. That was uncalled for on my part.

I downloaded direct from that link, and I just retried it, and it never took me to fileplanet, so i don't know what is up with that.

LMAO you don't need to pay for anything, if your that stupid then i guess thats your own fault.  Its very easy to get it without signing up for anything at all

wel before the game wasn't much but now i would say it is bette then it was. That is shy of the bad things they are going to be doing now

I tried downloading twice.  Once was with Spamplanet and a download enhancer.  After several hours each time, all I get is corrupt files.  It doesn't look worthy of a third attempt anyway.
