Well, I'm pretty sure they're still working on it, since I start my GM training today. :)

Well good to hear that they are still in business, though Heros website could use a heavy makeover..

Yay,  it is good to hear. Last I heard  some of the staff were working like slaves with little or no pay.

Usually dead games aren't in the process of hiring/training new employees.

The official simu forums seem pretty active to me.  Not a lot of info, but lots of staff postings, at least.

Recruiting kids off message boards, calling them GMs and having them work for free is hardly that.

If they are doing work... then what is the difference. I also can't say I've ever seen them do any recruiting on these nor any other forums. Not to mention that the interview process is rather long and extensive. So its not like they are taking anyone who applies. please keep your ignorance to yourself in the future.

Not only that but the application process is very long and strict and can take up to 6 months. Please read up on some actual facts so as to avoid coming off as incredibly ignorant.

    >>Recruiting kids off message boards, calling them GMs and having them work for free is hardly that.<<

I think you may be misinformed.  I didn't get recruited off a message board.  I submitted a resume, a cover letter, a portfolio with samples of my work, etc.  I had an interview. It was a real job application.  I signed an employment contract with Simutronics and an NDA.  Most of the offsites I work with are professionals in some way or another, either in programming, development, or some technical field.  I even have a college degree!  Ooooh!!

The general agreement was when HJ makes money, we make money from it, until then, I get to work in the games industry, and while it is volunteer work, it's better than sitting around watching tv.  Heck, I didn't apply for the prospect of making money at all.  Even if I start getting paychecks, it's not about that.   It's just being involved with something I like.  Besides, there are other perks. If I'm needed (and can make it), I get to go to conventions and shows (E3, GDC, etc).  Also, the offsite GM pool is an ideal recruiting point for onsite GM and developer positions at the St. Charles office for Simutronics.  One of my pals has already moved onsite for a paying job with simutronics.  It's true!  People get paid!

Maybe working as a volunteer to get your foot in the door of a very competitive industry seems asinine to you... but it's a lot of a fun and most of us enjoy it.  It's a great way to get involved without the all the real life risks associated with moving to a new city or state and not making the cut and then wondering what to do.  For those of us with families, it's a great way to live that dream and still make responsible choices for our daily lives.

No knock on you at all.  I think in your industry more than any other you have to start your resume somewhere and if it means putting in free time at least you are building on a blank page.

Dont mind Amathe - he is just annoyed because everyone is telling him how stupid his vaporware thread is. So he needs to keep pushing his prophecy of doom in the hope that it will come true and he wont have to apologize.

Really? I guess you missed the posts in that thread from people who worked there validating my concerns, and you especially missed this post in that thread from a HJ dev:

"it's a very valid concern you have that the game simply will not ship."

How much clearer do they have to make it for you?

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Well, I'll offer my "opinion." Hero's Journey is not vaporware. Now, I might be biased, but getting to work with it every day, I can see clearly it is not "vapor." Yes, it's been delayed in light of engine advancement and sale, which is frustrating for me and my offsite brethren, but it is necessary for the project

From the same person - and there is a big difference between expressing a concern and pushing something as a fact which is what you were doing.

I think you made your point quite well with the other thread.

However the 'its dead posts' in other threads - I.M.O are pushing it too far. BUt its a free world so post away.

Hrm, I got taken a little out of context there, didn't I?  I gotta watch for that I guess. ;)
  • _Shadowmage_Shadowmage Member Posts: 1,459

Absolutely - we will pick apart any posts made by anyone with HJ- in their name and take the bits that support our arguments and ignore any contradictory information provided.

So stop reading this and get back to work - we want to play the game, and you want to get paid :)
