OMG well ofcourse!! that makes SOO much  sense... because you know..... because Rap is the only type of music that thinks they are tough... You know I never ever felt that way when lisnin to heavy metal or thrash metal or screamo...

I should have known that a term like straight up G' DOG means the downfall of the USA... because you know... no other music has any sayings or phrases.... Yup...

I feel so much smarter now that I know if rappers didn't exist the world would be a better place..

I am certainly no fan of Rap, Hip-Hop, or R & B. These 3 types of music actually fall in some of my  least favorite musical genres, however, I do not believe for a second that it is ruining our country any more so than that of Country, Rock, or Pop and their subsidiary off-shoots.

Rap is a style of music that only further enhances our culture. However the most public and popular rap is what some call "gangsta rap". This is the style that typically is derogatory, and crude. However, this is not the majority of rap. Rap is nothing more than Rhythmic Accentuated Poetry, and there are hundreds of thousands of songs and verses out there that praise and influence positively millions of people in our society.

I shudder to think of a world without this influence.

The kind of comparison you are doing with gangsta rap = all other rap, is pretty much the same if I were to say that skin-head metal = all other rock. Its just not a fair comparison, and many holes are left out of the equation.

    Eternally mine,
    Keebs

unlikely, though it does give a place for a brand of idiots to go... kinda like a MMO

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Such a iggnorant idiot. This is nothing but flame bait. I'm not going to say nothing, becuase when it comes to somthing that a person dosen't like, they don't tend to listen. No one wants to learn yet they want to judge. Music don't ruin anything, it creates. If your worried about a music genre ruining the U.S. I wonder what else goes on in your mind concerning more important things such as politics and your own life (and relationships).

Is rap ruining the US? no

Is the attitude among our youth that makes Rap and rap artists so popular ruining the US? yes

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

When it comes to rap, it's usually out to the hoods, yet it's for the world in a way. I can't really say, but overall music changes people. People lovin that emo music, may be using black makup and making weird pictures. Country lovers would wear big hats. Metal heads would...umm somthin. Yet Rock and Rap, those are the two where you can customize in many ways. Usually the people who rap are tough and came from a tough neibhorhood. They are not faking yet there are posers out there.

I used to really like ganster rap... but going back to MC Eiht and early Dr Dre etc...

These days its all so damn samey its almost imposible to tell who is who... and when Snoop started to basically sing with anyone who paid enough... I lost a lot of respect.

Now I just dont listen to it at all really. I think it has had its day and when people like Justin Timberlake are regarded as rappers.... well the whole thing has lost the plot...

As for whether its ruining the US.... lawl...... Rap is the least of its problems.

I don't see a lot of creativity in gangster rap anymore. Who said Justin Timberlake is rapper? He's a pop artist.

The most I can say is that some rap can make violence look like fun. Other then that, not really, no.

To bad I like Lil'Kim type rap, which mentions more sex in one song then Akon's whole albulm.

This reminds me of when I was at the mall earlier.

Attention all lame white dudes walking around with your hat backwards and pants droopy and big chains around your neck....If you lived in the suburbs your entire life and your parents own a house worth more than 200k you did not grow up in the ghetto. If your parents bought you your first car you are hardcore.

No matter how many times you watch Scarface you are still  a lame wannabe from the suburbs. If you are trying to walk around the mall with your baby momma and kid at your side like you got a limp you are not hardcore. If you have a lowrider with a fartpipe on it you are not hardcore. If you call all your friends the N word when no black people are around you are not gangsta.

Finally if you are throwing gang signs on every pic you have on myspace you are not hardcore. If you have chrome spinning hubcabs on your rusty car you are not gangsta.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I've listened to some rap...I even like some of it.  The genuine stuff from the early days is actually pretty deep and has some good meaning attached to it.  most rap today is crap though, it has turned from a musical way of letting out frustration to a musical way of telling everyone how rich you are and how many women you have slept with.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

And you say this because you think most people think that society is actually getting better as time goes on?

To me its pretty much common sense that rap is negative and doesnt help society.  Kinda like asking if McDonalds food make people fat.  But its a free country and people can do whatever they want.  If people want to get fat, or wear pants down to there knees, or speak in ebonics or not get a job, they are free to do it.

Thats what I was goint to say almost word for word.   I listen to it sometimes (mostly becasue my hubby likes it) but its gotten harder and harder to stomach.   I cant think of more than five rap songs that Ive heard played on the radio in the last month that aren't total waste of radio space.

I don't think he lost cred from that though. Some would say  Run DMC doing a song with Areosmith would be losing cred, but that was the beginning of somthing new.

Well music in general don't help society. You can't expect a genre of music to help a society of people. You say that as if you EXPECT somthing from the rap community. I think that when it comes to a genre of music there are different artist, and when it comes down to artist it's a jugement of if YOU like it or if YOU don't. If you don't like the song. It's fine. If you don't like the artist, it's fine. If you don't like the genre, I'm pretty sure that's not true, becuase there is a song out there that you will like.

People look at rap as a sterotype yet it goes the same from everyone. Music can change the appearence of a society. I'm trying to say is whatever anyone says about rap that can be quite iggnorant, it can be knocked back to you with any other genre your into....except classical. That's a little hard.

Oh god.. I'm gunna get flamed for this one.

But hopefully not banned for racism.

So it's like this. I'm a white guy, and uh, because of this whole 'rap being the most popular music' and what-not, believe it or not it's making society look up to black people with respect. Which is a good thing I guess.

The only thing I don't like about this craze, is all the girls want a rapper. or even a just black guy for that matter. like, quite an increase in white females have recently started only being with black males.

I live in Gary, Indiana. A rather tough town. Check out the 1996 murder capitol of U.S.A., and it's Gary.

Believe me, when you live in the real streets, rap is life. Everyone loves rap. White guys are not "in", in a lot of parts of the world anymore.

Move to an area where people have jobs and make a good income, and you wont have to worry about hearing rap anymore.  Same for drugs, prostitution and as you already mentioned crime.

You know it really makes me wonder about people who listen to rap music, if they listen to it around their children?  Geez that seems like just sticking a porno on TV for your kids to watch would be the same thing.  In 15yrs from now when those kids get older wow if people think things are going to ... now with our youth, wait til then.

This thread has really given me a great idea thou.  At work a hiring manager has a little test that applicants need to take prior to being accepted for an interview.  It works pretty well but still alot of rift raft gets through.  Hiring is dificult because alot of it has to do with attitude and not just education.  Anyways I think asking a nice off the wall question like "what music you like" should keep out the fools pretty easily.  I think I am going to suggest that.  Probably something to the effect of "likes rap music" = minimum wage position, or reject completely.

Nothing worse then having hundreds of  applicants for one or two position and trying to filter through all of those resumes just to find one decent employee.  I wonder how effective that one question would actually be lol.   Seems like it would work perfectly.  I dont think I know one solid high end employee that likes rap music.  But then again I dont live in the ghetto either so who knows.  Either way it should at least up the percentages to find a good employee and save ton and tons of hours.

I'm not sure, but one thing or the other is true. One thing: most people that listen to rap seem to be kinda... Retarded is the only thing that comes to mind. Or the other: Something about rap music makes people act... Retarded. I think there should be some studies done on this.
