I am currently studying interactive media and for our current project are exploring online virtual communites. Because i dont have access to EVE Online if anyone could provide some basic information on the following points it would be greatly appreciated;

-The good and the bad points of the EVE Online community,

-How it is moderated

-The Rules

-How easy is it to 'dwell' in the world

Thanks again

    Wow ! That's a toughie.

Without wanting to sound like I'm kopping out, you really need to experience it to be able to formulate your own views. Otherwise, you will be wading through reams of posts from people waxing lyrical about various points.

    My advice ?

Download the 14 day free trial, get yourself in a player corp & conduct "interviews" in various channels.

You'll probably find you will get plenty of meat for your project this way...

Well community wise its good points are.....

Generally mature in attatude due to diffaculty in getting into the game.

A wide variety of nationalitys - Primarily european with some american russian and australien.

    Some community made radio stations.

Everyone is very helpfull to those who need help and are polite.

No LeeT talking [as in using numbers for letters like you get in Texting]

    The Bad points are......

You do get smack talkers talking **** in the local channels trying to provoke there war targets even tho they know any fighting would be unfare.

Thats all i can think off

Its moderated by a team of Senior GM;s and team's of volonteer workers from the community. They all live in a specilist Corperation [guild] called Polaris which is eve's second police force and have access to very Godly ships. They first of all patroll the chat channels and answer player petitions. They ahve to do it this way because eve is made up of 5,000 star systems with a gagilion planets asteroid belts moons stations gates etc.

Rule wise - No abbuse bad language and anything else anti-social in public chat channels. In private channels almost anything goes within reason. Policing in private channels i belive is primarily done by the channels creator.

Dwell'ing in the world of eve is very easy as unlike other fantasy based games you can essentially roleplay as a contempery person bear in mind everyone in eve is still human so just act like yourself with culterall adjustments for example if you are caldari - a race that is an capitalist one run by corperations not goverments then act like yourself exept you like buisnewss and money.

If you are Mimitar act like youself exept you hate the amarr race and yuo hate slavery. If you are amarr be yourself but devout religiously. And you respect your elders and own slaves. The Gilent are into partying with drugs prostitues etc also they are the only democracy in eve and they dont like the caldari.
