End of Closed Beta

PeZzyPeZzy Member UncommonPosts: 154

The closed beta is suppose to be ending soon. I have my hopes up for this game, but I wasn't going to buy and subscribe to AAA (to get into the beta) because it just didn't turn my wheels. Anyone know if the open beta or even the release date is soon?

What do you mean by closed beta? - Do you mean internal beta? If so this is the stage the game is at now. Which hopefully will be ending soon.

So no date for open beta, or release as yet. This is the year though - no reason for the game to slip to 2008.

no the closed beta, you can read about it on the official forum... that means that the game is coming soon....

Tabula Rasa's official message board is for beta only, not public so we can't read about it. Also, that video's been out since about E3 '05.

If you mean Closed as in Alpha Beta then its ending but otherwise the Closed Beta hasnt even started yet, will be a while before it comes out. ^^

Yes the closed beta will start in about a month.

So then depending on how long that runs for ? a few months or longer maybe ? then there will be the open beta.

Give it till rougly 2007 3/4 possibly even 4/4 if the beta testing runs over and itll be out.

The game looks pretty interesting to me, I just dont have faith in the company that created or will be running it. But who knows, maybe they will surprise me.

Its because of Richard Garriott, if it where not for him the entire game would have been killed instead of remade.

i read how they were close to canceling TR for a while before Ricard came aboard and reinvigorated the game. This can only be good. I agree also that NCsoft isnt exactly on good terms with me they are a bit shifty int heir practices. but given the history how TR is being develioped, and with Ricard on board, and the need for a good Scifi MMO in a sea of high fantasy MMO's i think this can only be a good shot in the arm for this genre.

hey! I've faith in Lord British! you should have it too!

Beside Ultima IX that was a bit washed out (and a victom of EA's nascent corporation whoredom), ALL his other games are absolutly top notch.

There was an interview with him (you can find the link on the home page) at some gaming site and woah! the things he said? And he was talking of the RIGHT NOW, not future features.

I mean, moral choices and quests that branch out and you cannot get both solutions? sounds great, especially that you will witness first person the results of your actions.

Dynamic world in which monsters will spawn at reasonable places (like their own barracks) and the swarm out to conquer more barracks? awesome!

Instances used for storytelling (a bit like Guild Wars i would think) to tell an interesting story and that can affect the public areas? incredible!

And then, we get end game with faction vs faction pvp maps with conquerable terrain and stuff? Omg!

Really, I had lost some faith in the game due to months with nothing to go with... and then I read that interview, realized he is talking of a game out this year, not in the 2020 and was hooked all again.

Richard was already on board when they were close to cancelling.

Tabula Rasa has been Garriot's since the first time I had read about it.  What you may be thinking of is how they completely scrapped their original ideas for TR about 2 years ago and took what they could from that and then built this new idea of a game around it.

Garriott, when he left EA was under a non competitive agreement.  Basically EA paid him a crap load of money to take 5 years off from game design etc.  As soon as that time was up he had started the basic ideas behind tabula rasa.  He had been in contact with other companies etc during his hiatus and as soon as it was legal for him to he hopped in bed with NCSoft and was given control over all the US side of the NC Soft business.  (NC Soft has a half dozen CEO's each in charge of their own region)

He very much enjoyed the original lineage and he was part of the localization of that for the US.  Everything that has come out of NCSoft in the US has had to have passed across Lord British's desk at somepoint or another.  That includes Guild Wars, Lineage 2, COH/COV, Auto Assault.  But, Tabula Rasa is his baby and has always been so.

True story. All of Origin (RIP) was pretty much damned by EA. All EA brought them was a huge dispersion and waste of talent. By 1990s standards, they were way ahead of their time.

back of the jewel case of Ultima 9.

Personally, I cant wait for TR to come out.  Ive been anticipating it for a very very long time.  However, I get the impression that its going to be another linear game  *shrugs*  too early to really know for sure.

That's a cool picture! Never seen "Ultima Online 2" on anything as official as actual game packaging.

I wouldn't part with either of those either.  They are historical.

Did you know that Ultima Online 2 was planned and then cancelled on at least three seperate occasions?

"Ultima Online 2, Take 3.  EA's Ultima Online 2 has been cancelled...for the third time.  You've probably never heard about this one - hell, nobody's heard of this one except us, seeing as how we were pitched a UO2 cover about 10 months back.  But now it's dead again, replaced with - you guessed it - another groanworthy UO expansion.  And this time, EA is adding elves to the game, despite the fact that elves don't actually exist in the Ultima continuity." - Computer Gaming World, September 2005
