most of us are  if its onyl from the movies (which did little justice to Conan)  (just my thought)    or from the book that robert e howard wrote

more people are then you would think

however if people are just lookign for  great game to play i says "come one come all" the more players that the game gets only increases the game  only one thing annoys me is the people who go on games  just to be rude and talk down to toher players

thats why i like the single player part  it will bring people into the game and by the time they get to full multiplayer they wont relaly have any questions

but yeah  jerks   dont play this game    all you gay people go and have fun with WoW

Well, no one wants a bunch of rude jerks running around when they're playing a game, but I don't think you'll even need to know who the hell "REH" is to enjoy this game (I can only assume he is the author of a Conan book ).  I want to play this game because it looks and sounds like its going to be great, not because I'm into the literature its based on.  I do, however, know and like the Conan movies (especially the one where Arnie bangs the weird chick in her hut, and when she gets too rough, he throws her in the fire - classic).

You must also keep in mind that many people read Howards books because of this game, just to get the story straight. I'm one of those...

That's just a really lame comment of you, I mean if I like how the game looks and want to play it, I shouldn't because I'm not

a fan of the Conan series? Whatever.

If you mean that all the people who havent read all the conan books and comics shud stay away from this game, then ur nuts. I think that everyone who wants to play shud play, no matter of how many books theyve read. But i also agree with needalife, the only people i dont want to see in this game is the one who will log on just to act like assholes. Everyone else are welcome ^^

Yeah, like those are the only two options.

Not everyone that isn't a big Conan fan is necessarily a 1337 d00d after 'teh phat lewtz'.  I personally have the 3-volume Del Rey REH Conan story collection, but I'd hardly consider myself a 'fan' of Conan.  I read them after learning about the game, and only so that I would understand the lore when actually playing the game.  I think REH was at best a mediocre writer, even within the genre of pulp fiction.  Don't get me wrong, I loved his dark historically rich take on fantasy that was so unlike the fluffy stuff that would come to define the genre.  Still he didn't have much talent as a writer,  and his anti-modernist, sexist, and racist ideological bent all but made him unreadable for me.

no, the movies not doing justice to Conan is not just your thought. anyone who has ever read Conan and liked it would agree with you, considering the Conan movies are not based any Conan stories.

Ok, i admit that didn't come out quite right. i'm not saying non-Conan or REH fans can't play, i just don't want the idiots to play this game.

To be honest, that is one waste of a post.

Many, many people are becoming inspired to read the books by Robert E. Howard. I myself picked up the chronicles book  not long over a year ago, and googled it later to discover this awesome game being developed. And now, after reading the books, watching the movies, and looking at many other factors of the Conan universe I am eagerly looking forward to this.

Look at your post, read it several times. Now answer me, what the hell did it achieve?

Every MMO community is going to have its fair share of ill grammar-ed, immature fools. The fact is, deal with them, move on, or at least look out for them in the border kingdoms.

And those that dont read Conan or the works of Howard, well hey, its their loss. I myself and much happier with the thought of playing with the knowledge and lore of it all.

First.. I'm really looking foreward to this game. I've played AO for years and know FC can pull it off. Second... I'm a big Howard fan. I've read all his works, and all the comics done later under the Conan licence. People don't know this, but Howard wasd a good freind of HP Lovecraft... the two shared many story ideas, plotlines, and a fanscination with the extradimentional occult. The world of Conan is rich with possibilities and is much more unrestricted than other licenses such as LOTR. There is also a torrent out there they has a whole package of Conan goodies to include the making of the first movie, and comics. Well worth the download.  One must also remember that these stories were written in the early part of the last century. Social mores and folkways have changed considerably. The sexism/ racism as eluded to in the stories is a direct reflection of the time, not the bad intent of Howard the writer.

In answer to your first question:  no.  In answer to your request:  no.  I mean seriously, just because I haven't read the books or any of the literature doesn't mean I'm gonna act like a jerk in the game.

"Grow up"?  I just made a silly little comment about something that I don't know too much about.  I thought it was a little funny that the only thing I could recall regarding  Conan, was a small part of a 20 year old movie.  You'd do well to take your own advice after the original post you made.

That being said, I have done a little research on Mr. Howard and his works.  Actually, a pretty good writer (some of the exerpts I read from his stories were great), but some of his real life views and ideas I gathered from reading some of the letters he wrote and written accounts of people who knew REH, make me like him less.  He was obviously a bit of a racist, and was seen as such by a lot of people.  Even in the 1930's when racism was much more commonplace.  Here's an example:  - Letter from Howard to Novelyne Price -  Howard tells Novelyne:  "I guess you know if a Negro is found on the streets after dark in Coleman, Santa Anna, and several other towns around here, they run him out of town.  Chances are they might tar and feather him."  When Novelyne responded negatively, Howard returned, "Let me tell you something, girl, that you don't seem to know.  Those people come from a different line.  They have different blood."

Howard also wrote this in reference to a trial in Honolulu where native Hawaiians were accused of rape:  "I know what would have happened to them in Texas.  I don't know if an Oriental smells any different than a nigger when he's roasting, but I'm willing to bet the aroma of scorching hide would have the same chastening effect on his surviving tribesmen."

Some of his stories suggest a bit of racism as well.  In the "Black Canaan", the white hero "Kirby" comes to a towns rescue by killing off all the black people that have been transformed into monsters.  These things absolutely portray Howard as being somewhat of a racist, to say the least.  However, I still think the game looks and sounds great, and I'll play it because of that.  I may even read some more of his works because he is a good writer.

One can like a song an not the artist politics, just as one can like books of a writer an not agree with with every thing they say . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Howard  is pretty good read specialy about howard an price,an has some links you might find intresting.

Sigh "Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." — Robert E. Howard, The Tower of the Elephant (1933) was my sig now its to long for the character count limit.its a quote that aplies to so many an so few understand sadly.err hmm edit its their but doesnt show in my profile .. odd but cool i still have it :)

To the op tho. Well considering its going to be xbox 360 as well as pc pretty much will open the doors to those who never read the books, and may have seen the movies or might have seen a comic.Wount hurt the game no more than the lord of the rings movie was hurt by people who seen it an never read the books.Neither will be/was 100% acurate.

Hey OP, sounds like you are the one with the leet dude attitude. Come on now, you should be happy. This game coming out has prompted me to start reading the books. I won't play an MMO because of the world in which it's based. I play an MMO that I think is fun to play first, story is secondary.

I own every book, every comic (even the lousey color ones), have been a Conan fan since 1979 (I was 9). Nothing compares to Conan in raw ownage. REHs books are much more raw and have the essence of the real Conan. REH's suicide was a great loss to the world, he came up with Kull the Conqueror, Red Sonja, Bran Mak Morn and Solomon Kane besides Conan and how many people know those names like any others.  Even Wolverine got his butt kicked in the "What if" issue where Wolverine went to the time of Conan (which was published by Marvel at the time). Wolverine is my #2 guy for ownage though, so it was a tough issue to read but satifying in the end. So yep I am a REH fanboy.

Damn I'm going to need to hunt down that issue.  So Conan beat him even with his adamantium skeleton and mutant healing?

Yeah to give you a gist:

Wolverin is on the moon base, right before Collosus hurls him at the Phoenix, a portal sends him back in time where he encounters a caravan being attacked by a huge lizzard. Wolverin easily dispatches the Lizzard and the caravan thanks him. However the leader of the caravan was a Stygian and was intrigued by Wolverines metals claws. He uses magic to produce a sword made of this "strange metal". Wolverin wanders into town and sees Red Sonja being attacked, as she is similiar in appearance to Jean Grey he jumps in to help and easily dispatches the brigands and disarms Red Sonja. They start talking/drinking together and Wolverine passes out. When he awakes Sonja has been taken by the followers of Set. Wolverine sets out to rescue her. In the meantime Conan (not King) has heard of Sonjas capture and as he owes her a favor at this point he goes to help her.  Wolverine slays the Stygian Wizard and as he raises his claws to cut her free (she is out cold) Conan comes in. What he sees is someone about to kill Sonja by an altar. Conan not being fond of magic attacks. Wolverines training kicks in and splits Conan's sword in half. Conan reachs for the blade the wizard made. He swings it, Wolverine fully expects it to break but quickly leanrs it is Adamantium and also magic to boot. They fight for awhile and as neither ones style is to talk it up they never realize they are both on the same side. As Conans fighting style is highly adaptive he learns Wolverines moves and all but beheads him. Leaving him for dead Conan scoops up Sonja and heads off into the desert with her. Wolverins healing factor brings him back and he relocates his neck bone. He uses his heightened senses to track down Conan, where he comes upon them in the desert where the portal is. A brief battle ensues and Conan is hurled into the portal. Wolverine is left behind in Conans time. Conan appears on the moon base and sees a group of people attacking what appears to be Red Sonja. He uses his new sword and slaws Collosus an with no one left to stop the Phoenix it goes bad for everyone in X-Mens time. Now fade back to Hyboria and you see Wolverine and Sonja riding off into the sunset where a brief story passage explains how Wolverine quickly becomes King of Aquilonia with Sonja as his queen. Now there is an undisputed King & Queen, lol.

This is briefly how it goes down, you can find What if Wolverine battled Conan the Barbarian? in What Ifs second series Issue #16

Actually the sword was made from a meteorite, and Conan snatched it off of the stand it was on and managed to parry his claws with it, he then broke it over wolverines spine/neck as he went for a headchop, and wolvie lay in a pool of his own blood, when he woke he was mostly animal because he brain damage (lack of blood/oxygen) hadn't healed yet and he was more animal than man...

If we are thinking of the same book where wolvie cuts off Conan's hand... thats how I remember it anyway... been a while :p

    Yes sweet book indeed!
