Expect SWG shutdown announcement at any time

Wildcat84Wildcat84 Member Posts: 2,304

The population is now way too low to even support the operating costs of the machines, bandwidth, CSR's,forums, and the 2-3 devs they have left much less the $10 mil license fee from LEC.

As I stated back in the summer, I think the shutdown is imminent.

The only way they have out is classic. Which I doubt they will do.

    Bah complete nonsense!!!

On my server, the population is past stretching point,  the game has never been more popular, I can even supply screenshots if you like to back it up.

I find it so annoying when people tear into it.I suggest you get your facts straight before you bring stupid accusations against a wonderful game.

World of Warcraft is a huge success and will continue to thrive for a long time to come despite what you claim

    oh sorry ,wrong forum

You mean SWG is still going?

Its a shame but i do really think the game is on its last legs, i no longer play but some friends told me the server i used to play on {corbantis} is dead, they moved to another server and all thats happening, is switching from a dead server to a busier server is making it look like one or two servers are busy but the truth is its just  player migration.

they may as well unplug the dead servers and offer free transfers but there such arseholes they wont consider that and will charge there customer for it ....  great company !

Don't Lie I have been at my friends house he logged in to Starsidder and it was dead empty about 23 people on line.

The game is dead on most servers a few have may have a couple of 100 on line but not many.

The game was doomed from the start :

    LA = crap

    SOE = crap

Koster left in 2003 = Brains behind the game left.

Go to player cities and hangouts that you knew to be bustling just months ago and you will think you are in "Night of the Comet Online".

How many servers do they have?

I would expect to see a server consolidation long before anyone considered shutdown. This is SOE, they can reconfigure the servers for other games (like vangaurd).

  • kanezfankanezfan Member UncommonPosts: 482

Almost positive it's 25 servers. If they were going to merge servers, I think they would have done it by now. The game is dead and they know it. They want it to die and not merging servers proves it. If you had many people to play with, to sell things to, you'd be less likely to quit than if you remained on your dead server. But dont worry, obraik will post soon, assuring us that there's plenty of population and that the game will thrive on, until at least 2371.

LoL. Now THAT is a funny statement. You are implying that SOE is altruistic, and that they dont WANT to make any more money off of this. It sure is funny to have someone put out the idea that SOE isnt in it for the money.

Where are your facts. You are completely just making stuff up now. I play on 3 different servers and the population is higher than it has been in in over a year.  There are alot of new players along with vets returning to the game.

You guys are funny  I understand the hatred for SOE and the game now hell I have been playing since Dec '03  I went through everything that everyone else did. I went away for awhile took a much needed break to let go of being pissed.

I mean really show me the facts instead of coming in here and just pulling something out of your arse just to say it.

Classic would not save this game. Classic was a good idea, but was never realized. I think what people miss about classic is the idea, the promise of a good game.

Oh dear Lord, not this post again.

Wildcat, you know I like and respect you tremendously but you make this post every three months and your prediction hasn't been correct yet.   I wish it were true - I really do.  As selfish as it is, I'd love to see the game die completely and unexpectedly and all the NGE-tards get a mouthfull-caliber taste of the $OE we both know and detest.  But you've been wrong about this very same thing before, and there is no substantive reason that I know of (guess I'll have to check on the "other" forum we're in to see if there is such) to believe this claim.  I visit MMORPG.com almost everyday looking for one piece of news - that $OE and/or LEC is pulling the plug on SWG: A Galaxy-sized Screwup.  Please give the deathknell predictions a rest until they're actually true.

    Kyleran,

Um yes I did see his post.  There is not one thing in there that is a fact not one.  He is simply throwing words out there. How does he know what the operating cost are?   And the 2-3 devs statement is a flat out lie. I know this because I do play everyday still and have seen at least 15-20 devs in game at different times.

Bullshit, I have played since beta and there was never 15 to 20 Devs in game at once.

If they had, then half the bugs may have been fixed.   The game is almost dead... do not make it sound like it's thriving please... we know better.

This game is NOT having a population increase hence the term "Not thriving" in fact... more people are leaving now more then ever.

    Hows the bugs?

    Hows the content?

Hows the new and exciting expansions coming along?

Hows the boards doing on SOEs own site?

Hows the crafting and decay doing?

    Hows the difficulty doing?

Like I said... this game is not thriving right now, it's pretty much just hanging on.  No way has has even 20 Devs played this thing this past week even.    I'm sorry if you think this game has a future or is even doing remotley well.     You can try to pass that on SOEs boards and you might get away with that there.   Here?  Not a chance... this is the NO BULLSHIT forum as well as another one that is out there.

Sorry, the game has not seen a increase since before the NGE was here... most of us have the common sense to see it and know it.

If you think SOE is making money hand over fist on this product then please contact me... I am selling swamp land in New Orleans CHEAP!!!...

OK  here we go.  Once again you have no idea what your talking about on some of this stuff. The population HAS seen an increase over the last couple of months. Again this is no where even remotely close to the population of old. So where do you get your facts that there has not been a population increase since NGE hit?

The bugs are actually being fixed faster than they ever have at any point in the past.

The content. Well no worse than any other MMO I have tried to replace the game with.

The new and exciting expansions. HMMM well I guess you got me here.

Crafting and decay. I will let you know in soon when the trader/crafting revamp comes out until then the verdict is still out on that.  Decay I could care less about was never a big fan anyway.

Diffuclty. Hmmmm  ok I conceide this one also as I agree the diffuclty could be improved.

Only time will tell my friend if the game has a future. But I can tell you that it's not shutting down this year at all.

LoL. Now THAT is a funny statement. You are implying that SOE is altruistic, and that they dont WANT to make any more money off of this. It sure is funny to have someone put out the idea that SOE isnt in it for the money. What has SOE done to make you think they are after money?  I see a poorly managed company that is openly hostile towards their customers.  SOE seems to have the attitude that they are doing a favor for people and are mad at us for not heaping praise upon them.  They certianly don't act like a company that wants to make money.

I was on during holidays on the free trial.

Lag - is bad. Nothing is going on, but its bad. The clusters were probably consolidated to an absolute minimum number of machines. When I say bad lag, I mean bad as during the Bastion raids. And no, there werent 500+ people in the same zone.

Gameplay - meh, its NGE. I cant say better or worse, but its NGE.

Bugs - same old, same old. No more no less.

Population - same old, same old. Same old names, same old players, same old guilds, same old. Population is only in hotspots (Eisley, restuss). The rest is an odd player here and there. POIs and scenic locations are empty. I ran around lots of servers. The only server worth mentioning still is of course Bria. The rest is painfully abandoned.

From what Ive seen, SWG is running on some spare machines they still have lying around. It can probably run on them for a while. Population is at rock bottom, at least it wont get lower. If they can keep it running like this, it can run forever.

Its currently in same state as DaOC or AO. Not DnL dead, but in its outgoing phase. You have the same die-hard fans playing, but thats it. This wont change, just like it doesnt change for other games. The only question about longevity here is whether these nominal costs are low enough to break even. If they are, the game can run for as long as needed. UO however is in healthy state for a game of its age.

PS. This post is missing apostrophes, whenever I hit the apostrophe key, firefox opens search bar - go figure.

The only way they have out is classic. Which I doubt they will do.

    This gets so old!

Did you see this post?  Unless he is totally lying (a possiblity I grant you) this might count as a "fact"

Lol, name 5 DEVS that are still with SWG. DEVs, not just red names, GMs or CSRs. You do know Helios is no longer with SWG right?

It is very silent over at the SWG site- no announcements.
