What makes RYL so good?

I downloaded it and loged on (was accepted for beta) and played a character.  It didnt seem all that fun to me.. The graphics were bad and the fighting was alittle too fast.  Unrealistically fast.  So I quit and went to play Lineage 2.  What is it that makes this so fun?

I mean i liked the game, the graphics were bad going towards ok... but theres something that keeps me playing, fast gameplay and that FPS style is cool, but it gets repetetive... just like what the other guy said in one of the posts in the other topics on this game, that to beat WoW or DAoC this game has to go through a major revolution!

PS> Some one has to get these developers and make them changer the names of all the things in this game, exept the weapons/ armour stuff. I mean Risk Your life is a horrible title for a game and calling their main fighting mode FPS mode is bad, i mean where did the First Person Shoter thing come into the pic, the game has the same controls as games like Maximo and thats a Action/ Adventure game....

aren't you supposed to be "testing" the game.. not seeing if it's fun..

why did you even sign up for the beta if you all you want is free gaming?

  • eddie7eddie7 Member Posts: 66

um we are testing the game to see if its fun or not

only thing i liked about this game is the skills...

The game has to many faults, its like diablo, but 3d, it will become no bigger than just another diablo-type game.

Yeah and its dominated by speed hackers already. The devs even knew before beta that this was case since they ask you not to you use speed hacks lol. Pidgeon english is annoying too.

No long term (beyond 2 months) appeal except maybe to asian market, since they seem to have a like and feel for tat like this.

the translation righ tnow was done by a machine so you can play befoer hte real translations gets finished.

THe graphcis are limited right now, notice oyu cant even get 800x600 yet or high resolution textures.

wait till open beta and a lot of your problems will all be mute,

The skills and duels were fun but killing things outside of town sucked and I didn't like the controls

lol. The game was "Unrealistically fast" so I went to play Lineage 2, full of dragons, elves, and magic. Why can't RYL be this realistic? Nah, just j/k.

I think it's an alright game.  It's early and hopefully we'll see lot's of good things happening soon.

I actually like being able to switch between the two modes.  And after learning a few of the keyboard commands i'm getting the hang of it.

I can deffinatly see the fighting getting boreing fast.

So far I have only soloed and have not joined a good party. Has anyone gotten into and stayed in a good party? I am just wondering if it is worthwhile to join parties in this game.

While I agree the controls take alittle getting use to, the game really isn't that bad.  Pretty much like all the rest, example KO, and like some here have said, the speed hackers are taking over and nothing is being done about it yet.  Its beta and they have alot of problems that need resolving yet.  We must realize we are here to test and hopefully they will start to make some changes with all of us reporting issues and bugs.

All of this takes time, and I'm sure they are making notes for future updates.  Although we have no idea on when the updates will take place, all in all its not bad.

Yeah, I've had a few run-ins with a couple of speed hackers. The worst was when I was soloing out in the middle of nowhere waiting for something to spawn when a hacker runs close to me. When a creature finally did spawn, I started to move towards it but he cut me off and quickly killed 3 in a row and headed out of there. I was about to say something nasty but realized there was no point, it wouldn't stop him and he would probably say something nasty in return. I guess there is not much you can do about it. image But it is in beta and the developers have enough to worry about besides for a small group of people who want to ruin the game.

    ok i must admit:

    - the graphix arent so good

    - no RPG at all! (crafting, aso.)

    - pure lvlgrind to get exp (they will add 200 quests later in closed beta. so i hope this gets better)

    - at the moment lots of speedhackers. this will change in open beta they said..

so why am i playing this?

because PvP is a HELL LOAD OF FUN!!

yeah it is! i NEVER had so much fun doing PvP. i have a lvl 39 sorc (no speedhack!) and i enjoy it like hell to go to the arena. i cant stop this. the controll and fighting fits PvP so perfect.

this game is all about RvR. there is only free PvP between human and demons. you have 5 different islands. one starting island on each side where you can easy exp till lvl 35. than you have the second islands where you have to go to lvl further. those islands are PvP area too. so always watch out for some enemies. then there is the main PvP island with really BIG and beautiful castles and forts. so basicly there is only PvP on the second island if one race have breached the defenses of the other o this main island (not in this beta stage now, cause there are too less players for this). and last but not least there is the arena. where its also FvF but without monsters. there are 3 statues who must be controlled and protected. you gain honor medals in doing it.

when you kill a player from the other realm you get fame. the more fame you have the better is your ranking on the list.

so for all those out there who love a GOOD PvP. not just those 'round based' fights you see on others MMORPG, but some serius and fun action, welcome to RyL !

I can accept a little bit of a level grind if it results in excellent PvP toward endgame.  This sounds like a decent game in that case.  Some games coming out in the future may have great PvP without the grind, however, and those may grab my interest before I'm able to try RYL.

I guess i never gave the game a chance.  I only played it for about 5 minutes and said it was stupid based on the graphics.  I played it about 2 weeks earlyer and i have been playing it ever sence.  This game is awesome i love how the fighting is.  Assassin and Mage are my favorite skills.  Right now im sportin a level 31 Assassin and a 27 Mage and a 16 Warrior and i love each one.  If you give the game a chance youll become addicted :).

Yep that's the thing, never play a game for like 5 minutes and say this game sucks. While yes, there are speed hackers at the moment making some maps and the arena unplayable, it's still a great game in my opinion. The whole FPS style of combat is a fresh concept, both fun and original. That is partly what keeps me going, and overall just the style of combat, skills, etc.. makes me enjoy the game. And the game will be even more fun when we get town warfare and house building, that's going to be even more fun. This game, if CIB plays the cards right, can do very well in the MMORPG market, but they have to play the cards right, show the people that they care, get rid of the hackers (which they said that they will put nprotect in open beta, so that's good), give us events like the King Of RYL (that boosted up player ratings, good call by CIB), this game could be a monster hit.

After seeing the devs responce to al the speed hackers (theres tons of them running rampant for weeks now) I feel this shows what the games going to be like in retail. Lazy developing and coding.  Can you imagine the likes of SOE letting their beta testers run riot speed hacking week after week>???? Nope.

Not even Ubisoft would do that.

The dev just get the game from either koren or taiwan..so they need to learn the programs for ryl and it really takes time...

For the speedhackers thingy, they know about it and they trying to use nprotect,...But they need to modify the nprotect and the ryl programs so they can match each other...

For me, i wil give them time for 1 to 2 months and see the result at that time....
