Firstly, I don't really listen to country music, and yes, i've played WoW.
I overheard a country music expert mentioning that Shania Twain's style is not true TRUE country, but also how it can't be denied that Shania Twain has launched country music back into popularity (this was some time ago) and so no matter what you think of her music or style, it's good for country music.
Basically, Shania Twain's country music is suited to n00bs, country music listening n00bs, as the hardcore country music fans wouldnt include her in their CD collections.
So while many here claim this forum is filled with MMORPG 'veterans' who wouldnt play warcraft (hence all the WOW bashing you see here, constantly) can it be argued that no matter what you think of WoW, it has really launched MMORPG's into the mainstream?
Does Wow to MMORPG's = Shania Twain to Country Music?
What do you think?
Ginetti.
...that don't impress me much...

If you mean mature and sexy, heck yeah!!!
Not a half bad analogy..and sort of beats the tired old McDonalds/Movie comparisons...
WoW... slick and polished.... just like Shanaia...but not so much depth.... sort of a pop version of gaming...

actually the first music I really listened to was backstreet boys and then I got into rock. not hanson though.
I agree with you, and I very much liked your well detailed and clear analogy.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
IMO a better comparison would be American Idol
Pretty good analogy, but would be better compared to "the Spice Girls" or "The New Kids on the Block" of music.
Shania Twain's music has far too much depth for WOW. Hehe.

LMAO thats classic i want that on a shirt.
Not all MMORPG 'veterans' hate the game and it isn't completely for noobs, although it is the most noob friendly game on the market. Many veterans are just waiting for something better to come out and some hardcore veterans are obsessed with the raiding or PvP and play it daily. The reason why you see so much WoW bashing is because it is so large and has so much market penetration.
Yes.
WoW caters to the casual gamer. Because of it's sales, everyone will try to imitate it. More complexx MMOs will be left by the wayside. Just like what Shania Twain has done to country. I like Shania, but by playing up the sexy, hot female singer a lot of good female singers who are not hot are getting passed over. Instead we'll get the sexy, hot chicks who can't sing to save their lives.

Heh, thanks. Believe it or not, that is something I just made up on the spur of the moment about two years ago along with the other 10 or so sayings you might see as my signature. I got that danasoft sign and chose to make up my own signs that were more fitting to mmos then what they offered. I think I thought up all 10 of them in like 3 minutes tops. Heh. Some are pretty goofy probably. But atleast they somewhat fit "mmorpg"s.
Anyhow, I haven't copyrighted any of them lol. Feel free to put any of them of anything you see fit. {pridefully raises shoulders... lol}

No.
Shania looks infinitely better (and much less cartoony) than other country singers, whereas WoW is mediocre graphics and detestably (George Lucas Jar-Jar Binksy?) cartoony.

WoW's tits aren't big enough.
Guild Wars is still an MMO.

My HARDCORE Story
Nah, more like the Beatles, actually. Fantastically popular but overrated, influential and imitated but still mostly vapid, shallow entertainment.
How do you kill that which has no life?
Yes I agree with this point completely.
However I did like the analogy of the OP. Even though I didnt agree with it.

Lineage 1 launch MMORPGs into the mainstream , long before WOW , just search CNN archives for the stories over Lineage 1 compared to the WoW stories they have done. Lineage 1 was what brought MMORPG from being a hobby to become a money maker, mind you it was far more popular in Korean than the US.
But Lineage 1 brought email support , the first ever MMORPG help desk system , the 14.99 model plan , and host of other turning points in the MMORPG world. They were one of the first ones , ever to offer full 3D version (though it never made it out of Korea nor is widely used anymore).
Lineage 1 owned Asian area for nearly 7 years without a major rival until the release of Lineage 2.
EQ1 is the father of bots and the secondary market .. according to history.
While the impact for WoW was felt greatly , it didnt create anything , it merely mimic what was current and added features that applied to "max fast crowd" that was booming during the time of its development.
I agree 100%
A lot of WoWs success is due to a few simple factors. Its easy to lean and manuver In. Its a stable well polished game. It will run on the average persons pc. Its easy to progress in. You can advance through the game with out devoting your life to it. Older gamers hate it because they see it as the killer of there fav game and cant understand why millions like it better than than there game not to mention a lot watched good chuncks of the populations of there fav game go to wow. Not to mention they went from being the majorty in the market to the minority. WoW is cashing in on the needs and wants of the average person. WoW is popular for much the same reasons consoles have gotten so popular. look at it from the average consumers point of view. Hmmm buy wow fun n pretty I wont need that expensive video card or upgrade my pc to play it or spend money on that new vid card or get a new pc so i can play this just released game damn i can spend 200 bucks get a new console and have those kind of graphix or maybe ill just get wow have some fun and keep what I got.
