Tibia

ok i dont need flaming or anything. You probly all know of this game and think its a peice of @#$# but i gave this game a chance finnaly and i loved it. The grafics arnt the best and theres no sound but this is the most fun ive had with an mmorpg other than FFXI. Just give this game a chance its a little confusing at the start but try it its only 40 mbs to download and it worth ever single mb and its free.

  • Cool I'm glad you liked it, however most people don't because it is from '97 and the death penalty is very harsh. It was my first mmorpg.

I hate the game. I truly find it to be one of the most boring MMORPGs ever created. Combat is just click in a menu & wait..thats all there is to it. You will spend half of your time fighting mobs. the other half? You will be LOOKING for mobs since the amount of mobs that are avaible in the world is VERY little. If you happen to find a mob wandering around, then 9 out of 10 times you can bet your right arm for it that you will be kill stealed. The death penalty is WAY to hard. You can litterly lose DAYS of work in one single death, and then I'm just talking about Exp. You will also lose your entire inventory.

The pvp system is just plain silly. The game is fully open pvp and has item looting. Before all you hardcore pvp fans jump up out of joy, there is a catch. If you PK to much, you will be BANNED. this is not one gm just being asshole, this actually part of the ruleset of the game. If you PK too much, you will be banned. I believe the absolute max for each month is 12 pk's, although you will also get banned if you go on a small killing spree. Not that you really want to PVP, since the same rules for PVP count for PVE. you will lose days of work if you get killed.

Don't be too happy about the free to play thing, Since there is a catch. To get the full gameworld & playerhousing (the houses are already set, sorry UO fans), you will have to pay the monthly fee. in fact, Unless you pay, you won't be able to learn all skills & spells for your class.

The community? lets just say that the World of Warcraft community is mature compared to Tibia's.

ok let them try it for themselves and dont talk bout the game when you havent played it and just read about it cause the people that wrote it havent tried it yet either they just started on the island saw the grafics and than quit

I did play it for quite a while actually.. I did get past rookgard ofcourse. Technicaly it was my first mmorpg, but the game is so horrible that, when asked, I mention Ragnarok Online as my first MMORPG, not Tibia.

I actually like the graphics of Tibia. Its a bit...cartoonish/comic style. It just has that special charm.

ok if you like runescape you will probly like this game

My impression of the game was more of an 8 bit Ultima online. It's kinda like what UO would have been like if it had been made for the NES.  Didn't play it that long, but I understand that there's a cell phone version of the game out now.

    The game

    is lame.

    It's a chore

    and a bore.

    I played it.

Two days later, I wondered why

    I was playing a game

Named after a bone below your kneecap.
  • Hmm it sounds like none of you got a character to at least level 20. Also you have the pvp system totally wrong, there are 3 types of servers.

There is a non-pvp server, this sucks really you just kill mobs and own houses, I really don't see the point in it.

The second type is a normal server. On a normal server the pvp is open. You can be attacked by anyone anytime, anywhere, with the exception of in a bank(depot) or a temple. The system then goes just like Lineage 2's system. Once you attack someone you are marked with a white skull flagged for pvp. Attacking someone with a white skull gives no penalty, except it marks you with a yellow skull which means that the other person may attack and kill you with no penalty. Similar to lineage 2 if you attack and kill 3 people unprovoked you go red (you get a red skull) If you die with a red skull you lose all your items upon death. And you if you constantly kill people (more than 6 who dont fight back in 1 day) you get banned. Really should you be fighting people who have no desire to fight back? I say no because they made a serve for people who want to do that.

The third type of server is the Pvp server. On a pvp server you may attack anyone, anywhere, at any time. (With the exception of temples, bank, and starting island) There is no penalty for attacking other than you are locked outside the temple for 5 minutes. If you kill someone with higher level than you, you get all the exp and items they drop.  You get all their items regardless of level.

The games death rule set is on normal server and nonpvp you may wear an Amulet to save all your items. Other than that every item you have has a 10% chance to drop with the exception of any bag you're are carrying. Your bags and anything in them drop no matter what on death. On a pvp server the rules are the same except you can't wear an item to prevent item loss.

To anyone flaming the game in its defense this is a game that is older than most of you, and after 9 almost 10 years it is still going strong and expanding.

To really understand what Tibia involves you need to play active for at least 3 months. Is perhaps the most addictive game out there, and that it's amazing considering is 2D and with no sound.

You can do tons of thing, allow RP a lot, but players choose not to. You need to have friends also to find it fun, since alone the things you can do are not many.

I'm playing almost for 4 years now, all this time on 1 server so I have plenty of friends from all over the world, boosted my english a lot too. The community used to be more mature but now mostly immature players are comming which is not so good.

Still, is not a crappy game, I've played many games and for example... Ragnarok Online is nothing compared to Tibia, graphics and sounds might be better but RO has not even teh 1/10 of fun and purpose of the game and character development compared to Tibia.

Only people that truly played Tibia and other games can understand this.

My advice is don't play since is way too addictive.

Tibia were my first mmorpg, I started to play it for around 2 and a half years ago.

Even though I have tried out other mmorpg's like: WoW, Ao, Flyff, silkroad, Rs, etc etc. And I still think tibia is the best game I've played.

For a start to reply on some questions: The death penalty!!, I think the death penalty is just perfect! Even if you die you might lose loads of playing time, but with this penalty you won't die so often, since people are afraid of pking.

The game is also a social game where you can spend time just standing next to a friends house and chat with people, very easy to get some nice friends if you are a friendly person. Also friends help friends out! which mean, if you got friends you won't get killed.....or well, you can get killed, but if you and your friend trust each other they will do what they can to help you.

I would see the game as a social/respect-friend game, the ones who know the right person got power!!!

Not like wow where you are the highest lvl on the server.....oh i forgot, as the rest of the 20 000 players on the server

And if someone is annoying you or something on wow, for example:

Little annoying 3 years old - Hello *** ****** rtard

You - drop dead (you want to kill the idiot, but you can't!!

Well in tibia, you won't see any of those examples since, you can kill them if you want to.

    //Ivan the faithful on libera

  • Thats a good point. On my main character I have died 4 times maybe? It makes death mean something. Unlike some games where you die at least 10 times everytime you log on and none of it matters.

Tibia is weird, either you lvoe it, or you hate it. You need to play it for a while before you decide, I would suggest atleast level 20.

In tibia, your friendships will mean a lot more to you than in other games. Your friends will be closer, you will offer each other protection, and hunt with each other.

The thing I like best with tibia, which i think is way better than WoW, is that nothing forces you to stay online in large bulks of time to be successfull, in WoW you will have to spend a large block in a time in instanes, while in tibia you can log in and hunt a little whenever you feel like doing it.

I have a lvl 30 character in tibia but I don't play it anymore... for now. It is a good game for me, only the graphics suck, but Cip Soft is employing 3d graphs designers now... you can see that info in it's page. Tibia is growing more and more, and it changes as it's players demand... I think it might become a great game in the future.

    I loved tibia.

Back in the days when there was only one server and it was completely free. It was also full loot and FFA.

I remember using taming runes on dragons and cyclops's with my mage, bringing them back to town and releasing them - oh the carnage! "DRAGON AT EAST GATE" "CYCLOPS AT POST OFFICE" "PVP AT TEMPLE"

Eventually joining the mercs and becoming a council member - man it was a blast, people would pay us money to hunt players down, those were the days! I recally hunting down ones of the DEV's characters at one point...boy was that a rush, especially as he dropped a dragon shield which i quickly scooped up! No bannage from him either, what a champ.

Excitement, adrenaline, fear.. none of this zero risk crap in modern day games. Dying meant something, living meant something.

    Great game!
  • ChekelesChekeles Member Posts: 4
Yeah, well I played it since....uhm... 2001? I remember that there were no skulls OMG so funny!!! And you could push afk people into holes and then loot the corpse when they'd been killed... You didn't need worms to fish... The map was only Main, Rookgaard, Edron and Darashia... aaaah I remember such good times and adventures... But now it has changed a lot... I accept that it has a lot more fun regarding new areas, new monsters, items and all that, but nothing compared to the old way to play... It's just...nostalgic.

Btw, Tibia was my first MMORPG... I played it with my friends, had nice times... I totally agree that it's a GREAT game, or at least it used to be... and might become a great game again.
  • GotsGots Member Posts: 10

I would probely quit tibia if it became 3d... I think it's alot more fun with 2d since you get a better community with other players.

I wouldn't have accepted a 3d tibia.... it would only destroy everything.

  • WoodskullWoodskull Member Posts: 10
Just... no. Tibia is entirely and fully worthless. It looks like crap, it plays like crap and the community is rude and immature. I think I played to level 30 or something, just because a couple of my classmates played it too, so I do know what I'm talking about.

It's not a better game than others to get friends in. What prevents you from hanging out in some city and talk in other games? Nothing. It's just that you guys happened to make a couple of friends in Tibia.

Just... just stay away from Tibia. It was my first MMO, and every other MMO I've played after that has been better!

    @Wood

Tibia was also my first mmo, but i've tried out loads of other games, such as wow, ao, flyff, silkroad, etc etc... but i still think tibia is more fun than all of the others.

and I didn't say that people can't talk in the cities in other games, it's just that...no one is talking...example: when i played wow, i entered orgrimmar, I saw loads of peoples the only ones who said anything were people who wanted to trade, and all of the other players were afk or wating for bg  they only think that you are wierd if you talk to someone... since: Why talk when you can go lvl or pvp?  ....
