If anyone remembers and has played the old Fallout series knows how awesome this game was and still is. I have been waiting for Fallout 3 for ages now since it was announced many years back. Yeah, I've read about it and I too have been waiting for too damn long for Fallout 3, but considering what an absolute mess Interplay is right now, it's hard to imagine them getting their act together long enough to get any traction on any Fallout title, let alone a project as immense and resource hungry as an MMO.  They should have sold the Fallout IP when they had their clearance sale on all their other properties.  At least that way, a Fallout MMO would stand a half-way decent chance of seeing the light of day.  Personally I would drop every MMO subscription I have to play Fallout MMO.  Peace.

This is old news, but pouring 75 mill $ in a MMO is just plain stupid. The best games arent necessarily the rich ones, but they're the ones that have been thought through properly.

A Fallout MMO has massive potential...the CRPG's were great :)

However, it would be a great tragedy if they simply reskinned WoW with a Fallout theme.

This is a scam to get investers.  Interplay is dead, there will be NO Fallout MMO by Interplay or anyone for that matter until Interplay sells the rights for it.

There has been a petition for involuntary bankruptcy filed by the company's creditors as seen on this site.

Would be sweet if this game actually came to life... too bad they didn't think of it a little earlier so we could have it up and running a little sooner.

I totally LOVED the Fallout-series. The scenarios, the game... The Scenery!  I just loved everything about that game.

So wonderfully tattered with their 50's-60's kinda feel in a blown away future. Trading with bottle caps, the awsome artwork and all those lovely trinkets with blinking lightbulbs and wires.

If they'd deliver such a game online I hope with all my heart that it will be a proper MMORPG and not just another grindfest a'la whack-everything-you-see kinda game.

But then again, if they do in fact are making it. We wont see anything from it in the next few years... that blows though.

If  Interplay is on it's last legs and an investor decides to front the cost of a project of this scale, the investor would make damn sure that there was a very sound model for making the game. The investor would also oversee all projects to ensure that Quality is of the utmost concern to Interplay.

This type of deal would make said investor practically a silent partner and I assume they would be very strict on how people spent their time when on the clock for this game.

Given that the proposed budget is 75 mil, it would seem that if it gets the go ahead the only roadblock would be weather or not they listen to their fanbase and create a game that captures the same spirit that the original fallout series did.

I am definately looking forward to what might come of this.

A dieing company using the Fallout name to try to recover from bankruptcy. Sad really.

If you read the proposals and all the official documentation on it, that's exactly what it sounds like. The company is folding, so they are looking for investors to pour 75mil into a Fallout MMO.

If they did put 75mil into a Fallout MMO I would get a hard on right now. But I seriously doubt they are.

Fallout is by far the best game ever made, I'm actually playing Fallout Tactics atm. I don't see why everyone said ti was bad, it's the same thing from another PoV.

I dont know which is harder, making a game like Fallout or going bankrupt after such a success? Surely there is something behind this and my lack of economics 101 keeps it hidden from me.

If this game goes gold, no other MMO could ever compete with it for my attention. But I doubt it will go gold.

Why can't they just sell the license to some good, not bankrupt company? I mean, imagine Blizzard or Bioware taking a crack at it. That would be bliss.

    Well said.

I still think BioWare would do a LOT better with a medieval-fantasy setting, FR if possible, anything else if not.  But Fallout could work.

75 millions?  Err...that is a LOT of money.  Didn't CoH was developped for about 1 million?  With 75 millions, a campagny could make MANY games such as WoW...much better than 1 game.

BioWare has the strongest design team, putting too much pressions on them wouldn't be that wise...meh, yes giving them the tools is good, giving them the freedom is good also, they know what they do.  But...the pressure?  I dunno, some is good, but 75 millions sound like a LOT of pressure to me, maybe too much.  Anyway, if it come later as costing that, sure, but from the start?

Not to forget, MMOs are usually developped by a crew that grow with time, rarely with a full blown crew from the start...because half of them are cancelled for technical issues.  I am sure BioWare can handle the tech issues however.

    75 millions....*start dreaming*

We covered this about a month ago when the SEC filing was linked.  The game budget is not $75 million. They are trying to raise $75million but only $35 million is for game development.  Most of the remainder is probably going to be used to pay off the ~$30 million Interplay owes its creditors.  The rest will probably just go in the bank as insurance against cost overruns and other projects.

Fallout is an excellent IP for an MMO, certainly more well suited than Star Trek IMHO.  Sadly, though, Interplay just doesn't have the chops to get it done.  Maybe they never did have.  How do you fail as a company so spectacularly when you had two money-making machines like Fallout and the Star Trek license?  I think they even had Lord of the Rings at one point.  Bad management is really the only answer I can think of.  These clowns think they can ride the MMO wave to solvency by getting some witless Euro investment firms to bankroll them.  They are a very poor risk judging from their track record.  Best option if they want to stay in business is partner and co-produce with a developer and publisher with some experience in this area.  Other people than I would know better who that partner should be.

Personally, I'd like to see somebody like Lionhead take a shot.  I know they've never done an MMO to my knowledge but Molyneux is a risk-taker and famous for thinking outside the box.  And since they got in bed with Microsoft their cash-on-hand and access to the kind of infrastructure needed to make an MMO fly is all there.
