A long time ago, while I was trapped in the wretched coal mine known as CBSNews.com, I wrote this piece. In a nutshell, Sony Online Entertainment made drastic changes to the core of their MMO 'Star Wars Galaxies' and as a result started hemorrhaging subscribers.
After something of a showdown/interview with SOE President John Smedly, in which he refused to admit that his company ever released an 'incomplete' game and also would not define 'incomplete', Smedly promised that attempts were being made to repair the game and please the players. Balance would be restored to 'Galaxies.' That is what he told me, and that is what I wrote.
But the other day, emails started pouring in again from disgruntled 'Galaxies' players. They were all similar in tone, but this was the kicker:
A lot of people still have a bad taste in their mouths from SOE as a result of this.
It has been recently posted on the SOE SWG forums that they are now soliciting stories for a CBS news article on online gaming.
As one of the players that was, and still is, extremely disappointed in SOE's handling of this game, I would hope that you would provide those with dissenting views an opportunity to comment as well.
Thanks,
Joseph
Not only has SOE, apparently, failed to improve the game that they messed up, but they're also claiming to be working in tandem with CBS. Unless my former coworkers at the CBSNews.com website are lying, this is completely and totally untrue.
I'm starting to wonder if being a pathological liar is a prerequisite for employment at SOE.
If it's true that they are lying, then I think it would be prudent and in everyone's best interest if CBSnews.com made an official statement, blowing the SWG devs out of the water. Let Smed or Helios try to talk there way out of that one.
I have always wanted to see SOE held accountible for something... This might as well be it..
Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars.. Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons... Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.
And not one line of this should suprise any of you lol.
I saw it and then thought.... well this is article 10372 about how bad this is...lol

lol
I think this needs clarifying a little:
Tell me lies is from Tango in the Night album. Rumours was 10 years ealier and a classic, whereas Tango had a lot of dodgy songs on it.The original line up with Peter Green was incredible, so in the spirit of SW analogies
Pre-CU - Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green
CU - Rumours
NGE - "Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies...."
Am i reading this article correctly, soe are looking for people to comment on there online game swg, if so there paying cbs and you can expect complete fanbois bull, and other miss leading carrots to try to tempt some poor fool with there money.
one thing you can be sure of all the views in that article will be edited to suit soe's view of the game, they may as well get the devs to write the article, why won't that game just die.

SOE was asking for people to write a post about some in-game experience, and they claimed that they were working with CBS to come up with an article about it. This guy's saying that CBS is not working them. And that means, surprise!, SOE was lying to try and temporarily distract their pissed off customers.
A new article by William Vitka was released. It talks about the recent rumors suggesting that SOE believes there's a secret society that's out to destroy Star Wars Galaxies. It also gives John Smedley's response.

How can it be a secret society when he knows about it?

They want input from their players. You mean, they want "positive" input from their players. Geez, when will they just give up and admit that SWG sleeps with the fishes. Pull the plug already. The more they wiggle around, the tighter the noose gets. Cut the carcass down already.
However, I do admit that seeing them blunder about is kind of entertaining. I guess this big CBS thing is the brainstorm of Smed and his cronies' next attempt at breathing more life into SWG. It'll only attrack attention to the problems, however.

About a year ago you did an article on SWG and the changes that they had made.
