How will death work in this game?

Will there be an exp penalty? Item loss, or nothing at all like WoW? Just curious if anyone knows thanks.

in the AoC forum unofficial not Dev guy (but still very helpful) created FAQ:

    What about death and resurrection?

The developers are still keeping the details hidden, probably because they are still toying with ideas. The tidbits they have let out do indicate a couple of things, no permadeath, no full looting, there will be penalties to both stats and items for dying, but nothing permanent. As to onsite resurrection, it has yet to be confirmed or denied.

Not sure if anything has been updated since then... kinda old news

    Hope that helps.

Err, thanks for the publicity, but I'm no dev, and in spite of the game's officials having been kind enough to sticky the "commonly asked questions" thread I created over on those forums as Heronblade, its not an official faq.

That does remind me, I need to update that thing again

In any case, whats there is still close, upon death you ressurect at a temple or other spawn point with temporary stat loss and XP loss, unless you screw up with the soul corruption system, in which case you have to fight your way out of Hell first.

In PvP, the only thing that can be looted from corpses is blood money, a form of currency used to buy black market items.

Item degredation and onsite ressurection to avoid going back to a respawn point still haven't been confirmed or denied.

They confirmed that you will goto nearest temple upon dying when during a siege battle. Its up in the boardlands forum right now. (sorta sucks for those defending the keep, if they can't get back in)

The stat rez will prob only be a few min like in other funcom games. Its usually about 5 min or so. No permanent probs though from dying.

-Thank you for the responce seems very interesting. The only part I didn't like is that the exp loss/stat loss will only be temporarly. Could you please allaborate on how long this would exactly last for? I was hoping for a bit harsher penalties like permanent exp loss. Regardless this mmo definitly has me interested.

Thats kind of a disapointment to me. I think if they are aiming towards a mature crowd they should put a bit harsher death penalty in (Atleast perm exp loss) if we die in a group from a bad pull its gunna be like WoW.. just run back no fear of death. That doesn't really help a community, I know this game will be mostly built upon pvp but death should still sting in pve imo.

Ok, in Funcom's last MMORPG, they had a similar system. The way it was implemented there, stats went down by about 75%, rendering all but the most basic functions useless (pets no longer obey your commands unless you summon a very low level version of the ones you normally use, equipment gives only a tiny percentage of their normal bonuses, etc.). The stats slowly went back up over a period of three or four minutes (can't quite recall which for some reason), not that long, but still long enough that its a pain in the butt when you need to get back out on the field quickly.

Unless you had "saved" a portion of it by visiting an insurance terminal and paying a fee, all experience since the last level is lost upon death. The amount you lost goes into a pool. From then on, you would gain XP at a very slightly increased rate untill that pool is used up. Lets say you spent an hour doing missions for xp, then screw up and die just before getting a level. It might take four hours of further Xping before all the XP you earned in the last five hours of play is yours again.

If you had saved, any XP gained afterwards is lost, and if you gain a level since saving, all of it is lost on death unless you visit a terminal again.

Note: While I would not be surprised if they have a modified version of the above in AoC, at the moment it would be pure conjecture to assume so. While they are related in some ways, Anarchy Online is still a comepletely different game.
